Your First and Last

Mark had one life left and he would still protect Donghyuck with his life. And that was always the price, his life.

The pair was on a date in the park under a giant sakura tree. What they both didn't know is that it would be their last.

"Ice cream!" Mark cheered seeing a vendor nearby.

Donghyuck turned to him a teasing smile on his face. "You don't need anymore ice cream Markie. You'll get fat."

Mark laughed before sticking his tongue out playfully in rebellion. Donghyuck let out a laugh before Mark dragged him over to the ice cream stand.

"What would you two lovebirds like?" The woman asked the duo.

Scarlet painted across Mark's face as Donghyuck replied for them. "Two cookies and cream please."

The woman winked, "Coming right up." She went to hunt down the ice cream flavour as Donghyuck turned to Mark.

His face was still scarlet in embarrassment. "Awww. Is Markie embarrassed." Donghyuck cooed at the older boy. This caused Mark's face to flush even more, only Donghyuck's words having the effect on Mark that it did.

"Y-y-yah." Mark stuttered flustered.

"It's okay Markie~"

"Donghyuck." Mark whined at the younger boy, lightly swatting him on the arm. Donghyuck clutched his arm and staggered back dramatically. Mark let out a small snort before cracking into a wide smile.

The lady cleared her throat smiling in amusement. She handed the two cones to the boys. They accepted them gratefully, Mark moving to take out his wallet before she said, "It's on me. You guys remind me of my girlfriend. It's cute." She smiled.

The pair bowed slightly before walking off to beneath the sakura tree again.

They immediately started a challenge to see who could eat the cold treat faster.

Naturally brain freezes occured on both sides causing laughter to erupt from the two boys. Easy smiles gracing their lips.

"You've got some ice cream on your lip." Donghyuck pointed out.

Mark whined, "Aw man, seriously." He dragged a hand across his mouth before facing Donghyuck again. "Did I get it?"

"Nope." Before Mark could ask, Donghyuck gave Mark a peck on the lips. "I got it." Donghyuck winked as Mark froze, pink dusting his cheeks.

Taking the opportunity, Donghyuck quickly finished his ice cream and cheered, "I win!"

Mark groaned playfully as he finished up his own ice cream cone, before kissing Donghyuck back. This time Donghyuck being flustered. Mark found the sight really adorable.

Mark wrapped his arm around Donghyuck's torso leaning into him. He sighed contently enjoying the moment.

"Kitty!" Donghyuck exclaimed disturbing Mark's arm. A brown tabby cat was licking it's paw. Mark chuckled at Donghyuck's cuteness. Donghyuck ran over to the small animal and pet it, cooing at it every so often.

The small animal purring against Donghyuck's touch. Mark smiled at them before moving over to join them. The tabby rubbed its body against Mark's leg, purring softly.

It suddenly jumped up and started padding into the street. A car coming full speed at it. "Kitty!"

The boy stood up. "I'll save it!" He said determinedly.

"MARK!"

A sickening screech and thud was heard, a boy thrown to the ground.

The other scrambled over, tears welling in their eyes. "no. No. nO. NO." Tears spilt out of his eyes dropping onto the fallen boy's face.

"It was supposed to be me. It's always been me." Sobs ripping out of their throat. "Dammit, I was supposed to die."

Donghyuck reached for Mark's face, blood coating his arm the red liquid dripping onto the ground. The smile Mark loved so so much was plastered on his face.

"It's alright." He murmured weakly. "You're still alive. That's what counts." Pedestrians swarming them calling an ambulance. But the couple knew it would already be too late for him. "You don't need to protect me anymore."

Mark's teary eyes widened a fraction, how did he know.

"Just promise me," Donghyuck let out a rattling cough. "You won't kill yourself like you did last time. You deserve an amazing life Mark."

"But-t." Mark stumbled over his words crying.

"Promise me." Donghyuck demanded, his voice straining.

Mark hiccuped, "I promise." His eyes cried an ocean as his voice and heart cracked in agony. He deserved to die- Donghyuck was so so much important than him.

Why did this have to happen?

Tears dripped from the face of one of them, a smile painted on the face of the other.

"I love you."

Because after all, they say a sun always shines brightest before it dies.
