Chapter 3

Yeosang's POV

I awoken to a knock on the door and I yawned. Mum and dad never really wake me up by knocking on my door, they yell at me and shake me awake usually. Maybe they've finally changed their mind about me, maybe they're going to be nice. I opened my eyes and sat up quickly, freezing when I realised I wasn't in my room. I whimpered and glance around, not understanding what was going on. There was a sudden bang on the door and I screamed, tears pooling in my eyes as I didn't know what was going on. It took me a few more seconds to remember what was going on but by that time, the door was swung open and Joonwon rushed in. I jumped and huddled into the corner, still not sure that they wouldn't do something to me. To my surprise though, he quickly knelt down by the end of my bed, not coming closer or trying to touch me.

"Hey kid, you ok. What's wrong," he asked quickly. I sniffled and wiped my eyes quickly to get rid of the few tears that fell.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be a hassle. I just forgot what happened and it scared me a little," I said quietly, looking down at the bedsheets.

"Ah that's fine, it's no bother. I just heard you whimper and it worried me so I came in," he said. I bit my lip nervously and nodded.

"So, are you ready for today," he asked me. I glanced up at him, wondering if I should be honest. There's a lot that I can say but I've never really had someone to talk to.

"Um, do you want me to be honest," I asked slowly.

"Of course, I'm here to listen and try and make this transition as smooth as possible," he told me.

"I uh, I don't think I've really fully processed what's happened to be honest," I said honestly, making him nod in reply.

"That's understandable. You've been through a lot kid," he said.

"Do you know these people, the ones I'm going to meet," I asked him.

"Yeah, they're lovely. The leader, Hongjoong, is a great man and the other's are just as lovely," he said. That's a little reassuring I guess, but it still doesn't change the fact that I don't really want to meet anyone.

"Do I have to meet them today," I asked, fiddling with my blanket.

"They're all waiting and excited to meet you kid, you'll do great," he encouraged.

"What if they don't like me? I don't know how to make people like me, I don't really know how to make friends," I admitted. God, I feel so stupid right now.

"You'll be fine kid, the boys are great. Even if you don't talk or are awkward to begin with, they'll still be your friend," he told me.

"I'll give you 10 minutes to collect yourself and then I'll come back to you alright," he said. I nodded and watched as he left the room, closing the door behind himself.

The next 10 minutes was spent with me panicking about how many people I was going to meet. I've already met like 8 people in the past 24 hours, 8 more than I've met in the past 7 years. I really don't want to meet so many more people. Once the 10 minutes were up, Joonwon walked back in and paused when he realised I hasn't moved.

"Would you like me to ask if you can start off perhaps just meeting the two eldest, rather than everyone at once," he asked softly.

"Yes please," I replied immediately. Meeting two people is much better than meeting like 8. He chuckled before walking off and closing the door once again. I sighed and leaned back against the wall, running my gloved hand through my hair. I paused and looked at my hand, sighing and pulling my gloves off. I've got some time and no one will be coming in here until Joonwon comes back, so I can take off the gloves. My hands were a little sweaty, so I wiped them off on the sheets. It may have been because it was hot, or it may have been because I was that nervous. I just sat there for a while, not really noticing how much time had past until there was knock on my door. Joonwon was finally back.

"Come in," I said as I picked up my gloves to put them back up. The door opened and I expected to see Joonwon walking in but to my shock, it was a small man, close to my age and sporting gentle orange hair. I jumped in fright, my gloves slipping from my grip and onto the floor, making me panic even more.

"STOP DON'T COME IN," I yelled quickly.

"Please stay back, I don't want to hurt you," I panicked. I quickly grabbed my gloves and tried to put them on, but my hands were trembling and I couldn't put them on. My breathing picked up and I glanced over at the person still standing in the doorway.

"It's ok. I won't be coming any closer until you've got your gloves back on, take all the time you need," he said softly. I watched him anxiously for a few seconds as he didn't move, understanding he meant what he said. I took a deep breath to calm down a little before managing to get the gloves on my hands, relaxing in relief. I looked back over at the orange-head in the doorway, shuffling anxiously on the edge of the bed.

"I'm sorry to barge in like that, I probably should've let you know I was coming in. They said you might be nervous, so I should've thought about that," he said. They said? Wait, is he one of the people I'm supposed to meet?

"Oh, um, I'm sorry," I said nervously. I can't seem too uptight and rude right now, this might be someone I'm supposed to be living with from now on.

"Don't be. Do you mind if I come in. I'll be sitting on that chair over there and I won't go near you," he said. I looked over to the table with chairs that he was pointing at, seeing it was close but not too close.

"Ok," I said quietly. His eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head.

"Don't just say ok to please me. You have the choice to say no, I won't mind at all ok. If you're too unsure right now, don't worry about it. I won't take it personally," he said. I blinked in surprise. Usually when I say ok even if I'm unsure, everyone will take it as a yes, but he didn't. For some reason it made me more reassured to trust him.

"No, you can come in, that's fine. Just please don't come close to me," I said with a nod.

"Alright, but one last thing before I come in. I'm not alone, there's someone else with me. He's my best friend and he's really nice, he'll sit with me, I promise," he said. Ok, so two people. Joonwon did say that I would meet two people, I just didn't realise they'd come here. But I need to meet them to make sure I have somewhere to stay.

"Ok, same rules apply though please," I replied.

"Of course," he said, flashing me a smile. I nodded and moved so I was sitting cross-legged on my bed, facing the chairs. The door open wider and the small orange-head walked in, along with a taller guy, with sharp facial features and light brown hair. They both went over and sat on the chairs, facing me and giving me gentle smiles. I mean they look nice but you never judge a book by it's cover.

"I should probably introduce myself. I'm Kim Hongjoong, I'm the leader of Section ATZ. I'm the person you go to if you have any problems and the person that talks the most with the workers," orange-head said.

"And I'm Park Seonghwa. I'm the eldest and someone you can go to whenever you need some advice or help," brown-hair said. Hongjoong giggled at that and Seonghwa scoffed, rolling his eyes and intriguing me slightly. What's so funny.

"Hwa is an absolute mum. He's not lying when he says he will help give you advice. He'll also clean your room, cook you food if you need and even make you warm milk to get to bed," Hongjoong said with a grin.

"Oh my god, that was one time. It was the only thing that got Sannie to go to bed you ass," Seonghwa said, slapping the back of Hongjoong's head. To everyone's surprise, including mine, a giggle slipped from my lips. They immediately looked over at me and smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry, we got a little carried away there, but yeah, you get what we mean," Hongjoong said.

"Warm milk helps you sleep," I questioned, not understanding.

"Yeah, it makes you sleepier," Seonghwa nodded.

"I didn't know that. My mum always said to just shut up and you'd eventually go to sleep," I shrugged.

"Well that's not what I say. If you ever need it, I will be more than happy to make it for you. And Hongjoong, a word from you and I will stab you with a pen, and just not help you afterwards," Seonghwa said. I had notice Hongjoong go to open his mouth but he shut it immediately after Seonghwa's words.

"Thank you Seonghwa-ssi," I said.

"Hyung is fine Yeosang, for both of us," Hongjoong said. I froze at his words, my eyes widening slightly. I've never actually had a Hyung before.

"Um, you guys have powers, right? What are they," I asked. Ok, so I panicked slightly and asked the first question that popped into my head.

"Well I have telekinesis, so I can move things with my mind," Hongjoong says. Why couldn't I get a power like that?

"That's cool," I said quietly. He grinned mischievously and he his eyes tinkled slightly before he leaned back and rested his head on his hand. I was confused at first but then I watched as a pack of chips from the bench floated in the air and over to me. I have never seen anyone else with powers before.

"Wow, oh my god, that's so cool," I said, grabbing the packet from the air. I paused as I looked at it and I thought back to what Hongjoong did. It was harmless and cool. Why was I the one that got the power that hurt everyone? Why was it me? What did I do wrong? I didn't want to cry, not in front of those two but before I could stop myself, the tears begun to fall down my face.

"Oh no. No, I didn't mean to make you cry, please don't cry," Hongjoong said immediately. I shook my head and looked away quickly, not wanting them to see as I begun to sob.

"No, Joong don't. Sit back down." I was confused by Seonghwa's words, considering I couldn't see what was happening.

"He needs a hug Hwa," Hongjoong said, almost seeming like he was whining. I sniffled and turned my head to see Hongjoong standing up, looking at Seonghwa as the elder had their hands locked and fingers linked.

"I know but remember his boundaries ok. We can't touch him, so just sit down and wait," Seonghwa said softly. I furrowed my eyebrows as Hongjoong nodded and listened, sitting back down. They both looked over at me, their eyes holding concern. It made me feel better, knowing they wanted to look after me but still stuck to what I asked for.

"You ok? I really didn't mean to make you cry," Hongjoong said quickly.

"I know. I just thought about how shit an ability I got, compared to some. Mine hurts people and yours is just cool and fun," I said. I was confused when Hongjoong chuckled humourlessly and Seonghwa frowned, slipping his hand into Hongjoong's and clearly squeezing it.

"Yeosang, let me tell you the reason why I'm in this facility," Hongjoong said slowly. Was he sent here as well? But why?

"When I was 12 years old, I lost control of my abilities and sent a bus full of kids crashing into a building. By some sort of miracle no one died but many people were injured. If there wasn't a miracle, 31 people would have died," Hongjoong explained. Holy shit. I did not expect that.

"The only reason I can do what I just did, is because I willingly got admitted and they helped me learn how to control my abilities. It took a while, but it helped and I know we can help figure something out for you. Don't be so down alright," he said firmly. I mean I do feel really bad and I'm glad he's able to control it now but our abilities are completely different. I can't just turn mine off, I'm stuck with hurting everyone. I appreciate the effort though.

"So Seonghwa, Hyung. What's your power and you know, why did you come here," I asked nervously. Am I allowed to ask why they're here, or should I have waited until he decided to tell me.

"I can heal wounds, although not very big ones anymore," Seonghwa told me. Ah, so that's what his threat earlier was about. But what does he mean anymore? I glanced over at Hongjoong, noting that he looked pissed. Since I first met these guys, it's clear to see that they care a lot about each other and would stand up for each other in an instant. Seonghwa chuckled and ruffled Hongjoong's hair before looking back at me with a small smile.

"I know you have some questions but you're too nice to ask so I'll just tell you. After my parents found out about my abilities, they used me for money. I was healing multiple peoples wounds a day and due to that, it weakened my abilities and now I can't use it as well and when I do, it makes me really tired sometimes," Seonghwa explained. Parents can be really shit sometimes.

"I'm sorry they used you," I said quietly.

"Eh, it's fine. The minute I couldn't do it anymore, they sold me here and I later got to meet some of the closest friends I could ever have," he said. They sold him? Damn, that might be worse than me.

"So, does everyone here have messed up backstories," I asked slowly, making the other two chuckle.

"It varies from person to person. One may be worse and other's better but your past isn't what defines you," Hongjoong said. You know, I actually like these guys, they're nice.

"Can you guys tell me a little bit about the other's," I asked, biting my lip slightly.

"Of course. Our youngest member is Jongho. He's a bit quieter with new people and takes a little bit to warm up to people but once he does, he's a good friend and great to talk to," Seonghwa said. Ok, Jongho maknae who is a bit shy and takes a little to warm up to people. Like me I guess so that's nice.

"Yunho is slightly older than you and he's our resident puppy. He's tall and may seem intimidating but he's a total softie and he's like our big energizing golden retriever," Seonghwa told me. Yunho, tall but not intimidating, a little gentle.

"Mingi is younger than you but only by a little bit. He's our third youngest and he's a bit like Yunho. He's tall but he's not very intimidating. He can be a bit loud sometimes but if you tell him it's too much, he will make sure to tone it down," Hongjoong said. At least he will tone it down a little bit if it's a bit much.

"Our resident fake maknae is San. He's adorable and cheerful. He can act a little bit childlike and we have to ask that even if you don't like that, please do not make fun of him. You can just leave the room but if you are rude about some of the stuff he does, we will have to ask that be moved. We're a family and we look after each other. He loves to cuddle and hug people randomly but he won't do that to you as we know you don't like that," Seonghwa said. Ok, so he's the one everyone is protective over, don't mess that up. It seems like there might be some issue there, some reason why they all might act like that.

"It's not my place to judge, I'm not going to berate someone for doing something they're used to," I shrugged.

"I know, but we still had to ask," Hongjoong said gently.

"Now the last one is our crazy one. Wooyoung is very cheerful and energetic and can be a bit shameless sometimes but you'll get used to it. He likes to joke around and might use his abilities to annoy you but it's nothing bad. If he does anything to annoy you, just let us know and we'll talk to him," Hongjoong said. Great, there's always at least one crazy one. Overall though, they don't seem too bad, as long as they listen if I tell them something is making me uncomfortable.

"They um, seem nice," I said quietly with a small nod.

"They are. Would you like to come meet them? We need to get you settled into your room today but if you don't want to meet the other's we can make sure they don't approach you at all," Seonghwa assure me. I thought about the offer for a little bit, questioning whether I was up to meeting more people.

"I'd rather not have to talk to more people today," I said nervously, hoping they wouldn't be too annoyed.

"That's ok, we will let them know not to hassle you. One of us will go ahead to talk to them and the other will bring you over. Who do you feel more comfortable staying with," Seonghwa asked. I mean I've only known them for like 20 minutes and they both seem nice but I wouldn't really have a very

"I don't know, either," I shrugged. They glanced at each other for a few seconds before nodding and Seonghwa stood up. I shuffled warily but he just gave me a small bow before leaving the room.

"Hwa will go ahead and talk to the other's and I'll take you there. Do you have much to pack up," he asked me.

"I don't have anything, just my gloves," I said, holding up my hands to show the gloves.

"You didn't bring anything else," he asked me.

"Didn't have much and didn't really get a chance to grab anything anyway," I shrugged.

"Oh, ok. Well we'll make sure to get you lot's of things ok, so you can decorate your if you want," he said firmly. It does sound pretty nice, I hope they can do that. I gave him a small smile and he grinned, standing up.

"Why don't we get going then," he asked, as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He moved towards the doorway and I cautiously stood up, following him out of the room. He waited for me outside and I cautiously closed the door, walking a little closer. If he noticed me creep closer to the wall to put some distance between the two of us, he never said anything about it.

"We're down this way, come on," he said, giving me a small smile. I followed him down what seemed to be endless halls until we finally stopped outside a door. How we didn't get lost, I have no idea.

"Here we are. Section ATZ and your new home, are you ready," Hongjoong asked as we paused outside.

"No, not at all," I said, biting my lip.

"You'll be fine Yeosang. I'll just take you to your room and you can get settled in," he said encouragingly. Ok, that should be fine, no worries. I nodded and he grinned, opening the door as we walked inside. We both froze when we got inside.

"YOU CHEATED, YOU USED YOUR POWERS."

"WE NEVER SAID WE COULDN'T."

"THAT'S NO FAIR."

"JUST BECAUSE YOUR POWERS ARE SHIT."

"HIS POWERS ARE NOT SHIT, THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL."

"NOT FOR THIS SO HA."

"ENOUGH," Hongjoong yelled and everybody went silent, turning to us. I stepped behind him quickly, not liking all of the attention being placed on me. I mean I preferred it when the 3 of them were arguing.

"What is going on? And where is Seonghwa," Hongjoong asked.

"Um, we were having a friendly discussion and Hwa Hyung is looking after Sannie," the tall peach-haired one said.

"What's happened with San," Hongjoong asked immediately. The smaller one with pale blond hair opened his mouth but paused and looked over at me.

"Youngie," Hongjoong questioned.

"Oh um, nothing really. He just got a little upset earlier and was crying so Seonghwa Hyung brought him over to his room to look after him," the blond said. Hongjoong called him Youngie so I'm assuming that's Wooyoung. And judging from how he was acting before and what the two eldest told me, it definitely is.

"Ok, well stop behaving like animals and keep it down because we have a guest," Hongjoong said.

"Right, sorry. Come on, let's do some PlayStation," peachy said and they all nodded before leaving.

"Sorry about that, I promise they're not, always like that," he said, wincing slightly.

"That's ok," I said quietly.

"Come on, let's get you settled in," he said gently. I nodded him and followed him out of the large open space and into another hallway. Unlike the other dark and cold hall, this one was warm and homey.

"Your room is the third one on the right. You're between San and Jongho and Mingi is just across the hall," he explained, pointing out the door. As we were walking over, I heard small cries and sniffles and I stopped, glancing over at Hongjoong.

"That's San, he'll be ok," he said quietly but I could see in his eyes that he was worried.

"You can go check on him. I know you want to," I said.

"I'm supposed to be looking after you," he said.

"He's your fake maknae, I can wait," I said, giving him a small smile.

"Thank you," he said quickly before opening the door and slipping inside. Once the door was closed, I looked around and went to the door to my new room. I walked inside and paused in surprise. It was a nice room. It had a big bed, a cupboard, a desk and a desk chair. There was even a computer on the desk that I think must be mine. It was nice and I closed the door, glancing at my bed and noticing there was a small box. I frowned and walked over, picking it up and looking at it. There was no note but I think I could safely assume it was from the boys. I undid the boy before unwrapping it and opening the box. I gasped in surprise at what I saw. Inside were a set of beautiful silk gloves that were a navy blue. They were good quality, like really good quality. I pulled them out of the container and placed them on the bed, my eyes welling up with tears at the sight. After finding out that I was a 'freak', my parents never really got me any presents. Not even the gloves I have right now were a present, they were just old ones that we had laying around. I've been wearing the same pair for 7 years and they're old and not the most comfortable. These gloves in front of me a really good quality and I could tell they costed a lot. I don't understand why they would get this for me when they barely know me. It's one of the nicest things someone has ever done for me. I lowered my head into my hands as I choked on a sob before the tears fell and I continued to sob. I couldn't stop myself from crying and my chest was beginning to feel a little tight. There was a loud noise and then a few seconds later my door was swung open and Hongjoong and Seonghwa were standing in the doorway with wide eyes.

"Yeosang?! What's wrong," Hongjoong asked hurriedly, stepping inside but not coming any closer to me. I choked on another sob, unable to get the words out so I just pointed at the gloves.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. We thought it may have been a bad idea but we wanted you to feel welcome," Seonghwa said.

"I-It's, it's n-nice," I sobbed. They glanced at each other in confusion before looking back at me.

"Then why are you crying," Seonghwa asked softly. I buried my face in my hands and cried harder, cursing myself internally for not replying.

"He's crying because he feels touched." That made me come down slightly, confused as to who was talking and I looked up quickly. There was another person in the hallway, he looked around my age, had bright pink hair and cat-like eyes. Seonghwa placed his hand on the back of his neck and rubbed it softly but he shrugged it off.

"I'm fine Hyung," he said.

"Do you mind if I come a little closer? No touching, just sitting," pinky said. I sniffled and nodded, for some reason trusting him to do what he said. He walked closer and sat down on the floor in front of me.

"Your parents didn't get you many presents, did they? And given they were the only people you saw, that means you don't really get presents am I right," he asked. That's kind of scary how he knows that. I nodded and took a deep breath, calming down slightly and wiping my eyes.

"That's ok, I cried a lot the first time Seonghwa Hyung got me a present. They don't really understand how much it means to us," he said.

"Y-You didn't get presents," I asked with a sniffle.

"My parents weren't nice," he said with a shrug. Oh my god. Fake maknae. San. I thought something may have happened and it must have something to do with his parents.

"I'm sorry to hear that," I said quietly.

"Eh, it is what it is," he shrugged.

"I'm San by the way. I'd shake your hand but I'm highly doubting you'd like that," he said. You know what, I like San.

"No, and I doubt you would either," I said, making him chuckle slightly.

"You never know," he shrugged with a wink. I chuckled at his words, rolling my eyes as he winked.

"Yeah as funny as that is, I really don't think you're going to like this kind of pain," I said with a sigh.

"That's ok, we can figure something out eventually," he said, giving me a big smile. When he smiled, his eyes crinkled up and he had little dimples on his cheek. It's cute, I can see why the other's might dote on him a little more and let him be a little bit more childish. That's when I realised why Hongjoong left me in the first place.

"Hey, if you don't mind me asking, are you ok? Um Hongjoong-ssi-."

"Hongjoong Hyung."

"Hongjoong Hyung left earlier to check up on you because you were crying. I don't wanna overstep so you don't have to answer," I said quietly, nervous as to whether that would be considered rude. He glanced at me and chuckled.

"It was stupid. I was just worried about meeting you," he said. I'm sorry what? He was crying because he was worried to meet me? Wait, was he scared of me? Did he hear what happened?

"I wanted to make a good impression but I was worried I'd come across, um, not great," he said. Oh.

"Well, you came across just fine. I just, am I doing ok," I asked worriedly.

"You're doing perfect Yeosang," he said in reassurance.

"Yeosang." I glanced up at Hongjoong who was still standing in the doorway with Seonghwa.

"Why don't you try on the gloves. We're not sure if they fit yet," he said. I nodded and grabbed the gloves, hesitating to take off mine and looking over at them worriedly.

"You're ok, we're not coming any closer," Seonghwa assured me. I nodded and quickly slipped off my gloves, fighting back the anxiety as I hurriedly put on the new gloves. My hands were shaking slightly and it took a little bit but no one moved or said anything. Once they were finally on, I calmed back down and took a look at them. They were so soft and actually fit really well.

"Thank you, these are lovely," I said, smiling happily. They really are the best present I've ever received.

"We're glad you like them," Hongjoong said. I just nodded in reply, not really knowing what to say.

"Well now that you've become acquainted with another one of us, we'll give you some time to yourself. Let you get really settled in before you have to start meeting the others," he added. I nodded in reply and San stood up quickly.

"It was a pleasure meeting you," San said, waving to me. I smiled slightly and waved back at him, watching as they left. There was one thing I noted as they left. The minute they got out the door, San's demeanour changed, and he grabbed Seonghwa's hand, tucking himself into his side and giggling as the older chuckled fondly. Fascinating.
