Chapter 21
Yeosang's POV
"Hey guys, Hongjoong Hyung wants us all in the dining room. Family meeting before dinner," Yunho said. I looked up from the couch where I was still cuddled in San's arms. We had been watching for about an hour before Yunho walked in. I quickly got up, helping San up as well before we went to the dining room where everyone else was already sitting down. We quickly sat down in the empty seats and sat down, turning to look at Hongjoong. He sighed before speaking up.
"I know we've had a few little discussions, but I want us to have a proper clear up, and one where everyone can comprehend it all," he said, glancing over at San briefly.
"Alright, so how're we starting this," Mingi asked.
"Well, you all know what's happened to my parents by now. They got into a car accident and they're not going to make it, or they may already be gone by now," Hongjoong said.
"I'm sorry Hyung, they were lovely people," Jongho said softly. Hongjoong gave him a small smile before taking a deep breath.
"The way I acted earlier, was really drastic. I know that now, and I once again would like to apologize for it-."
"I know you always say everyone get's their say in our meetings, but we understand Hyung. You don't need to keep apologizing," San interrupted gently.
"I appreciate that, but if anyone has any issues, then please bring them up now. Remember it's an open space, you can say whatever is on your mind and you won't be judged," Hongjoong said.
"You've already dealt with my issues," Wooyoung said with a shrug.
"You can add anything else you want though," Hongjoong said.
"I love you, if that counts," he said with a shrug. Hongjoong's eyes softened slightly, and he flashed him a small smile.
"I have something to add, if I may," Jongho spoke up.
"Of course, what's up," Seonghwa said with a nod.
"Uh, I just want Hyung to know that we'll always be here for him, no matter what. I know he got scared, but I hope that in future, leaving wouldn't be the first idea you have," Jongho said quietly.
"It won't be, I promise. Yeosangie gave me some pretty good insight into how I should be thinking," Hongjoong said, sending me a small smile. I sent him one back happy that my words had managed to get through to him. I would have hated for him to have left like that. I've actually grown a little, attached to him in my time here. I'd have for him to leave.
"Then I'm all good Hyung," Jongho said.
"I'm fine. You had me worried for a bit, but I understand," Mingi said.
"I'm fine, just um. Next time you want me out of your head, maybe just ask me nicely to get out next time, rather than yelling," Yunho said quietly.
"That's valid. I'm sorry. I just didn't want you reading into my thoughts and I already wasn't in a good state of mind. I'm sorry for that," Hongjoong said.
"It's ok, I forgive you," Yunho said with a nod.
"I don't have any problems, they were solved as soon as you stayed," I said.
"Are you sure. You've been through a lot lately, and this on top of it probably wasn't helpful," he said.
"Trust me, I've had worse," I said with a shrug. I also almost died today, but I'm nowhere near as bothered as I thought I would be.
"Sannie, how're you feeling about everything? I know it definitely upset you," Hongjoong said. I could tell the elder was worried as he was nibbling on his bottom lip and tapping the table lightly.
"I'm ok," San nodded.
"I'm gonna need a bit more than that San. Please," Hongjoong said. San sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"I'm um. It upset me, a lot. But it wasn't as much an issue that I was angry or upset with you. It just scared me that you were going to leave. You guys are my family and I don't know what would happen if any of you leave," San said, his voice getting quieter at the end.
"Do you still feel like that now," Hongjoong asked.
"I mean, if one of you tried to leave I would be heartbroken. But no one is leaving, so I'm fine now. I promise Hyung, I'm alright," San said with a nod.
"What about you Seonghwa Hyung, anything you want to say," Yunho asked.
"I'm ok, there's nothing I really want to talk about," Seonghwa said with a shrug. Really? I thought that Seonghwa would have a few things to say.
"Are you sure Hyung," Wooyoung asked.
"I'm um, I'm fine," Seonghwa said with a nod. Ok, is it just me or is he definitely not fine?
"You can talk to us Hyung. This is an open space remember," I said gently. Seonghwa glanced over at me quickly, his eyes widening slightly.
"I'm fine. It just scared me, but I've talked with Joong about it so it's fine," Seonghwa said.
"Are you sure Hwa," Mingi said with a frown.
"Yeah, I'm sure," Seonghwa said for a nod. Hongjoong frowned slightly before shuffling closer to Seonghwa and giving him a gentle side hug. Seonghwa chuckled and hugged the smaller tightly.
"Is there anything anyone else would like to input," Hongjoong asked.
"I think we'd all just rather put this behind us and move on," Jongho said, receiving multiple nods in return.
"Are you sure," Hongjoong asked worriedly.
"We're sure Hyung," Yunho said with a nod.
"Alright, well if that's everything-."
"There's something else we need to discuss actually," Mingi butt in quickly.
"What's wrong," Seonghwa said.
"Well, I think it would be best for San to explain, he didn't tell me much except that something happened," Mingi said. Ah right, my little brush with death earlier. Everyone turned to look at San who nodded slowly.
"There was another incident earlier, it was with Sangie," San began.
"What happened? Are you ok," Seonghwa asked me quickly.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said with a nod.
"We let him go out for a walk around town alone, or someone did anyway. He went over to the abandoned skate park," San explained. Apparently that's all he needed to say for everyone to understand what he was talking about.
"Oh my god, what happened," Wooyoung asked quickly.
"Please tell me you didn't get hurt," Jongho said.
"I didn't get hurt," I promised.
"He didn't realise what happens there and one of the NCT boys threw a fireball that almost hit him. Taeyong-ssi protected him though and no one was injured," San said.
"Who let him out by himself? He doesn't know the ins and outs around yet," Hongjoong said.
"I did. Well, Wooyoung, Mingi and I," Yunho said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Why would you just let him go alone. I don't mean to scold you guys right now after everything that's happened today, but he doesn't know all the rules yet," Hongjoong said.
"I don't know, we weren't exactly thinking properly," Mingi said quietly.
"That was dangerous. It's nothing against you Yeosang, we all know you're improving so well, but there's many things he doesn't know about yet. We still need to stay with him to make sure he's going to be ok," Hongjoong said. I nodded to let him know I was paying attention and I didn't mind what he said. I mean, after what happened I definitely understand the worry.
"We won't let it happen again," Wooyoung nodded.
"Good. Is there anything else anyone wants to bring up," Hongjoong asked. No one said anything and I quickly shook my head when Hongjoong looked over at me.
"Ok, let's all have some dinner then," Seonghwa said happily. The table was set and the food laid out for us to all eat happily together, everything finally being calm once again.
~~~~~
After we finished eating dinner, we all retreated back to our rooms to get ready for bed. I quickly went back to my room and got changed into my pyjamas. As I was putting my clothes in my hamper, there was a knock at my door.
"Come in," I called out. The door opened and I was surprised to see Jongho poke his head through the door before he walked inside and closed it. Usually someone might come to my room at night to sleep next to me but it's usually San, Wooyoung or Yunho.
"Hi, what's up," I asked, fiddling with my fingers. I froze and looked down at my hand, realising I had taken my gloves off and left them on my bedside table.
"I wa-."
"My gloves aren't on," I blurt out quickly. He raised an eyebrow before glancing at the bedside table to see them.
"That's ok, you can grab them and put them on," he said with a nod and a reassuring smile. I bit my lip nervously before slowly walking around my bed without going near him, rushing to my gloves when I was in the clear. I put them on quickly before walking back and sitting down on my bed.
"You good now," he asked gently.
"Yeah, I'm good," I said, nodding and giving him a gentle smile.
"Great. Um, do you mind if I sit down next to you," he asked.
"Of course," I said, shuffling over and patting the bed beside me. Jongho walked over and sat down beside me, looking a bit tense and unsure. I know why, and I know I'm the same. I've cuddled with San a lot, same with Mingi and Wooyoung but I've barely even touched Jongho so far.
"I'm not really sure how this conversation is supposed to go," Jongho admitted, making me giggle.
"I don't either. Usually one of the others say something or they just run over and basically jump me," I said, turning to face me.
"Yeah, I'm not really the type. But um. I've been wanting to hug you since day one and I'm not really sure how to bring it up, so I guess this is me bringing it up," he said slowly. I chuckled before opening my arms for him. He grinned and shuffled over, laying back against the headboard before slipping his arms under mine and lifting me up, pulling my into his side. I wrapped my arms around his neck warily before cuddling into his side, holding my breath and hoping nothing bad was going to happen. After a few more seconds, I let out my breath and relaxed into his hold. His arms wrapped around me and he squeezed tightly, a little too tightly.
"Jongho, strength remember," I pointed out.
"Oh crap. Oh my god, I'm so sorry Yeosang Hyung," he said quickly, letting me go and going to pull back but I clung to him tightly.
"Don't go Jongho," I said quickly. This is the first time I've ever been able to hug him and it's so much better than I expected. He's like a big giant teddy bear for me to cuddle and he's so warm.
"Ok, I'm not going anywhere," he said.
"Good, you're so comfy, and warm. You're a big fluffy pillow," I said, humming in content and nuzzling into his neck. He tensed slightly before quickly relaxing and holding me softly.
"You're staying here tonight. Or well, I'd love it if you stay here and sleep next to him," I said quietly.
"Yeah I can stay, that's fine. Someone needs to turn the light off though," he pointed out. I turned my head slightly and looked to the other side of the room where the light switch was. Yep, no way I'm going over there, I'm too comfortable. And the source of my comfort at the moment is Jongho so he isn't moving either.
"
"Yunho can turn it off. Let me just call for him," I said. Jongho chuckled but nodded. Yunho. Yunho listen in, I need you. Oh Yunho.
"What? Are you ok." I'm fine but I'm cuddling with Jongho for like the first time ever and he's really comfy and I don't want to move, can you please turn off the light.
"Do I love you guys that much?" Yes. Please Yunho.
"Fine."
"Yunho's coming," I told Jongho.
"Ok. You get comfortable and I'll tuck us in," he said softly. I grinned happily and nodded, shuffling over slightly to cuddle up to him properly. He reached over and pulled blankets over us before sliding down so we were laying properly against the bed. A few seconds later the door opened and Yunho poked his head in, smiling softly.
"How're you two going, after everything that's happened," he asked.
"We just talked about it Hyung, we're fine," Jongho said.
"I'm just double checking. Making sure there isn't something you want to say when Hongjoong was around," Yunho said.
"You can just look in our heads can't you," I said with a shrug.
"I could, but as I've said before, I don't just look into your minds. Unless I'm worried for your safety, you call for me or you give me permission, I'm not going to have a look," he said.
"Right. Well I'm ok," I said, Jongho nodding as well.
"That's good. Get some sleep alright guys, tomorrow we'll have some fun," he said.
"Not as much stress and worry," I said with a yawn.
"Yeah, not as much stress and worry. Now sleep," Yunho said with a soft chuckle. I nodded and yawned, closing my eyes and burrowing down against Jongho's chest. He wrapped a strong arm around my waist and held me tight, making sure to keep it at a comforting strength, not a hurting one. I heard the flick of the switch and then the sound of the door closing before I was slowly lulled to sleep by Jongho rubbing my back.
~~~~~
"Sangie Hyung, Yeosang Hyung." I slowly peeled my eyes open and yawned, feeling quite relaxed and warm.
"San, wake up and wake up Yeosang Hyung." San? I peeled my eyes open and turned my head to see that San was lying cuddled up to me, sleeping soundly.
"When did San get here," I asked Jongho.
"A few hours after you fell asleep. He just came in and cuddled up to you," Jongho replied.
"Now wake him up," he added. I chuckled but gently lifted my hand, pausing just before I touched his head.
"It's ok, you're not going to hurt him," Jongho said softly. I let out a breath and started to run my fingers through San's hair, gently coaxing him to wake up. His eyes slipped open and he nuzzled closer to me with a soft whine.
"Good morning Sannie," I said softly.
"Morning," he said sleepily.
"I think it's time we wake up. Jongho wants to get out of bed," I told him.
"M'not here," he whispered.
"What do you mean," I asked him in confusion.
"S'jus an illusion," he whispered before a second later, he disappeared. I couldn't help it, I burst out laughing. I could still feel him in my arms, he just vanished.
"Sannie, just because you're invisible, doesn't mean you're gone," I pointed out. Jongho chuckled and slid out from underneath me, slipping off the bed.
"Sannie, get your lazy butt of this bed and get out for breakfast otherwise Yeosang Hyung is going to miss out," Jongho said, smacking down. I'm not sure where he hit but San started giggling by my ear and he slowly became visible.
"You're mean Jjong," he said with a pout. Jongho rolled his eyes but walked back over and held out his arms. San immediately crawled over and climbed into his arms, allowing the younger to lift him up easily before he wrapped himself around him.
"Come on, someone probably has breakfast ready," Jongho said. I nodded and got up quickly, following him as he carried San out to the table.
"Morning boys, did you all have a good sleep," Seonghwa asked as we sat down, Jongho depositing San next to Hongjoong before he sat down. I was about to look away but I paused when I noticed something I hadn't seen before in the month I've been here. Hongjoong grabbed San's hands and they placed their foreheads together, breathing in deeply in synch. I was curious so I continued to watch and after a few more deep breaths, San looked a lot more awake and aware. He gave Hongjoong a small smile and pat his should before standing up and walking into the kitchen. I caught Hongjoong's eye and he moved over beside me.
"What was that," I asked him quietly.
"That was me getting San out of his head for a bit. Have you not seen one of us do it before," he asked and I shook my head.
"San will wake up in his safe space a lot, just because that's when he's all warm and safe. Unless we've discussed it or we know he's fine to relax for a bit, one of us will bring him out of it for the morning. It's generally either Yunho or I that will bring him out, Wooyoung and Seonghwa help get him down," Hongjoong explained.
"Ah, ok. Thank you for explaining," I said.
"No problem. And listen, can we have a chat after breakfast please," he asked me. I was confused but I gave him a small smile and nodded. I sat down beside Wooyoung and he smiled at me, placing some pancakes on my plate for me.
"Thanks," I said. A few seconds later, San plopped down on the chair on the other side of me and placed some cups down, grinning at me.
"You know being invisi-."
"Yes, I know, now shut up," he interrupted me quickly, blushing slightly. I giggled and he rolled his eyes, piling food onto his plate.
"Zip it," he grumbled.
"I didn't say anything," I said defensively.
"You thought something," he said, taking a bite of a pancake.
"I thought you were adorable," I said quietly, shrugging slightly. He sighed before slipping his hand into mine and squeezing it softly as he continued to eat.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"You're fine," I said, giving him a gentle smile. He relaxed slightly before we continued eating, our hands remaining locked.
Once breakfast was done, Seonghwa and Jongho cleaned the table and Hongjoong got up, gesturing for me to follow him into his room. I got up and followed him over, nervous and hoping I haven't done anything wrong. Maybe he thinks I overstepped yesterday and wants to tell me off. Once I walked into the room, he closed the door and pulled me over to sit down on the bed.
"Am I in trouble," I asked nervously, fiddling with my fingers.
"What? No, not at all Sangie," he said quickly.
"Yeosang, you are not in any way in trouble right now ok," he added firmly. I let out a breath of relief and nodded, thankful I wouldn't be getting into trouble.
"First of all, I wanted to thank you, for making sure I stayed. Leaving would've been the biggest mistake of my life and the boys won't admit it but it would've hurt them and broken their trust significantly," he said softly.
"I'm glad you stayed. I've only known you for a month, but I really do love you. I haven't really been given much love in my life, but I know how I feel," I said quietly. He smiled softly and hugged me close, kissing the top of my head. It still felt weird to me, slightly foreign but it was nice and comforting so I leaned into it.
"I'm glad I stayed as well," he whispered.
"Is that why you asked me to come in here and talk," I asked him.
"No, not exactly. From what I know you're free today, so I want to do something with you," he said.
"Ok Hyung, what're we all going to do," I asked. Going out and doing stuff together sounds fun.
"No, not all of us. Just me and you. Would you be comfortable spending a few hours with me today," he asked.
"Oh, ok. Yeah that's fine. What're we going to do," I asked him.
"I want to practice with you on controlling your powers-." I gasped and tensed at his words but he continued.
"I know it might sound scary without Mingi there but I think having him there is just a reason for you to bail, for you to not try your hardest," he said.
"Hyung I do, I promise I try my hardest," I said quickly. The last thing I want them to think is that I'm slacking off and not putting in any effort.
"Let me backtrack there, my wording was a bit off. You have a perfect failsafe with Mingi and part of your subconscious knows that and it lets off. I want to try it when it's just you and I, see how much progress we can make," he explained. I clenched my hands nervously, biting my bottom lip and trying to keep my heart rate steady.
"I don't want you to panic Yeosang, please don't panic. You don't have to say yes to this, please say no if you aren't comfortable," he said quickly. It's been a month, an entire month since I first came here and in that month these boys have become the closest thing I've had for a family in a long time. They've all somehow wedged their way into my heart and have accepted me with open arms despite how messed up I am, how dangerous they all thought I was. All I want is to be able to give back to them, show them their faith and kindness wasn't misplaced. The best way to do that is to improve on my skills, or in this case to be able to properly control them.
"I want to try it Hyung, I trust you," I said quietly. His face lit up and he smiled happily.
"I'm very glad you trust me," he said softly.
"You haven't done anything to make me not trust you," I said quietly, giving a gentle shrug.
"I still appreciate it," he said.
"So, when and where are we going," I asked.
"We can go now if you'd like. I know the perfect room to use. It's got some comfortable furniture to make you feel less anxious and there isn't really anything that can be thrown around by me if I lose control myself," he said.
"I might hurt you though," I pointed out quietly.
"I know, and it's more than likely that you actually will but I know that and I don't care. There's a chance I could mess up as well but I promise I will try not to let you get hurt," he told me, making me chuckle slightly.
"So we're both worried we're going to accidentally hurt each other," I said.
"Yeah, probably a recipe for disaster," he said with a sigh.
"Or the perfect combination," I said quietly. He chuckled softly and nodded, hugging me softly and rubbing my back.
"Are you definitely sure you're ok with doing this with me and Mingi not around," Hongjoong asked me.
"Yeah, I'm sure Hyung. I really, I really wanna be able to control this. I want to be able to hold you guys hands without my gloves and be able to feel your skin. I know it won't happen instantly but any improvement is better than nothing," I said quietly.
"Of course Sangie, you're going to improve but I don't want you too stressed," he said gently.
"I'll try not to be," I replied.
"I know. Now let's go and get practicing alright," he said softly. I bit my lip nervously but nodded firmly. I can do this, I know I can do this!
