Chapter 2

Yeosang's POV

"So, this is where you will be staying until we can properly evaluate you and figure out which sector you fit in to," Youngjay said as we showed me a small room. It had a bed, a TV, small kitchen, and a bathroom attatched.

"I thought you said you already know where to put me," I asked quietly, shifting away from him slightly as he was a little too close for comfort. I really don't need to be hurting anyone else right now, especially if the it's the people who are apparently trying to help me right now.

"I have a baseline idea, but I don't know a whole lot about you. They need to evaluate your personality and see if it is compatible with the sector I mentioned. From what I've seen so far though, I have no doubt that you'll be a good fit," he said as we walked inside the room. I immediately went over to the bed and sat down, placing my hands in my lap.

"I will tell you more about them after you get assigned alright," he said.

"Ok," I said in a small voice.

"For now, I want you to get settled in. Joonwon will come back here in an hour and bring you to the room to be evaluated," he explained. I'm still a little nervous around Joonwon, given he tackled me to the ground and didn't listen to me, but he looked after me earlier and I'm thankful for that.

"Will you be evaluating me," I asked nervously. Youngjay is the only person that I fully trust right now as so far, he's just been looking out for me.

"No, I won't be. I don't have the qualifications but the person who will be evaluating you is very good. He's very nice and he's just going to have a chat with you," he said. I bit my lip nervously, fiddling with my gloves.

"Ok," I said quietly.

"Thank you Yeosang. You will be just fine, I promise," he said. Yeah, I don't really trust promises anymore but we'll see. I just nodded and watched as he left the room, closing the door behind him. I frowned slightly when I heard a click and I got up, moving over to the door, and trying the handle. Sure enough, it was locked. It worried me slightly, making me nervous as to why they would lock it but then I thought about the fact that I, you know, killed people and I figured it was probably the right idea. Now that I was finally alone, the severity of the situation finally came crashing down. I actually killed two people. Whether I meant to or not, two people are dead because of me and I can't take that back. My knees weakened and I fell to the floor. I moved so I was hidden between the bed and the wall, moving into the familiar position of my knees tucked to my chest as I began to cry. It's just so surreal to think that I will now forever be a killer, someone who has taken the lives of others. And now, I'm in a foreign place, with people I don't know. Could this get any worse? I mean, I could be in jail but right now, this still doesn't seem like a great thing either. How am I supposed to cope with meeting so many new people and living with them? The last seven years, it's just been me and my parents and I barely talked to them. I don't know how I will be able to make people like me because I don't exactly have the best people skills. This is all new and scary and I don't have anyone with me to tell me it's going to be ok, someone to lean on to make myself feel safer and more at ease.

I just stayed curled up in the corner, crying sadly as I was gripped with the overwhelming fear of what was to come. After what must've been an hour, there was a click and the door opened, making me move closer to the wall to try not to be seen.

"Kid? You in here," Joonwon asked. I sniffled slightly and wiped my eyes, trying to quickly get rid of the evidence but it was a bit too late for that. There were hurried footsteps and then Joonwon's head poked around the corner. His eyes ran over me and then he sighed, moving to sit on the bed so he could look down at me. I watched him warily, but he didn't go to move closer.

"Youngjay was right," he said with a small nod.

"Wh-What," I asked in confusion.

"You really are just scared and confused," he said. I looked down and my gloves, sniffling slightly.

"I'm sorry about earlier. The way we handled you when we first found you, it wasn't right and we shouldn't have been that harsh," he said gently. I glanced back up at him, studying his face to try and find an obvious lie but he seemed genuinely sorry.

"It's fine, I understand. I'm dangerous and you were trying to make sure I didn't hurt anyone else," I said with a shrug.

"You're only dangerous right now because you don't know how to control your abilities. You haven't been in a safe environment where you can learn to control yourself, or weaken your abilities," he said.

"I just don't want to hurt people," I whispered.

"I know kid, I know. So right now, we're going to go get you evaluated so hopefully by tomorrow, we can get into your new sector and work towards helping you," he said. He stood up and moved away, waiting for me as I stood up. I stretched slightly and wiped my eyes before following him out of the room. He walked close to me but didn't touch me, which I was thankful for as we walked down some halls. After walking for a few minutes, we finally stopped outside a door.

"This is it, just walk inside, sit down and he'll be right with you," Joonwon said. I nodded and turned to the door, biting my lip, and tapping my leg up and down anxiously.

"You'll be fine kiddo; we are just finding where to put you. We aren't deciding your fate," he told me. I took a deep breath, spurred by his words, and opened the door, slipping inside. I immediately noticed the man sitting on a couch, a clipboard in his lap. He looked old, maybe about early 60's and he had glasses on. He didn't look to threatening and actually kind of inviting but I remained a bit wary.

"Kang Yeosang is it," he asked me. I nodded, shifting nervously, and looking around.

"Come sit down," he said, pointing to the couch across from him. I walked over and sat down awkwardly, looking over at the man.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Yeosang, I'm Min Jihoon," he said, holding out his hand. I jumped slightly and frowned, not reaching forward, if anything, moving further away. He gave me a small smile before pulling his hand away.

"So Yeosang, how old are you," he asked. Ok, so we're just getting straight to it, I guess.

"18," I replied.

"How long have you known about your abilities," he asked me.

"Since I was 11," I replied, making him glance up at me.

"How come you never registered that you were mutated? Perhaps you could've come here sooner if you couldn't control your abilities," he asked me with a raised eyebrow. I honestly didn't even know there was something like registering.

"I don't really know much about it. After the first incident, we moved and mum and dad wouldn't let me leave the house," I told him. He nodded and wrote a few things down before looking up at me.

"So, you weren't allowed to leave your house at all," he asked me, and I nodded.

"What was the first incident you just told me about," he asked. I frowned at the memory but knew I had to tell him.

"I accidentally hurt my best friend. When we touched, he started screaming and then the same thing happened to my teacher. They both ended up in hospital and I never saw them again," I said quietly, clenching my fists closed tightly.

"Can you explain what happened earlier today," he asked me. I froze and looked away, thinking back to what happened sadly.

"It was an accident," I whispered.

"I have no doubt that it was, I would just like to get a better grasp on what actually happened," he said.

"There isn't much to get a grasp on. They broke in, forced off my gloves and grabbed my hands even though I begged them not to. And they died because of it," I shrugged with a sigh.

"But how come these boys died and your friend didn't," he asked slowly as he wrote on his clipboard. What am I, a professor in mutations or something? How could I have any idea why it happened.

"I'm not sure. I passed out so I don't really know what happened," I replied quietly. He hummed and continued writing down notes on the clipboard.

"Do you always wear those gloves," he asked, pointing to my hands.

"Yeah, mum and dad gave them to me as a precaution to make sure I don't touch anyone," I nodded.

"Do you take them off when you're alone," he questioned.

"No, not really. It's just easier to keep them on, rather than sometimes taking them off and other times not taking them off. And it's safer that way, so I won't forget to put them back by accident," I said. I unconsciously pulled my gloves up more, making sure they were secure. I saw his eyes flit down to look at my hands before moving back up.

"When was the last time you've had physical contact with someone that you've initiated. Like a hug, a high-five," he asked. I shifted uncomfortably at his words. Normal people would probably say a few days, maybe even just a day. But obviously, I'm not a normal person.

"Um, I'm not really sure. Probably since before my abilities showed," I said honestly.

"Why is it that you don't hug anyone or touch anyone," he inquired. What? Has he not even listened to what I've been telling them this whole time?

"What do you mean? I don't touch them because if I do, it will hurt them," I said incredulously.

"But you're wearing gloves," he pointed out.

"That doesn't mean anything. What would happen if it slips down? And we don't know if it's just touching my hand, it could merely be touching my skin," I said shaking my head.

"But what if it doesn't hurt anyone," he asked.

"No. No way. I've already told you I don't want to hurt people," I said quickly, shaking my head adamantly.

"That's ok, we're not going to make you do anything. I think I've got all the information I need, you're free to go. You will be taken back to your room and we'll give you some dinner. You will stay there tonight and tomorrow we will take you to your new sector where you will meet the people you will be staying with from now on," he told me. I stood up and bowed slightly towards him before hurrying out of the room. I closed the door and took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down my racing heart and slightly shaking hands.

"You good Kid?" I jumped and spun around, my heart pound but it was just Joonwon.

"Um, I was told to go back to my room," I said quietly.

"I know, but are you ok? You seem a bit rattled," he said.

"I'm fine, I just wanna go to my room please," I said quickly. He nodded and walked down the hall, beckoning me to follow.

When we finally got to the room I stayed in last time, I waved goodbye to him and quickly went inside. I heard the door lock once again, but I didn't even care. Today has been an emotional rollercoaster ride and I just want to forget about it for a little bit. I quickly crawled into the bed and pulled the covers over me, closing my eyes tightly. I just want to forget...

Hongjoong's POV

There was a soft knock on my door, and I lifted my head up from my book, not stopping as I continued to run my fingers through the bright pink locks of the younger boy sleeping against me.

"Come in," I called out softly. The nob turned before the door slowly opened and a head of light brownish hair popped inside.

"Hey Hwa, what's up," I asked quietly. He walked inside and glanced at the boy cuddled up to my side.

"As much as I would hate to interrupt Sannie's daily cuddle session, he's going to have to switch to someone else today. Youngjay Hyung just asked for you. Apparently, they found someone new today and they think that he would be a good fit to join us," Seonghwa said. Huh, someone new? It's been a while since we've had someone knew. Not since Mingi joined us almost 2 years ago.

"Ok, just let me wake up the baby," I said. He chuckled and nodded, leaning back against the wall.

"Sannie. Baby, you need to wake up," I said, gently rocking the younger boys' shoulders. His eyes peeled open and he whined, cuddling closer to me.

"San, come on, you need to get up," I said with a chuckle. He can be quite clingy when he wants to be, although it's understandable, given the childhood he had.

"San, we have someone new who might be joining our sector and I need to go talk to Youngjay and the others to figure some stuff out," I told him. He immediately sat up, almost smashing his head into mine in the process but I thankfully moved just in time.

"We're getting another friend," he asked quickly.

"Hopefully. I just need to talk it out with our supervisors and see whether he will be a good fit," I said.

"Oh, this is so exciting. I'm gonna go tell Youngie," he said, jumping up and running from the room. I chuckled fondly as I watched him go and Seonghwa smiled at him as well.

"He's a good kid," he said quietly.

"Yeah, he is. I'm glad he's with us now," I said as I got up off the bed.

"So, this new guy, did Youngjay say anything about him," I asked, stretching, and fixing up my hair slightly.

"Not really, just that the poor things gone through some trauma, might even be worse than Sannie apparently. I'm not sure what his ability is but I don't think it's a very nice one," he explained. Aish, poor kid. I hope it wasn't anything too bad.

"Alright, well I'll go talk to them and see how it goes," I said.

"Hwa," I said softly as I paused in the doorway. He glanced up at me, raising an eyebrow.

"How're you feeling today," I asked gently, worried about his condition.

"Great. Today's one of those days where I feel like I could heal a bullet wound," he said happily. Ok, that's good, it means he's getting better. I will forever hate his parents for what they did to him, treating him as some sort of money maker rather than a human being.

"I'm glad. I'll see you later," I said, waving goodbye before leaving. I was walking through our sector when a door swung open and I was bowled over. I winced and looked to the side, seeing Wooyoung sprawled on the floor. Of course.

"Wooyoung. What have we said about using your speed in the halls," I asked with a groan?

"Sorry Hyung, I was running to get to Sannie cos he called me. I didn't realise you were here," he said, helping me up.

"But you know you shouldn't be using your powers to run through the halls like that," I told him.

"Eh, it get's me places quicker. Bye Hyung," he giggled before practically disappearing. I honestly wonder whose idea it was to give Wooyoung of all people super speed? I continued my journey, leaving the sector and walking down the halls of the facility.

It took me about 3 minutes to get to the room and I knocked quickly, hearing a come in. I opened the door and walked inside, seeing 5 people already there. Youngjay, the head of the facility, Joonwon, one of the guards of the facility, Hangyeol, another guard, Jihoon, our resident psychiatrist and Siwoo, our welfare worker.

"Hongjoong, it's good to see you," Siwoo said and I sent her a small smile.

"So, Seonghwa said you guys wanted to talk," I said, clapping my hands slightly.

"Yes, sit down so we can discuss it," Youngjay said. I walked over and sat down beside Joonwon.

"Alright, lay it on me," I said. As the leader in our sector, everyone who joins us must go through me.

"His name is Kang Yeosang and he is 18 years old. He's older than San but younger than Yunho," Youngjay told me. Ok, that's a good age, he'll be right in the middle.

"What's his ability, Seonghwa mentioned it might not be a great one," I said.

"It's a tough one. Physical touch causes other's pain," Youngjay said. Woah, if he touches someone, it causes them pain. That's so sad.

"Damn. Are there precautions in place," I asked, worrying about the well-being of the boys? I really want to give everyone a chance but when it comes down to it, my family comes first, and I will only decide if they are ok.

"He wears gloves on his hand at all times, to make sure he won't hurt someone, and he doesn't touch anyone," Jihoon explained. He doesn't touch anyone?

"What, so he doesn't, you know, get hugs or high-fives, or even head pats," I asked.

"He hasn't had any physical affection in about 7 years," Jihoon said.

"Shit. You're kidding right? Seven years, what about his parent," I asked with a frown. I mean I hate physical affection but even I need some cuddles at least once a week to relax and release some tension.

"His parents are assholes," Joonwon spat angrily.

"While I don't like the language, I agree. He found out about his abilities when he was 11 after he accidentally hurt someone and sent them to the hospital. He moved afterwards and his parents wouldn't let him leave the house, he wasn't even allowed to see anyone, so they were the only people he saw for seven years," Youngjay explained. Holy cow, how can someone live like that? How can parents put their kids through that? Not allowing them to interact with anyone for seven years. Locking them up, instead of getting them help to control their powers. That's just plain abuse.

"That's horrible, I feel so bad for him. So how did you guys find out about him," I asked.

"Now here's the challenging part. I want you to listen to everything I say, exactly as I say it alright," Youngjay said. Ok, that sounds weird, but I nodded in reply.

"Yeosang accidentally killed two people earlier today." Oh shit. He killed someone? What if he kills one of the boys? I would never live with myself if I let someone in and the boys got hurt because of it.

"Before you start thinking of everyway the others are going to die, I want you to listen to the rest of what I say. Yeosang in no way wanted to hurt anyone and he would never do so intentionally. It was rather unfortunate circumstances to be honest and by no way his fault. Two boys broke into his house, forced his gloves off and grabbed his hands. He said he fell and hit his head and passed out and when he woke back up, they were dead," Youngjay said.

"Why would they force him to touch them? Wouldn't he have told them it would cause them harm," I asked with a frown.

"Yeah, he did but some people view you guys as circus acts and don't listen," Siwoo said.

"Honestly they got what was coming for them. I don't blame Yeosang for that at all," I said. I really don't, that's just a horrible situation and I feel bad for him. Hwa was right, I really do think he got it worse than San did, and that's really saying something. Imagine being the cause of two people's deaths even though it was absolutely not your fault.

"What's his mental-state like," I asked.

"It's a little all over the place but I'm hopeful with some help it can improve a lot. I'm not sure he's had enough time to fully process what has happened today, but he's taken it as well as one can. He's scared of himself, really scared. He doesn't trust himself to be around people and he doesn't even trust touching people, even if it's with gloves on. He seems very shy and nervous, so if he does join your sector, I suggest you get Wooyoung, San and Yunho to tone it down a bit so they don't overwhelm him," Jihoon said. I nodded along, processing his words. It doesn't seem too bad. What happened was an accident and it seems he is extremely careful so nothing will happen unless we're stupid enough to force off his gloves and grab his hands. It's sad that he's scared of himself, but I think given some time, we can help him and hopefully he can be a nice new addition to our family.

"What are you thinking? If you say yes, there will obviously be the first two-week trial run," Youngjay said.

"No, I think I'd like to try it out and I know the boys would like to as well. He's been through a lot and I'm hoping we can help," I said with a nod. Youngjay immediately smiled, along with the others.

"That's great Hongjoong. I really appreciate it. We will be letting him in tomorrow to join you guys. I'd like to try and have him rooming close to Mingi, so that if something happens, Mingi will be able to mute his powers but I don't want him to do it too much. Supressing abilities too much can be bad for you. You guys will need to make sure you respect the boundaries he sets but I have no doubt that you all will. We'll try to check in after a few days, but we want to give you guys some time to help him settle in," Youngjay said.

"Of course. Is there anything else I should know beforehand," I asked them.

"He's very jumpy and too much interaction makes him anxious and upset," Joonwon said.

"That's ok. I will pay close attention to him when we interact and if I see him getting upset, I'll make sure the boys back off a bit," I said.

"That's good. For now, all I can say is that you should brief the boys a little and wait for tomorrow. We'll stop by at around noon so make sure Mingi is awake by then," Youngjay said. I chuckled, knowing Mingi likes to sleep in sometimes so we'll most likely have to wake him up in the morning.

"I'll see you tomorrow then I guess," I said, standing up and bowing to them. They stood and bowed in return before I left the room, heading back to the sector.

When I got back, I opened the door to find Mingi, San and Wooyoung wrestling on the ground while Seonghwa and Jongho watched with raised eyebrows and Yunho was nowhere to be seen.

"What are you idiots doing," I asked as I closed the door behind me.

"They started betting on who was the strongest, then they started wrestling," Jongho said. I fought back a chuckle and looked over at Seonghwa who was watching the scene in horror.

"I've given up," he said, shaking his head.

"Jjong, can you do the honours baby," I asked. He grinned and walked forward, grabbing San and Wooyoung's shirts before pulling them up and away from each other, just holding them up slightly. It's always fun to have a strong maknae.

"No, this is no fair. You literally have super strength, you can't join the competition to see who is stronger," Wooyoung said with a pout.

"Hi kids, nice to see you're all behaving for your Seonghwa Hyung," I said, making the three previously wrestling turn to me quickly.

"Hi Joong Hyung," San said happily, his eyes turning into little crescents with his smile. Aish, I can't stay mad at the boys, they're too cute.

"Alright, you can put them down Jongho," I said.

"No fun," he said but did as asked and placed the boys back down.

"So, how'd it go? Are we getting a new friend," San asked excitedly as the other's all turned to me?

"We are, but we need to have a little talk first. Can someone please go get Yunho," I asked? Wooyoung disappeared quickly, which means he ran off to get the said boy.

"That bad," Seonghwa asked quietly as he walked to stand next to me.

"Sad, really sad," I said with a sigh. He nodded solemnly and moved away, ushering the boys to sit on the couches. Wooyoung arrived a little later, biting his lip worriedly as Yunho trailed behind him. I could immediately tell that Yunho was having a bit of an off day. It upsets me when he has a day when he can't control his abilities because he's usually so lively but on his off days he's so down.

"I'm fine Hyung, it's only you guys, your thoughts can actually be quite entertaining," Yunho said softly, flashing me a small smile. Despite his words, he walked straight over to Mingi and flopped down beside him, grabbing his hand, and curling into his side as he let out a sigh of relief. Mingi leaned down and placed a gentle kiss to Yunho's forehead.

"So, I hear we have a new guy coming along soon. What've we missed," Yunho asked.

"Ok, so his name is Kang Yeosang. He's younger than Yunho but older than Sannie," I said.

"Another Hyung and I'm still the maknae," Jongho groaned.

"What's he like," Mingi asked.

"Shy I've heard, very shy," I trailed off as I thought about what I was told and how to explain it.

"Ok, I'm not gonna sugar coat this. The poor kids been through hell and back," I said with a sigh.

"How bad," San asked, his playful attitude completely wiped away as he looked concern. I would expect nothing less than that from him. After what he went through, I know he always just prays no one has to go through what he did.

"Pretty bad. Not like, not like what happened with you but still bad," I said.

"Just because his parents didn't beat him, doesn't mean he didn't go through a lot. What did Youngjay tell you," San asked.

"Ok, so first of all, he has a pretty shitty ability. He can't touch anyone without causing them to be in a lot of pain."

"Damn, that seems like hell," Jongho said quietly.

"You haven't heard the half of it. He found out when he was 11 years old after hurting someone accidentally. His parents made them move to another town right after and forced him to stay inside the house. He went 7 years without interacting with someone other than his parents," I explained.

"Ew, that sounds horrible. I mean I love my parents but only seeing them for 7 years and not interacting with another human being would suck," Yunho groaned.

"Now something happened earlier today, and it was something bad, but it was in no way his fault-."

"He killed someone didn't he," Seonghwa said quietly. My head snapped towards him and my mouth dropped open in shock at how he caught on so quickly.

"Before you guys freak out, it was a complete accident and in no way his fault," I said quickly.

"Like that time you flipped the bus by accident. When you couldn't control your abilities," Wooyoung asked.

"In a way but even less his fault. He wears gloves on his hands as an extra precaution, so he won't hurt anyone. Two boys broke into his home and forced him to touch them as some sort of joke. Their death was a result of their stupidity and they've left Yeosang with that on his conscience," I explained.

"Oh my god, that's terrible," Yunho said with a frown.

"I know. The poor boy hasn't even hugged someone in 7 years, and he hasn't even held someone's hand," I said, making Wooyoung and San gasp.

"How is he still alive," Wooyoung asked. Yes, the priorities in life.

"You said yes right? That we'd help him," Jongho asked quickly.

"Of course, I did. They told me a few things to let you know of so that we can make him as comfortable as possible tomorrow," I said. They all nodded and listened intently.

"After everything that's happened, he's become rather scared of himself. He won't let anyone touch him, and he won't touch anyone, gloves or not. He hasn't really interacted with many people lately so he's probably not going to be very comfortable interacting with us. We'll have to start easy so don't jump all over him and overwhelm him. Keep aware of his boundaries and don't overstep ok," I said, looking sternly at the two little devils.

"Rude," Wooyoung said while San scowled.

"Please, tell him he's wrong," Jongho scoffed. Neither replied, opting to stay quiet because it was 100% true. When Jongho first came to the institution, Wooyoung and San immediately pounced on him and Jongho ended up having to shove them into a dumpster to get them away. I don't think Yeosang will be able to do that.

"We'll do good Hyung, I promise," Mingi said firmly.

"Yeah, he's one of us now, we'll look after him," Yunho said with a firm nod. I glanced over at Seonghwa, catching his eyes as he sent me a small smile. Yeah, we'll look after him.
