Book Cover : EXPLAINED!!
If you're a regular reader of
7heartbeats, 14faces ; then you might've noticed in the recent weeks I have been changing the cover of my main book quite a lot.
Well, only till I got to the perfect one I could make for the book which depicts the whole story in just a glimpse.
Yes, you read it right. Let's take you to the ride.
Title
You can see that there is a small "with" in the middle when there isn't so in the main title of the book. Why so?
That's the biggest hidden message I tried to give about the story from its cover.
Initially, as you get introduced to all the 14 characters, your thoughts about the title might be.. oh, so it's 14 faces as the 7 girls and the 7 boys combined and since it's their love stories it is said as 7heartbeats.
It is this misconception getting a clear vision by the last chapter of the book. So if you read that, you know what it means. ;)
The Korean Subtitle
Well, the korean quote if you noticed is from their 'Heartbeat' song which says.. "Dashi neol chajeurkkeoya unmyeong cheoreom."
Reason behind my using it in Korean letters instead of English is..
Romanized version doesn't look that pretty and is too crowded.
And the English translation which is, "I will find you again like destiny." defeats the whole purpose of it being used in Korean words.
I mean it can just be a personal opinion, but I feel some things are better understood without the translations. Translation makes it bland and doesn't let the real emotion surface.
If you know korean, you will feel it yourself that the translation isn't giving out what the line is actually about.
Don't worry, I ain't discouraging the ones who doesn't know korean/learning it. I too am learning Korean so we are okay. We can together make it possible! ^.^
Secondly, the reason I used it is because BTS's heartbeat song is the theme of the book. The plot line is based on this very line. If you are familiar with the story, you know how.
Ending quote
What's the need for two quotes? You may ask.
It is because, the Korean one is a subtitle more than a quote.
Explanation : The meaning is as simple as the phenomenon that you need to throw a ball first before it bounces back to you from a surface.
They too were hurled, scattered, and after hitting their bottom line they bounced back to each other. They realized their original place after being broken apart.
To note here is that, it doesn't necessarily mean breaking from a toxic relation you will bounce back to it again.
Bouncing back simply means the original place you belong to, where your happiness lies.
So, if you hit your worst days don't lose hope, you gotta realize then that you have hit your surface and now you just have to wait till your flight back to your happiness is reached.
Why does it happen so, that after a few sad days there are times when we smile again?
Pictures
All the Polaroid photographs and the focal one represent a cruicial time/plot of the story.
The focal picture tells us about the time when they were having their photoshoot with happy smiles.
The Jhope Polaroid tells us the time where he misses his lost love Susan even in his dreams.
The Suga Polaroid, the time when the betrayal he felt stoned him into being something he is not. Unwillingly he ends up hurting the ones he loved thinking his aloofness would do them good.
The Jungkook Polaroid, the time when he was completely shattered and lost- not aware of his destination. Perhaps the time when he gives up everything.
The RM Polaroid, the time when he finds himself in a dilemma unable to find his true happiness.
His old unfamous life, that he missed and believed to be his fort of peace didn't seem to do him any good when he finally leaves everything behind, finding an escape.
The Jimin Polaroid, the time when he had to put an "I am fine" mask when he was not to the least.
Very unrealisticly or so to him, he lost his love to some nasty rumors.
The V Polaroid, the time when he gets deeper and deeper into the leaden sea where no ray of hope or light reached him.
V, being the one who is emotionally known to be very sensitive, was distressed about what was happening between them.
The Jin Polaroid, the time when he regrets leaving his little ones behind prioritizing his weak heart. Only to realize it wasn't any better if they ended up losing something bigger because everyone left finding an escape for themselves except for one whose only escape was death.
The base picture represents the mixture of different shades of our lives. The soft merge ins of the pastel colors say how our lives too are composed of sad and happy days together making it beautiful. It would have been too plain if there was just one color.
Symbolism
There are only two symbols to depict a little more of the story.
Generally, it looks like there's only one ECG symbol but factually there are two.
As you might have read in the warning sections, there is one death and one suicide attempt.
Well, there you go. The flat line on the left represents one death and beating ECG represents the other.
_______
That's it. I believe I have covered all sections well. Let me know if you like the cover! :)
Also, would you like to have a BTS dorm tour as imagined for the book? ;)
