- [ April 22nd ] -
Yumi's POV:
Spring has arrived in New York City,the air is slightly warmer than it was before in the winter.
The trees are growing beautiful flowers on them.
As the month went by,my belly grows larger by the second.
Now slightly rounder than before,I waddle slightly down the street holding hands with Mingyu.
The car is getting worked on for the day so we won't be seeing it until later on in the evening.
I'm not complaining though,the walk is nice and so is the view I get as I step on the concrete.
My heels clicking as I walk,Mingyu's arm goes around my waist to hold me closer to him.
We're going to our usual routine doctor's appointment to check on the baby growing inside of me,today we find out what we're having.
We wanted to tell our parents in a special way.
Mingyu said whatever the result is he's sending the results off to a local bakery near our apartment and we're inviting our parents over afterwards.
- [ after a while ]  -
We arrive at the doctor's and I'm the only one inside the waiting area.
I don't question it since it's usually packed in here.
I sit down slowly on the chair since bending has gotten harder for me recently.
It hurts. Like a lot.
So I bounce my leg in anticipation and Mingyu's warm,gentle,slightly calloused yet reassuring hand touches my leg and if it wasn't for the jeans I'm wearing.
I would've felt the touch on my bare skin.
I gulp slightly feeling the small touch from him and he notices quickly.
"I know we haven't been able to-"
"Babe. Not. Right. Now" I say grabbing his hand hard to make him shut up.
"Have our steamy nights,once they give us the all-clear they'll come. I've been so swamped with work and I apologize for that babe." He says lowlyz
I nod while slightly pouting.
Once again,I've been pushed aside while Mingyu works to almost late hours at his new desk job at a law office.
By the time he gets home,we try to initiate something between us but we end up knocking out in the bed all snuggled up in each other's arms before anything happens.
Again I don't complain,because at least I get him to cuddle with me once he's home even if it means us most likely sleeping right afterwards.
"No need...I understand" I say and he lifts my chin with his finger.
"That's just it,you're the best wife I could ever ask for. You haven't complained once every time I got home late recently...I hate being away from you that long." He says sighing and grabbing his head.
He has off & on again headaches from time to time.
I move his hand and rub small yet deep circles into his forehead.
He groans slightly before loosening up.
"You look so cute" I say in awe and my finger trails down to his lips.
I touch them and they feel so soft.
Those same soft lips kiss me better than anyone I've ever kissed in my life.
I gasp slightly when he opens his mouth a little and my finger goes inside his mouth.
I go to pull it out but he leaves it there before letting go with a "pop" sound.
I stay there with my jaw open and that's when I hear a familiar voice say "Yumi Kim?" from behind.
Mingyu smirks and raises a eyebrow at me.
"Enjoyed that didn't you?" He asks me winking and I smack his chest.
"Tease." I whine and stand up.
"I'm here!" I say running to the door and the nurse escorts us down the hallway to a room.
Our room to sit down and where we'll be doing the sonograms of the baby.
We wait for the doctor after the nurse checks us in and leaves us alone in the room.
I pull Mingyu by his shirt closer to me.
"You owe me for teasing me like that" I whisper.
"Teasing how again?" He says feigning innocence.
"Where's the Oscar for best actor? I found the man perfect for the award" I say rolling my eyes playfully.
"You love me even when I tease you" he says and I laugh.
"You admitted it,so you like to tease me?" I say raising a eyebrow at him.
"If it gets you all tensed up like this...yeah" he says and I laugh again.
"You're right I do love you,but teasing me in public is mean" I say pouting and he chuckles.
"Stick that lip back in your mouth" he says.
"Why should I?" I say crossing my arms.
"I'll bite it." He says
"Huh?-" I say as I'm cut off guard by that answer.
He nods at me.
"You heard me,I'll bite on it." He says
"I'm married to Dracula aren't I?" I say and he chuckles again before moving closer to my face.
He nibbles on my bottom lip slightly and I groan pulling away.
I smack his chest as he moves away.
"I did say I was gonna bite it!" He says putting his hands up in the air and I roll my eyes.
"Whatever,I didn't think you were gonna actually do it" I say rubbing my bottom lip.
"Am I bleeding?" I add and he shakes his head.
"Not even a cut babe" he says.
"Ok you can't expect me not to think I was bleeding when you bit me like that" I say laughing before we hear a knock on the door.
"Come in" he says.
Our doctor,Dr. Karina Patel and a unknown woman walk into the room.
The sonographer,a woman not that far away from Mingyu's age with short length hair styled as a small Afro.
"Hello Yumi! Oscar was busy today so he couldn't do your scans today,but I would like to introduce to you one of our new residents in the nearby hospital who interns for me...go ahead introduce yourself" Mrs. Patel says.
"Hello. My name is Rochelle Anderson,I'm 24 years old and I'm going to be your new sonographer while mister Oscar is away for a bit" the woman says shaking both me and Mingyu's hands right after introducing herself.
We cut straight to the chase right after catching up with Mrs. Patel and start the sonogram process.
I lift up my shirt halfway so Rochelle can apply a thick blue cooling cream that heats up on the skin.
After applying it she quickly rubs the transducer,a small hand held device over my round belly.
I gasp when I look up at the machine and see our baby.
It's adorable looking even in the womb.
She takes 3D images of the baby while scanning it.
She throughly checks the baby and looks up at me.
"Well Mrs. Kim would you and Mr. Kim like to know what you're having?" She asks me.
I glance at Mingyu and he nods quietly before holding my hand.
He moves closer to me and kisses my hand.
"Yes we would LOVE to know" I say smiling.
She checks one more time.
She stands up and smiles.
"It's a girl." She says before clapping.
Mrs. Patel cheers and claps.
My eyes tear up and I hold Mingyu tightly in my arms.
He's bouncing up and down as I hold onto him.
He's making noises that are incoherent at this point.
"Babe,we're having a little girl!" I say and he wipes my tears.
"I'm so happy for us baby! A little princess to spoil" he says.
"I have my queen and now I have my princess" he adds moving some of my hair out of my face.
"You don't mind being outnumbered?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"Not at all,I have my world. You and this baby. What more would I want?" He says and I lean in close.
I close my eyes and he kisses me softly.
"Awhhh!" I hear and I open my eyes to see Rochelle watching me as Mrs. Patel wipes her tears away with tissues.
- [ after a while ] -
Rochelle comes to clean me up so we can leave.
As she's cleaning the gel off of my belly,I couldn't help but look at her.
"Rochelle,would you like to hang out sometime?" I ask her.
"I would love to actually,I'm new to New York" she says and I smile.
"Where are you from originally?" I ask.
"I traveled a bit as a kid because of my dad being in the military,so I was born in Georgia,raised in California,jumped around to other states after that and moved over here after graduating from college in Colorado" she says and I smile big.
"It's actually kinda funny,my grandfather used to say "Rocky you better not pursue Sonography! You're better off with Real Medicine!" But I attempted to do Pre-Med and I panicked. So I chose this route" she says.
"Rocky's your nickname?" I ask.
"From that whole story you only caught that?" She said laughing.
"Sorry,it's just I was curious" I say giggling.
"Yeah my family used to say I was tough as Rocky so the nickname stuck with them,I like it though." She says.
"Not a bad nickname,just was curious...mines is Umi not much for me to explain about it,it's simply a shorter version of my name" I say and she giggles.
"You know what give me your number so I can save it and we'll arrange something soon to hang out!" She says.
"Ok" I say and I write down my number on a piece of paper.
I fix my shirt and carefully get down from the seat.
Mingyu holds my hand as we exit the room and Mrs Patel opens the door for us.
"Thank you again everyone! See y'all next month!" I say and they all cheer for me.
- later on that day -
It's now evening and the cupcakes Mingyu had specially made have been delivered to the apartment.
We're awaiting my parents and his parents's arrival.
Our wait is finally over when we hear a knock on the door.
I open the door and everyone smiles.
"Hi!!" I say and they all come inside after slipping off their shoes leaving them in socks.
Mingyu looks for slippers for them to wear while inside the house.
"You're glowing today honey,that baby's doing good things to you I can tell" my mom says smiling big.
"My my,the belly's gotten bigger" my dad says in awe as he rubs it.
"Did you find out what you're having?" Mingyu's mom asks and I nearly choke on air.
"Mingyu made dinner!" I say to cut her off and everyone rushes into the kitchen while she watches me carefully.
I go to our bedroom and close the door.
I breathe in and out slowly to calm myself down.
Mingyu comes over with 4 pairs of slippers but pauses when he sees me doing breathing exercises.
"Are you okay?" He asks me rushing over to me.
"I'm fine,your mom nearly made me have a anxiety attack!" I say.
"What did she say?" He asks.
"That if we know what are we having" I say and he sighs.
"Ah yes,my mother always wants to know before anyone else! Let's fill their bellies and then we'll surprise them okay?" He says and I nod.
We go back to the kitchen and we start serving food.
- [ after dinner ] -
we have them go sit at the living room table while we prepare dessert.
After they sit down,we serve them double chocolate frosted cupcakes.
On the outside,they look like normal chocolate frosted cupcakes.
However,inside lies a surprise for them only.
We sit down and watch as they smile before digging in.
My mom bites into the cupcakes and smiles in delight.
"The cupcake's yummy!" She says.
She glances back at the cupcake and her eyes stay staring at the middle of the cupcake.
Me and Mingyu exchange silent glances at each other while holding hands underneath the table.
"Yumi..." my mom starts.
"Yes?" I say.
"Why is the cupcake pink in the middle?" She asks.
I stay quiet.
She keeps staring at it and then she glances back at me.
Mingyu's mom rushes over to my mom.
"Let me see all this fuss!" She says and sits next to my mom.
"Ah it's probably because it's spring cupcakes! Watch!" She says.
She bites into her cupcake & she sees pink in the middle too.
"Wait-" she says before falling silent as she tries to piece it together.
My dad & Mingyu's father aka Uncle Joon cut open their cupcakes to find pink frosting oozing out of their cupcakes also.
"Are YOU HAVING A GIRL???" They all say in unison.
Me and Mingyu smile at each other before standing up.
I rub my belly and nearly choke up as the words leave my mouth.
"YES" me and Mingyu say and cheers erupt throughout the apartment.
My mom and his mom run over to us to hug us both tightly.
My dad and uncle Joon join in on the hug so they don't get left out of the group hug.
I smile big at Mingyu as he nearly tears up at the sight of all of us cheering and hugging over the news.
A little Yumi is on the way!....
