The sound of rain tapping at my window,the smell of coffee filling my senses.
It's another day here at the Jeon household.
I open my blinds a little to peek out.
I roll my eyes when I see it's pouring,like a downpour of rain.
Like as if we haven't gotten enough rain this month in New York City.
I crawl out of my bed and walk over to my bathroom.
As I'm eating my cereal after washing up in the bathroom,my dad rushes downstairs with my still half asleep mother.
He sits her down and she groans.
"Yes honey talk" she says to him.
"So babe & princess!" He starts.
"Don't call me princess anymore dad it's-"
He looks over at me.
"It's cute" I say shrugging since I can't win this argument today.
"Me & The Boys are going on a WORLD TOUR AGAIN!" He says and my mom raises a eyebrow.
"Aren't you a little too old for this right now Jeon Jungkook?" She asks him.
"Who said I'm old huh?" He asks her.
"I mean dad you fell on the steps a week ago and you couldn't get up" I say giggling and he glares over at me.
"Awh babe why didn't you tell me?" My mom says playing with his hair softly.
"Well at least I'm not old in that..department" he says winking at her.
She smirks & starts toying with his robe's strings.
"You both are gross I'm done eating" I say throwing my empty bowl in the sink.
I glance over to see them eyeing each other.
"Let me go upstairs before y'all fuck on the dining table" I say and my parents eyes go wide.
"YUMI AMORA COME BACK HERE!" My dad yells and I laugh running up the stairs.
"Where did she get that mouth from?" My mom asks him & he laughs loudly.
"Oh shut up you little shit" she says.
"THERE IT IS!" He says loudly before they both erupt in laughter.
I walk into my room & close the door behind me quietly.
I type a text for Mingyu to read later.
He's attending a frat party tonight.
He's been there 6 months and already is attending a frat party,wow.
That was fast,but I saw it coming honestly.
He's popular so naturally he's gonna be a hit at a frat party.
I'm about to press send when I get a urgent call from Emma.
"Hello?-"
"OMG WHERE ARE YOU?" She yells out.
"I-I'm home what's wrong?" I ask her and I hear her groan in pain.
"I think th-the baby is coming!!" She screams before groaning again.
"Ok hold on breathe for me Em,tell me what you're feeling rn!" I say as I scramble to grab my purse.
I slip on my fuzzy slippers.
I don't even bother to change my outfit but at least I'm not naked.
I put my sweater's hood up so it can cover my freshly straighten hair from the rain outside.
I grab my purse and run down the stairs urgently.
My parents who are now sitting on the couch watching a K-Drama stare at me confused.
"Emma's in labor" I say as I grab my father's car keys frantically.
My dad rushes to the front door after kissing my mom goodbye and we leave to meet up with Emma.
~after a while~
We arrive to the hospital and there's no signs of Ezra at all.
My heart breaks inside,I'm hoping he hasn't changed his mind & dumped her with their child alone.
I mean,she was all by herself when she went into labor.
"Excuse me ma'am..are you visiting or?-"
"I'm supposed to be in the delivery room" I say sweating profusely and my dad watches me quietly speak to the admission nurse.
"Ok ma'am I need you to take a deep breath and talk to me okay? Who are you visiting?"
"I'm not visiting anyone! My best friend is in labor and I'm supposed in the delivery room!" I say and she dials up another nurse to come over to us.
"Yes how may we help you-"
"My best friend is in labor,her baby daddy isn't anywhere at the moment so I'm the only person she has right now. I need to be in that room" I say and she sighs lowly.
"I can quietly sneak you in but you're a minor-"
"I'm 16." I say confidently.
"Still a minor by law,so...you'll be hidden next to her. What's her name?" She asks me.
"Emma Sykes" I say and she looks into the laptop.
"Room 246 good luck" she says and I smile faintly.
My dad watches me run down the corridor as I look for her room number to appear.
I end up taking a elevator when I realize the rooms 200 & up are in the second floor.
But a quiet resident joins me inside of it at the same time.
We avoid eye contact,but I accidentally drop my purse and I go to grab it.
When he reaches down and we bump heads.
"Ow!" He says and I groan holding onto my head.
"Are you okay?" He asks me hesitant to move closer to me so he stretches his arm out to hand me my purse.
I grab it from his hands & look down at the floor.
"I'm fine,just as long it's no concussion I should be fine" I say giggling nervously.
"I can check it-"
I glare up at him.
It's already so awkward and him talking isn't making things better.
"Going up as well?" He asks me and I nod silently.
He presses the 2nd floor button and the doors close to the elevator leaving us in here.
The tension building between us it's mainly from him trying to clear the air and make things less awkward meanwhile I'm still feeling a slight headache from that head bump.
He clears his throat loudly and I look at him.
"Ah finally! Eye contact!" He says
"What do you want?" I ask him crossing my arms.
"I was gonna say sorry again for that & that you look very pretty though,but I guess not-"
"As if,I'm sure that was wait what?" I say analyzing what he just said.
He looks at me and his eyes are nothing like Mingyu's,my boyfriend.
Who is in California studying law like he wanted to.
I should get out of here.
This guy's eyes are blue,but I move my face away when I notice him getting closer to me.
Nope,not today Satan!
I pull out mase and spray him.
"OMG! OMG!" He screams loudly and I panic realizing I wasn't even supposed to walk in with that,I always carry it because I walk home everyday from school & there's creeps in the neighborhood so I rather keep myself protected than risk being harassed when I am least prepared.
"I'm so sorry!" I say and he blindly reaches into his own bag.
He pulls out a water bottle & pours it directly onto his eyes.
"What the hell? I was just trying to clean your shirt! You had lint!" He says
"Who the fuck leans in like that though?" I ask him
"Excuse me that I'm a neat freak that can't stand to see anything remotely out of place or something like oh I don't know...LINT on a shirt that I have to clean it?!?!" He says
"I said I'm sorry,okay? I thought you were gonna kiss me" I say frowning.
When he finally opens his eyes again to see me.
He frowns when he sees me curled up the corner,upset at myself for creating a show in here.
"Hey. I get it,my sister is a nurse here at this hospital every night I worry about her so I have her carry that too...I'm sorry for yelling at you. I'm older and I shouldn't had done that,listen can we forget this all happened?" He says and I sigh.
"I know..you probably think I'm a weirdo but I'm just always looking for a new friend and you seemed friendly." He says
"I am friendly but cautious.." I say and he giggles.
"That's cute,well..I have to go hand this to DR. LOMANN he's delivering a baby today" he says and my eyes widen.
"Which room is he in?" I ask him.
"Room 246 why?" He asks me and I snatch his bag off of him.
"I'll see you later and explain all of this" I say as the doors open and I run out of the elevator leaving him dumbfounded.
I reach the room and open the door to find Emma crying on the bed.
"Oh Ems what's wrong?" I ask her as I place the bag in the chair for the doctor later.
"Ezra hasn't showed face,I texted him and he left me on read. I think he's having second thoughts about me & this baby" she says.
"Em,no matter if he's in the picture or not I'll help you as much as I can with the baby okay? Me & Melody are your best friends we'll never let you down okay?"
"Speaking of mel where is she?" She asks me
"She's on her way but you missy got to relax,because baby looks like she's coming soon and she needs her mommy to chill a little okay?" I say
She nods and lays back.
She holds onto my hand and as contractions hit her she squeezes the shit out of my hand.
I wince in pain and she looks over at me.
"I'm sorry" she says before another contraction hits her like a wave.
Soon enough right as the doctors start swarming in,I see a familiar face with his signature dark brown curls.
"Em,rethink what you said" I say and point over to the door when the nurse answers a loud knock on the room door.
She glances over and I watch her face change from sadness to joy so quickly.
Ezra,her loverboy has arrived.
Bearing gifts and he's all dirty.
"Where were you?" She asks him tearing up.
"I had to take some air,I had a small meltdown because I was so worried about this chapter,but I know we got this Em...you,me and babygirl are going to just fine. I need you to know I'm not going anywhere anytime soon" he says
"I hope not,because you're stuck with me forever bud" she says running her hands through his hair.
He smiles and kisses her hand.
"I'm happily yours forever" he says and takes my place.
I leave the room after giving Emma some words of encouragement,I sit outside in the waiting room as rerun cartoons play on the hospital tv.
My dad is with me texting my mom to tell her the updates on what's happening.
Hours go by and we get no word of anything yet.
So I proceed to take a nap,I fall asleep in my dads arms and he stays up waiting for the nurse.
Instead he ends up falling asleep too.
But then,at 8:15am..I wake up suddenly when I hear loud baby cries & cheers from that room.
The nurse comes out after a while and looks at me.
"Are you family of the patient Emma Sykes?" She asks me.
"Yes" I say.
Emma doesn't have much family anyway to come see her and the baby.
"Follow me!" She says and I walk with her to the same room I was in exactly 24 hours prior.
I walk into the room and I see Emma,sitting up in her hospital bed & she's nursing her baby daughter.
"This is my baby niece..." I say sitting carefully at the edge of the bed.
"Her name is Eliana Sarai Danieli,we chose to have her be the third "E" in our little family,her first name fit us so well & the middle name is a Hebrew name that Ezra's mom showed us when we visited synagogue one day when I was like 6 months pregnant" she says and I smile.
"Well I like your name Eliana! I love you so much already" I say.
"Are you hungry?" I ask her and she nods.
"Very."
"I'll grab you breakfast from downstairs,Ezra are you-"
I look over to see Ezra knocked out.
"This is just day 1 wait until it really starts when we get home" she says laughing and I walk out of the room.
I get in the elevator and go downstairs to grab breakfast,when I run into him again.
The same quirky resident that I saw last night.
"So..about last night." I say and he waits for me to continue.
"I had to go witness my best friend's birth so I took your stuff so that way I killed two birds with one stone. I apologize for that and I know I probably looked insane doing that-"
"It's no big deal honestly,but I'm quite shocked you finally apologized for once because I apologized so much yesterday,it's a nice change" he says
"Ugh,whatever" I say and as I'm about to walk away.
"Hey..my name is Andre,we should hang out somewhere that's not in a hospital perhaps?" He asks me
"Well..Andre,I have a boyfriend" I say crossing my arms across my chest.
"No no not in that way,like we can be friends you know? Get to know each other." He says
"How old are you?" I ask him and I take a sip of water from my water bottle.
"20" he says and I nearly choke on my water.
"Well as long you don't do no funny business or crazy tricks we'll be fine" I say and he smiles.
"Here's my number" he says after scribbling it onto a napkin and I grab it.
"See you soon?" He says waiting for me to answer.
"I guess I don't know-"
He walks away smiling and I roll my eyes.
I swear he's so annoying!
How can a complete stranger be so annoying?
~after a while~
We finally go home after spending a full day with Emma & Ezra,I take a shower and wash my hair.
I throw myself onto my bed wanting to fall asleep badly when I get a phone call and it's Mingyu.
"Hi babe!" I say & he chuckles.
"Hi there cutie,I'm arriving for summer break to NYC are you-"
"When is your flight coming?" I ask him cutting him off.
He laughs and I raise a eyebrow.
"What's so funny?" I ask him.
"Nothing it's just,you're so cute when you're excited" he says and I smile.
"I miss you" I say playing with a strand of my hair with my finger.
"I miss you too,I miss our cuddles and..makeout sessions" he says and I smirk.
"Mingyu!!!" I start
"My parents might hear us shut up!" I add and he chuckles mischievously.
"Well I'll be there in 2 weeks,will my favorite girl be waiting for me?" He asks me & I smile big.
"Of course,forever" I say.
Even though we're 2,896.2 miles apart from each other,it still feels like we're next door to each other.
Soon he'll be back,temporarily but it's going to be so exciting.
6 months without seeing him besides through FaceTime.
I'm going to run straight into his arms and never let go.
My mom screams for me to come downstairs and I run down the stairs.
"Yes?" I ask her & she hands me a letter.
"this letter is for Yumi Amora Jeon,this letter signifies that officially Yumi Amora is a excellent star and is now apart of shooting stars program" I read out loud and I jump up and down in excitement.
"The shooting stars program" is a school program that is for Broadway & Acting students & it's very hard to get accepted into.
I forgot that Mingyu's still on the phone & he heard me reading this.
"I'M SO FUCKING PROUD OF YOU MY SHINING STAR!" He says loudly and I blush.
"Thank you babe I love you" I say
"I love you too baby" he says.
So as you see..
Life goes on,it doesn't slow down nor does it stop entirely for anyone no matter what.
No matter the circumstances we just continue moving forward,everyday is a new chance to make it a better day than it was the day before.
My teenage years have barely began and I can't wait to see what's left of them..
This journey won't be easy,but I have a strong foundation to fall upon if anything goes wrong.
They love me for me & not for anything less of me.
