💙 • open your eyes • lindsley
all this feels strange and untrue
and i won't waste a minute
without you
the train stops. and lindsey feels her heart ache and break in her chest, her fingers cold against the cigarette in her mouth. the purple subway lights don't ease anything. as much as she wishes they did, they don't. and they will never be able to. she doesn't think at least.
my bones ache, my skin feels cold
and i'm getting so tired
and so old
hayley sighs, a melancholy smile on her lips. of homesickness and missed opportunities. a whisper of missed kisses and lonely hands. she has the body of a violia, the lips of an angel, and eyes of a dreamer. a dreamer with eyes for only the road ahead.
the anger swells in my gut
and i won't feel these slices
and cuts
"are you sure you have to go?"
"my mom's waiting for me," hayley smiles, "but i promise i'll call."
lindsey looks away, dark locks and sunken eyes closing to avoid the pain of something that could have been... that almost was...
"what's wrong?"
i want so much to open your eyes
cause i need you to look
into mine
"i'm gonna miss you," lindsey whispers.
hayley frowns, lindsey knows she does, she doesn't have to open her eyes but she does. cause she has to.
"i've gotta go."
"yeah..."
tell me that you'll open your eyes
hayley pulls lindsey in close and keeps her nose nuzzled in lindsey's chest as she takes in her perfume just one last time, "i will miss you, though."
"i know."
get up, get out, get away from these liars
cause they don't get your soul
or your fire
hayley pulls away as soon as the announcement rings.
"last call for train 228 to franklin, tennessee."
take my hand, knot your fingers through mine
and we'll walk from this dark room
for the last time
"you'll call me every wednesday at exactly 10, alright?"
"yeah, i will. i promise," hayley smiles, "as long as you remember."
"i will," lindsey musters a smile. as if she'd forget.
every minute from this minute now
we can do what we like
anywhere
hayley turns and takes a step into the train, shedding her backpack to place up in the overhead storage before she turns back to lindsey. white hair, brown eyes, bright smile, blue shirt, jeans. paint stains.
the horn honks, loud and clear, signaling the train beginning to depart.
i want so much to open your eyes
cause i need you to look
into mine
lindsey stares, unable to say anything, she's gone mute, but hayley seems as though all her opportunities are just opening up. lindsey drops her cigarette and stomps it on the ground before smiling up at hayley.
lost kisses. hands untangling. lose chances. missed opportunities. lindsey could have gone with. hayley could have stayed. lindsey could have confessed. hayley could have just hugged her one last time.
tell me that you'll open your eyes
the doors begin to close. hayley begins to turn. the smoke begins to cloud. the people begin to leave. the windows begin to shut.
lindsey feels the break coming. and she feels her hand catching hayley's before she can help it.
hayley turns. lindsey stares up. and without a second though she's pulling her forward and their lips collide, the center of the universe.
tell me that you'll open your eyes.
lindsey's fingers get tangled in the strands of hayley's hair. her eyes shut. she knows. how much it was. under awkward glances and "friends."
hayley pulls away though.
lindsey jumped.
but she fell short.
their eyes meet. and over the sound of the train horn, lindsey just barely makes it out.
"it's not like that."
tell me that you'll open your eyes.
lindsey feels the universe collapse, she's reached the sharp rocks at the bottom of the ravine. and her hand is cut off by the train door, forcing her back.
the train begins to move. and hayley.
hayley is gone.
all this feels strange and untrue
and i won't waste a minute
without you
just finished the office and all my emotions are so b a d. what the f u c k.
