Chapter Five: "I Feel Mentally Violated."
"SHUT UP," I plugged my ears, wondering why I come to this place so often. "Peter shut up you can't sing. You are making my ears bleed."
But the guy didn't shut up. Oh my goodness he wouldn't shut up. I curled up on the couch, pressing a throw pillow to my ears as he continued singing. I couldn't even decipher what song he was singing because he sounded worse than Andrew in the eighth grade.
He sounded like a cat touching water.
My ears were ringing.
What was he even saying?
Then a miracle happened.
The ugly voice stopped.
I would've cried tears of joy as I took the pillow off my ears and looked over at him.
Sam currently had his hands over his cousin's mouth and was straddling him from behind like a cowboy. Sam huffed over his struggling cousin, running a hand over the faint scruff on his face. "I question how we are possibly related."
Peter struggled to say something but Sam didn't let him go, instead he took the back of Peter leg and pulled it up in a painful move. Peter groaned, yelling into Sam's hand for him to let him go.
Sam grinned before letting his cousin go, sitting next to me on the couch. I nudged him with my elbow. "You are sadistic."
He shrugged. "I wouldn't call myself sadistic but...okay."
Peter got up, sighing heavily and brushing himself off. "Shouldn't you be at a party? Not harassing your family member?"
"Party?" I turned to Sam, confused.
He shrugged again, running a hand through his hair. "It's not that big of a deal. It's like a team bonding thing but honestly it's just a chance for half the team to get laid. They called it an intimate get together like something out of a TV show and the rest of the world calls it a party."
"Who throws a party on a Tuesday?" I asked.
"Drake. The famous one." Sam said, the same time Peter said. "Every night should be a party."
"You should go." I told him and he raised an eyebrow at me.
"What?"
"Yeah you should. I mean it would be a chance for them to understand you better rather than just staying here and being called fresh meat."
"It would be better if you were with me." He admitted.
"I don't want to intrude plus I have practice tomorrow morning and I have to study anyway." And let's face it; I wouldn't really fit in with the whole crowd thing either. I'd like the idea of having fun but being surrounded by people getting wasted or getting high and a heat wave of bodies was not the top of my list. Even in high school when my dad or my friends thought it would be a way for me to have fun it really wasn't.
Bad things always happen at parties too.
But still who threw a party on a Tuesday?
"You sure?" I nodded and he sighed, grabbing my hand to pull me in the direction of his room.
"I didn't get an apology for you manhandling me!" Peter yelled.
"You aren't going to get one you prick!" Sam yelled back. That's when Peter started singing again and I almost ran to Sam's room. The second he entered the room I closed the door to block out any sounds of Peter strangling his vocal chords.
"Was he singing Diamonds by Rihanna?" I asked Sam.
"I thought he was singing Gangnam Style."
Sam went over to his closet and pulled out some clothes, throwing them behind him. I watched him get rid of his shirt and replace it with a black v neck shirt. He took off his pants and I caught a glimpse of his boxers before he tugged on dark jeans.
He was zipping his zipper up when he looked over at me behind his shoulder. I quickly changed my gaze to the threading on his comforter. "It's okay Hazel. It's completely fine if you check me out. I do it to you all the time."
I get flustered by his bluntness but stand to hand him his leather jacket as I tug my sweater on. "I wasn't even looking at you."
"Really?" He teased, fixing the cuffs on his arms. "I'm sure you didn't notice that I was wearing white boxers."
"They were black not-"
I caught myself as he smirked, nodding slowly and taunting me with his eyes. "They were black? I'm glad you noticed."
"I hate you." I muttered, stepping back to look at him.
"I'm in love with you too." He grinned, kissing me on the cheek.
I sighed staring at him. His hair. His dark jeans. His leather jacket. The slight facial hair on his face. Yes he looked hot but I wasn't going to boast his ego and tell him that. Yet it seemed like he figured it out himself by the look on his handsome face.
"How do I look?" He waited, eagerly for what I was about to say.
"You've looked better." I mumbled, keeping my eyes on the ground.
I felt his presence near me, literally in front me of and I tried to avoid his eyes. "You're lying aren't you?"
"How would you know?"
"Because you can't look at me in the face but I'll take your word for it." He grabbed his keys, typing in something on his iPhone.
I don't think he's been to a party since the twins threw a grad party at their house back in June, I thought as we entered the elevator. Sam tapped on his phone once again as it buzzed in his hand. "It's Tuesday and no one has heard a word from Jasmine."
"No one?"
"Not even Drake anymore. It's like she disappeared from the Earth."
"Obviously she's still on the Earth," I told him, pulling up my Twitter. "She's on my notifications. She literally just retweeted something about One Direction."
"But she's not answering anyone?"
"Nope. That means something is going on. Maybe I should try calling her again." I said as we walked out of the nice condo.
"Don't. Okay? She'll talk to you when she wants to. It's normal to not hear from your friends for a while. They sometimes get caught up in things or don't want to speak to anyone right now."
"I get that. I do it's Andrew I'm worried about. She avoiding his calls not just ours but his. The long distance thing is taking a huge toll on him and he feels like they're getting separated more than they were when they left."
I felt the wind nip at my skin and I could smell the faint scent of rain that had hit the city moments before we had stepped out. That was the thing about this city. It rained. A lot.
This information was one of the things I did not mind the most because rain actually calmed me especially when it was light-a drizzle. For me it was the best time to play soccer when the sun wasn't in your eyes. Even though it felt damp and wet and depressing as everything seemed to darken, I played better in that weather.
It was weird but it was true.
Sam didn't say anything for a couple of seconds so I took the time to change the subject. "Where's the party?"
"At someone's house near campus. It's like five minutes away from your dorm."
"I would warn you not to do things but I don't have to because I'm not your mother."
"I'm not going to do much anyway. I haven't drunk alcohol since...April 8th, remember?" I did. How could I forget? "And it's not like I'm going to wait for a girl to make a move on me. If one even touches me I think I'm going to make a run for it."
"I'm glad you think that way."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sam didn't last a half an hour at that party.
Maddy and I were sitting on the ground playing a game of crazy eights. I had dropped down a Queen of spades and she groaned, picking up five. "I hate you."
"I know." I grinned just when my phone buzzed beside me.
I looked down at the screen to see a text message from Jerk <3. I typed in my password and opened up the message.
Jerk <3:
Im dying here.
Me:
What's wrong?
Maddy dropped down a pair of threes and I followed suit, placing my own three of clubs down.
Jerk <3:
I'm being sexually harassed. Should I call the police?
I knew he was joking about the police thing and I figured that he of all people would be hit on. Maddy put down a two and I rolled my eyes at her grin, picking up two from the pile.
Me:
Just tell her off.
He replied fast.
Jerk <3:
I did. Her friend finally took her away.
I put down a King of diamonds and Maddy put down an Ace of spades. My eyes widened as I noticed it was her last card and I yelled, "LAST CARD!" before she even opened her mouth.
Maddy groaned. "Oh my God Macy..."
"Love you." I told her with a grin as she picked up another card.
Then I looked down at my phone and realized Sam had sent me another text.
Jerk <3:
This is actually really boring.
(2) Can you come here?
(3)Please?♥
(4) I even added a heart emoji. I'll get you something from Nando's or McDonald's.
(5) I'll fly in something from TimHortons back home if you come here.
(6) There's another girl staring at me and I feel mentally violated.
I laughed loudly at his texts and Maddy stared at me confused over her glasses. I showed her my phone and she looked through it and cracked up with me. "You should go."
"I have practice and day filled with classes tomorrow, one of them is a lab."
"It's only eight Mace. I'll come with. You need to fight off the girls that are staring at your boyfriend."
"I'm not going to fight them." I told her as she took the cards from my hand and put the deck back to together.
"Yeah right." She muttered, going over to our shared closet. "Let's find you something to wear."
"I am not wearing a dress."
"But that would totally ward every girl off. Come on Macy."
"No." I cut her off, lying down on my bed as she continued searching.
"Okay since you're such a casual person..."
"Not really."
"I know but anyway. What about this?" I watched as she threw a pair of ripped jeans at me and along with a blue tank top.
"You do realize its cold outside and that we don't live in California, right?"
"I know that's why I found this," She threw a brown leather jacket at me and I stared at it. "When did you get this?"
"Jasmine and Stevie actually. They had dragged me to the mall and bought this for me but I never wore it because I thought I looked weird in it." I looked weird in almost everything so I think I knew what I was talking about.
"Wear it." Maddy demanded and the short girl sat down on her bed as I got off from my bed putting the clothes on.
I shrugged on the jacket and looked at myself in the full length mirror on Maddy's side. She stood beside me, our height difference majorly clear. "See you look great."
"Sure." I said sarcastically, taking my hair out of its ponytail and running my fingers through it quickly.
Maddy put on her own clothes as we left our dorm room. She knew where the party was and it was kind of obvious when once we stepped outside, the loud music could be heard all the way from here.
The townhouse was filled with people, littered with red cups and music vibrated from the house. It wasn't much of a change from the things I've seen every time I've been to a party.
I hesitated as Maddy grabbed my arm to pull me inside. "Come on Mace."
That's when I was absorbed into a house filled with people. Majority of them around my age and yes it was jam packed. Some dub step song was playing and for some reason half of the people who were in the living room found the need to pump their fist up and down in the air as if they could classify it as dancing.
Maddy snorted possibly at the same thought and I felt sticky by the heat radiating through the house.
I looked around, over the heads of most people considering my height to find Sam. When I realized he wasn't in the living room with the other people nor sitting on one of the couches, I moved to the kitchen. I turned to Maddy. "I'll be back."
She nodded and I swerved through grabby hands to go through the kitchen, already spotting the head of curly hair leaning near the counter. He had a red cup in his hand but I could tell he had not taken a single sip of but was just holding.
He had his phone in one hand and was texting on it as a girl came up to him, brown hair wavy and lashes thickened with mascara to bring out her brown almond eyes. I swallowed hastily as Tanya-for the love of God-Tanya put a hand on my boyfriend.
She can't take a hint.
I felt my phone buzz multiple times in my pocket and I looked at the texts Sam was sending, not noticing that I was near him.
Jerk <3:
Please?
(2) I even bribed you with food!!!
(3) Hazel.
(4) Hazelll.
(5) The girl you hate is near me.
(6) I can feel her eyes on me like lasers.
(7) I don't even know her name.
(8) Is it Tiffany? Hailey? Yolanda? Erica?
I laughed to myself. That wasn't close but I was happy he never paid attention to her.
I watched as he slid away from her a bit but she managed to come even closer. He looked annoyed as he responded to something she was saying, catching my eye over her head.
The annoyed on his face morphed into a small smile as he dodged Tanya as she tried to get close to him again. "Hazel." That was the voice of Samuel Cahill in despair and desperation ladies and gentlemen.
"Hey..." I said as he engulfed me in a hug, his scent of mint and apples practically flooding my system with a sense of home.
"Thank God you're here. I swear she was about to go for my belt." He whispered rashly, his lips pressed against the side of my neck.
I laughed. "Don't worry I'm here to save you my damsel in distress."
"Damsel in distress?" Sam looked at me straight in the eye. "You're joking with me right?"
"No...I was sensing your desperation and I don't think I'm kidding."
"Haha you're so funny." Sam said sarcastically.
"Macy!" Tanya said behind Sam. Sam kept his hands on my waist as he stood behind me, gaining some distance from her.
"Tanya...hi." I said, displeased.
"I didn't know you would be here." She said with a tight smile on her face.
"I didn't know you would be here." I matched her tone, the fake smile slipping off my face.
"Behave." Sam whispered against my neck.
"Only if she does." I quietly whispered back, bringing the smile back to my face.
"You guys are so cute together." She commented and I held back the biggest eye roll of my entire life. If you would think that then why the fudge would you go after him you dirty liar.
"Really?" I mocked her, lacing my hand through Sam's.
"Yeah." She said astonished. Aw thanks...now go to Tartarus.
"Sam she says we're cute." I leaned to the side to see his face, making sure he can see the hatred in my eyes.
"Okay," He abruptly said, taking the hint. "Let's go." He released me but grabbed my hand, pulling us into the living room.
"See you in the morning," I told Tanya as he dragged me out. "Make sure you don't drink much. You wouldn't want to condition on a hangover."
I actually couldn't care if she drank or not.
Sam pulled us into the crowd of sweaty bodies, both of us standing in the middle of it all. His hands were on my waist and he leaned close to talk in my ear over the loud noises. "You came."
"I'm glad you noticed." I yelled laughing as the people around us were fist pumping in the air. What was this?
"Why are you laughing?" He raised his voice as the buzz of people talking seemed to get louder.
I put my hands around his neck and threaded my fingers into his hair. "This is so stupid. How is this dancing?"
I gestured to the people around us, moving their arms up and down. Sam watched as I copied them as a joke and he started laughing too, pushing his hair back. "Yeah it's a little stupid. What? You think you can dance better?"
"Excuse me?" I asked him, narrowing my eyes.
"We've been together for almost six months Hazel and I don't think out of all those times I have ever seen you dance."
"Because I don't want you to see me dance." I admitted. It was basically a train wreck. I wasn't as dumb to fist pump to the beat though.
Sam stood still then he took his hands off my waist and took my arms off his neck, crossing his own arms. "Okay, dance."
"What?"
"Dance.For me." He grinned and I rolled my eyes. "See I knew you wouldn't do it."
"Was that a challenge?" I asked him.
"I think it was, Hazel." He said sarcastically, putting his hands on me again.
I didn't want to do this in front of him and I groaned loudly. "Can't I just continue the stupid fist pumping thing? It looks like the highlight of this lame party." I put my hands back on the back of his neck, and leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Okay." Sam said dryly and I smiled as he hugged me closer to him, moving side to side in the silence of our thoughts.
"You know I kind of like seeing the jealous side to you."
"Well you're going to see it a lot more often."
Sam nuzzled his face in the side of my neck. "I have to confess Hazel, it's pretty hot to see you like that."
My eyes widen and my face heats up even more due to the fact that was getting sticky and sweating even just standing in the middle of this crowded room, the floor vibrating underneath us.
"Uh-" My words are caught in my throat as Sam pressed his lips against mine and my eyes fall close on their own accord. At first it was merely lips brushing against each other, Sam taking his teasing to whole different direction as my level of impatience surfaces.
I wasn't one for PDA but seeing as everyone else here was captivated by the music I didn't really mind. I forgot all about everyone else as we continued kissing and I was trapped and focused on Sam. The overwhelming taste of him filled my mouth as his tongue entered my mouth skillfully sending shocks through me.
My heartbeat was hysterical as we continued, my hands roaming through his curly hair and his gripping my waist, pulling me even closer to him if that was possible. Everything was always on hyper drive when he kissed me. Every single time and I couldn't get enough. My body was on fire and it was exhilarating. I wasn't drunk. I hadn't even taken one sip of alcohol but I felt intoxicated by him. I couldn't even stop my hands from gripping his exposed t-shirt between us, skimming over his soft skin.
He groaned into my mouth, pulling away for not even a fraction before attach his lips to my neck. I wanted more. Holy crap I did, I thought my heart beating as his hands moved lower to my backside. I wanted to feel skin on skin contact and I would've let him.
I would've let him take me upstairs to one of those empty bedrooms.
I probably would've let him take my innocence in a stranger's house since my mind wasn't clear at the moment.
I would have let him do anything if we didn't hear a voice interrupt us.
Because for some weird reason destiny has always managed to have someone interrupt Sam and I.
