I wrote a message...
So, remember how back in July I sent Micky a message via Twitter? I think it's the first chapter in my "Journal" if you want to read it.
...Well, I sent one to Michael too. On Facebook:
Hi Michael. I know this is totally random—heck, you probably won't even see this—but you are one of my biggest role models and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for being persistent in what you believe in. Thank you for never giving up even when others gave you a hard time about it. I may be only 18, but I grew up in and out of the hospital for my first eight years of life, living in a home with an emotionally-abusive stepfather for the next nine, and, even though you don't know it, you gave me solace when life felt like hell. You have made me smile and laugh (I mean...c'mon, Princess Gwen is pretty iconic) on the days where I just feel like giving everything up and I honestly cannot thank you enough.
I'm not going to lie, I first found out about "Monkee Mike," and that was who I looked up to for a long time, but then I found out you were so much more than that. Everything you've accomplished, from taking creative control from Kirshner, to Listen to the Band (...which, honestly, I could write a paragraph about that song alone), to receiving the first-ever Grammy given for Music Video, to now, with the 50th anniversary and your book, is absolutely astonishing to me. I'm an "aspiring" author, but I can only *dream* of accomplishing just half as much as you have in your entire life. Honestly...I'll probably just end up with a middle-grade job somewhere in a no-name city in a state with more kernels of corn than people. Ha.
Anyway, I don't want this to be terribly long—it's pretty damn long already—but thank you again for everything. This might be kind of...well, weird for one thing...but you do honestly mean a lot to me and I just felt like I had to finally say it, even if you don't even glance at this. So, once again, thank you for everything you've done...you're one pretty cool role model, that's for sure. :)
~Britt
He probably won't read it (Micky probably didn't read his either, lol), but I feel like it had to be sent. So...
Yeah, that happened.
