The League
Six short figures were slinking out of the Hall of Justice, head's low. They muttered amongst themselves as they approached the crowd of reporters surrounding the hall.
"What's going on in there?"
"We're not allowed to talk to press at this time." Robin said tiredly, leading his less media-savvy friends towards the street.
"Have they reached a decision yet?"
"Don't know, don't care." Kid Flash replied dismissively.
Many of the cameras quickly focused on the green kid, and the boy in the superman shirt; they'd become something like cryptids in the past several months, no one even sure if they really existed until now.
"Is it true you're Superman's son?" One reporter demanded.
"Are you really Manhunter's daughter?" Another asked in almost perfect unison.
"Oh, no, I--" M'gann began.
"We don't talk to cameras." Artemis said coldly, grabbing them by the arm and towing her towards safety. "Move, guys, we're tired."
Conner winced at the glare of lenses, the flash of cameras, and the dozens of questions shouted all at once. He didn't like this. He shielded his eyes, following Kaldur closely.
"What's your name?"
"What's going on in there?"
"Please, make way for us." Aqualad fought to steer his friend through the crowd. "We cannot give you an official statement on anything at this time, please disperse."
"What's happened to Speedy?"
"Is she a Martian?"
"Please, we're not allowed to answer your questions." Kaldur begged, nearly as overwhelmed as the kryptonian was. "We've specifically been told not to talk to press without a League member present. Please, let us through."
Nearby, Robin and Kid Flash were fighting a path through the crowd. "Look, thanks for the attention, honestly, I love it," The redhead said, "But do me a favor and leave the aliens alone? They're new to this."
This seemed to do nothing but direct more attention towards the two roommates.
"What's you're name?"
"How come you haven't been introduced to the public?"
"Is he superman's son?"
"Who are you?"
"Have they been acknowledged by the pentagon yet?"
"STOP IT!" Conner snapped, covering his ears. "STOP IT!" He stamped his foot, shattering the sidewalk.
The barrage of flashes and shutter ticks halted for a split second as the people of the press stood in shock. Instantly the blitz started again at double force, and Conner was sent staggering back.
"Hey!" Artemis shot in front of one of the live broadcasts currently focused on her friend, still pulling M'gann behind her. "Leave him alone!" She gave the camera's operator two seconds to process. "I said leave him alone! Angle away before I break your foot!"
Now most of the lenses were on the girl holding a Martian's hand, threatening an innocent cameraman.
M'gann shyly pulled her hood over their face, sinking into camouflage.
"Where did she go?!"
"Please, leave us alone." Kaldur demanded, stepping between his friends and the camera. "I promise you, nothing going on inside is exciting enough to warrant this much disruption."
"Well what is happening in there?"
"Are there any more aliens we don't know about?"
"No, okay! These are all the alien's we've got! Now let us through." Wally warned.
"That's it!" Conner snapped, storming forwards and pushing through the crowd, wrenching ring lights and knocking broadcast cameras to the ground.
"Superboy!" The still camouflaged Martian yelled.
"I'm sorry about this." Robin clicked something out of his belt. He held the little pill in the air, before slamming in into the pavement.
The video got blurry from there, a grey fog taking over the lens. Batman paused the projector and turned to the teens.
"A cracked walkway, threatening a member of the press, damage to commercial broadcasting equipment, using a smoke bomb on civilians..."
"B..." Dick muttered.
"I can't--" Batman paused, "I can believe this." He strode past the line of nervous teens. "I have never been so--" He stopped, scoffing gruffly. "I'll leave your punishment up to Black Canary and Red Tornado, but just know, the league has been put in a very awkward position thanks to you" and that was putting it lightly, not only did they have to explain two undocumented teenage aliens, but now they had to publicly apologize for their children's behavior. Let's just say that many of them were grateful for the anonymity of the mask.
"Guess you'll be running drills outside in the sun tomorrow." Dinah said, arms crossed. "Make sure you bring your water bottles."
Bruce sighed, they'd tried to soft-open the team to the public, not disclosing any details of their work, but just getting ahead of the 'undocumented aliens' rumor. Thanks to the team, now everyone knew Ms. Martian and Superboy existed, and the League were caught trying to hide it. Embarrassing wasn't the word, Luthor would have a media conglomerate field day with this. A secret team of child soldiers who threatened and assaulted the press was not the look they'd hoped for.
"I'm sorry, sir." Kaldur said softly, it seemed sincere, not that sincerity helped Bruce right now. "We were only trying to protect ourselves."
Batman frowned. He understood the reaction, he'd had it as Bruce Wayne, protecting Dick from those vultures. Still, when they were in costume, they represented the league, they represented justice and morality, and they could not sully that image. "I'll take that into consideration." he growled. "Dismissed."
