"August evenings are especially stricken with melancholy — as if the ghosts of all past summers come rushing to haunt my heart."

And she remembers him with a homesickness that she feels from heart to stomach, how the wistful memories torment her in every waking moment. The distance between them pales in comparison to the yearning in her soul to return to the azure spring skies of their youth, where the cherry blossom petals fall in tandem to their laughs. The spaces between her fingers are empty now and her arms wrap only around herself. How bitter it is to be the only one to remember what it was like when the world had been whole and perfect.

"In your absence, I grasp desperately for anything, hoping it speaks to my soul as you once did, but it never does. It never will. You were one of a kind."
