EXPLANATION

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you sooo much for all the precious reads, votes and comments!! Each one of them are appreciated and mean a lot to me. I'm so grateful for the support 💜

Now that the story has finally ended,
(even though it had somewhat bittersweet ending but I think it was pretty satisfactory, right? But I'll come to that later.)
What I wanted to say is, I know there must be a lot of unanswered questions and/or confusions considering the format and theme. So I decided to make this detailed explanation chapter to clear out everything :D

===================

🌸

TIME SETTING

1. Prologue

I guess it is pretty clear, the prologue is set in the time when Yoongi and Jimin were still in elementary school. It is a significant memory for them, since it was the last time they saw each other as little kids before Yoongi moved to Daegu.

2. Chapters 1-21

This is set in the time when they are in middle school. Yoongi is still in Daegu and Jimin is soon transferring to Jeju island. That's why he wanted to meet up with Yoongi one last time.
Here, in every chapter Jimin is slowly reading parts of the final letter Yoongi sent to him and reminisces of their past days. - Their growing up together, special moments as well as how he was doing now.

Lines in this font
consist of Yoongi's letter which Jimin is reading. That's why it starts with 'Dear Park Jimin' is chapter 1 and ends with 'From - Min Yoongi' in chapter 21. It's the last ever letter exchanged between them that was sent as a reply to a letter Jimin had sent few days back (telling about his transfer and desire to meet up).

Meanwhile lines in this font
can basically be considered Jimin's thoughts of memories which he is reminiscing as he reads the letter.

And lines in this font
I used them in two of the chapters I think. They indicate Jimin's memories about few random parts of Yoongi's past letters he had sent to him over the years.

3. Chapters 22-30

They take place on a prominent event. The particular day when Jimin was going to finally meet Yoongi in Daegu.  Jimin's transferring to Jeju also happens to be on that day, just few hours ahead of his schedule with Yoongi. The narrative is quite clear and in accordance here so I don't think any explanation is needed.

4. Chapters 31-45

These are set in their highschool days.
This was a quite interesting change in pov as most of the story is from Jimin's perspective.

This font was used
because its now Taehyung's point of view, a native Jeju boy who fell for Jimin in middle school after his moving to that island. Taehyung has a beautiful but unrequited love for Jimin which he tries to deal with over the chapters along with glimpses of his own life.

One special chapter was back to this font
which was Jimin's pov about everything around him. It showcases the contrast how Jimin is the perfect man in Taehyung's eyes and he is totally unaware how much Jimin is empty inside.

5. Chapters 46-50

Taking place in a random day of Jimin's adulthood. It starts with a dream he had of the past, and narration of present situation and his loneliness. Later, he goes to cafe and is then on his home back after breaking up with Jungkook, wondering about him and the dream.

6. Epilogue

Finally the most important part of the story. It's THAT brief magical moment which is basically a recreation of the prologue if you noticed. Jimin is on his way looking at the cherry blossoms of spring when a very familiar incident occurs as he crosses the platform. The difference being, Yoongi didn't wait for him this time.
This incident gives Jimin the motivation and acceptance he was unknowingly needing to move ahead in life.

THEME

This plot revolves mainly around the romance and slice-of-life genres. Unlike a fairy tale love story with happily ever after endings, the story deals with realistic phases of life where things don't end up as desired. Yoongi and Jimin's romance consist the themes of childhood sweethearts, separation, grieving over memories and finally acceptance and moving on. And Jimin couldn't do the last ones.
As side plots, it also covers Taehyung's unrequited love which he has acknowledged at last, and Jimin's emptiness as an adult. At the point where he couldn't even identify the cause, let alone the cure. But finally, in the very last moment, Jimin does. He realises something very important which gives him hope. Because even after everything, life still goes on, yeah?

There is also a lot of symbolism in the story. As the title and description, most is about cherry blossoms of course. But I won't be telling about it so to not spoil everything.
This is where I would like the readers' imagination to relate between the small symbolic instances to the plot and theme :)

ENDING

Ahh the ending finally! I left it as a big cliffhanger that definitely demands answers hehe. As I said, the ending was bittersweet but satisfactory. Yoonmin didn't end up together but Jimin found what he was lacking to live. I'll explain how. There are two reasons.

1. What did Jimin realise when Yoongi didn't wait for him?

After their final meeting in Daegu, as Jimin grew older, he knew they aren't going to end up together. But like everyone, he had that tiny corner in his heart which unconsciously wondered if Yoongi still loved him like he did. If Yoongi missed him as dearly as he did. And if that was true, would there be a chance of them mingling their paths together someday. Ever since moving, he never got to hear Yoongi's side, so he didn't know Yoongi's feelings, which in a way prevnented him from moving on.
So when Yoongi didn't wait for him when the train passed even though he did recognise Jimin for he had glanced a bit, he knew Yoongi had already moved on. Yoongi looked happy and healthy, which made Jimin more than content to see him so. And now it was time for him to stop grasping at false realities and get his shit together.

2. What weight was removed off Jimin's heart which made him smile?

This is the bigger reason for how Jimin's life had turned out to be. He wasn't even aware of it, he believed it must be just the first reason. But this one was actually bounding him so that particular part of him couldn't afford to move on from Yoongi, unless it was fulfilled.

The promise he made with Yoongi.

In the prologue, Jimin promises Yoongi to walk under cherry blossoms in spring together the next year. But due to Yoongi's transfer he couldn't. When he visits Yoongi in Daegu, it was a cold winter day and no traces of spring. He would always be bitter they couldn't do the last thing that Yoongi wished.

Thus, without even realising, Jimin was holding on to that empty promise. He knew he had to move on, he wanted to move on but couldn't. Therefore, in highschool, he typed messages to Yoongi in his drafts and sadly smiled upon them. But never sent because he didn't want the emotions to come back. He really wanted to move on, but couldn't.

And not knowing why brought all the loneliness, emptiness and negative feelings in his adult life. Even after having everything a common man needs in life - job, house, car, romantic partner - he couldn't get used to reality.

In the last scene, Jimin crosses paths with Yoongi. In spring. Under the cherry blossoms. When Jimin looked up at the pink flowers after Yoongi was gone, he realised they just walked under the cherry blossoms together. The promise holding him towards Yoongi was fulfilled!
And that fact relieved a huge burden of unacknowledged emotions from him in that moment. Maybe this was why he had that dream. Now he could finally move on over Yoongi as he gained a newfound liveliness - hope for life.
These thoughts made Jimin smile as he walked towards his own, separate path.
