Chapter 11
"This drink is superb sweetheart we should get some for later," she said softly taking another sip.
"If you like it that much get your glass darling," he said with a mischievous smile.
"But I like yours better," she said biting her lower lip.
"Mel don't do that baby, we have guests," Linc murmured against her lips knowing Chris was getting frustrated from their PDA.
"Okay," she said pulling away from him only to lean back placing a hand on his neck and start playing with his hair.
"Close your eyes and open up," he commanded.
Closing her eyes she took a bite of the steak he offered, her taste buds becoming excited at the reception of such exquisite food. She moaned out loud only to open her eyes and see Chris shift uncomfortably in his chair making her smile. Looking at Linc's plate she heard him chuckle as her plate arrived in the same order as his.
"You never seem to fail me, baby," she smiled.
"Failure is never an option when it comes to you my love," he smiled handing her his glass before the waiter came and topped it up.
Taking her hand underneath the table, he gave a light squeeze. She gasped out loud making Chris look at her in question as Lincoln leaned towards her, murmuring nonsense into her ear making her giggle.
"Lincoln," she cried out giving him a playful slap as she leaned towards him placing a hand on his forearm.
"Forgive me Chris where were we? Oh right, you are working with Cameron on the program," he said as Cameron settled down.
"You never mentioned what this program of yours is called," Cameron stated.
"You know what you are right Cameron," Linc said placing his arm behind her chair slowly caressing her shoulder as Chris watched.
"What is the name of your program Chris?" Mel asked him snapping him out of his daze.
"I, um, don't have one yet."
"Why don't we call it Melinda," Cameron pitched. "In honour of the beautiful woman sitting in front of us."
"I like your thinking Cameron," Linc said taking Mel's hand.
"Please gentlemen anything else but my name will suffice," Mel said turning to look at Linc.
"Nonsense, we will use your name. Right, Chris?" He asked him with a serious expression.
"Yes of course," he mumbled with a nervous smile.
"Shouldn't Zach be here by now?" Mel asked him.
"He should be arriving soon. We have to go shopping for our trip."
"What trip?"
"Oh, that's a surprise love."
"Please tell me," she said in a husky voice running a finger down his jaw. "Please darling," she murmured pulling him towards her.
"I...I..should get back to work," Chris said standing up.
"Of course. I hope we didn't make you mess up your busy schedule," Linc said faking concern as Chris said, "No not at all."
-----------
"Thank you for your help Cam," Linc laughed once Chris was out of the restaurant.
"Sure thing Linc."
"Wait you two know each other," Mel asked surprised.
"Yes love, Cam here was more than happy to help us with putting Chris in his rightful place when I asked him for help."
"Way to go, Mel, I see you upgraded to a better man," Cam laughed.
"For your information, Linc and I have known each other way longer than you and I have known each other," she smirked.
"Yeah yeah, whatever Mel," he laughed. "Now if you will excuse me, I have a company to run. I should leave you two to finish your love affair," he said leaving with a smile.
--------------
"Tell the chef his meal was superb," Mel mentioned as the waiter cleared away their table.
"Of course mam. Shall I get you anything else?"
"Not at the moment," she said turning to Linc. "Is there someone we are waiting for?"
"Yes sweetheart," he said standing up.
Zach yelled in excitement as he ran towards their table throwing his arms around the already waiting Lincoln.
"Now we may leave," he said pulling her to his side as she greeted her son.
-----
"You never told me where we are going?"
"Hawaii," he stated as her eyes widened in shock.
"But we don't have clothes and Zach has school," she said worriedly.
"Everything is taken care of love," he said as they pulled up to his parents' house.
Leading her to his old room he handed over a bag and told her to get dressed. A few minutes later Megan and Rebecca came into the room to help her get dressed in a cream-coloured dress.
"What's going on here?" She asked puzzled only for the ladies to walk out leaving her alone once she was dressed.
"Mel come on now," Cameron called outside her door.
Opening the door she found him standing with white roses in his hands.
"For you madam," he said with a slight bow before taking her hand.
Heading to the back she saw a candlelit pathway that led towards Linc who stood in front of a priest. Beside him stood Ethan and across was Megan and... Charlotte her best friend aside from Cameron. His parents were seated with Zach.
"What's going on Cameron?" She whispered as he took a step forward pulling her along.
"Breathe Mel. You will thank me for this one day," he said with a smile.
Going through the motions in a daze she realized they had just got married when Linc planted his lips on hers.
"Trust me, Mel," he murmured against her ear as everyone congratulated them.
"Who knew the next time we would meet was on your wedding day," Charlotte said hugging her only for Cameron to pull her towards him.
"Who knew indeed," she said giving Linc a sly smile. "So you two finally hooked up," she laughed as her friend blushed.
"Yes," he finally grew up and asked me out after making a fool of himself around me," Charlotte said looking at her husband with adoration.
They went on to enjoy the celebration thankful that it was only family present to witness their union.
"May I dance with my wife," Linc asked for my hand from his brother who had been telling me more of his crazy stories.
"Of course brother," he said giving Mel a wink. "You owe me a dance at the next party," he said leaving us.
"You look ravishing as always Mrs Shields."
"Why thank you, dear husband," she said shyly resting her head on his chest as they danced.
"Are you okay with this?" He asked gently.
She nodded her head as he released the breath he had been holding in.
"We should be leaving love," Linc said huskily noticing that she was tired.
"Okay let me just see your mom before we leave."
------
"Tone down on the gifts, I know you like to spoil him," she said to Ethan.
"Hey it's not me alone, tell the old folks," Ethan complained.
"It's not our fault we only have one grandchild to spoil," Rebecca countered with a smile making Ethan groan.
His parents had been pestering him about marriage ever since Linc announced his engagement.
"Are you ready?" Linc asked her.
"Yes," she whispered giving her son one last hug.
------
Once they arrived at the airport paparazzi swarmed around them asking them about their marriage.
"Don't these people ever sleep? How did they find out?"
"Well I might have leaked it out, so a certain someone knows not to try anything," he said looking at her with a gleam in his eyes.
"Well played Mr Shields."
"Well I do try my best Mrs Shields," he laughed pulling her close as he wrapped his jacket around her as his men cleared their path.
"I was wondering why we used the main entrance instead of the back."
"All for this very reason love," he said as they headed to his plane.
"Would you like anything to drink Mrs Shields?" The attendant asked.
"No thank you," she sighed as the attendant left swaying her hips in her short skirt.
"There should be a policy against certain attire," she mumbled under her breath.
"Hmmm," Linc answered lazily looking up from his phone.
"Nothing dear," she sighed giving him a warm smile.
