Chapter 5 (i think)
Chapter 5: Everything Goes Wrong. Again.
Everything exploded. The walls collapsed, the floor splintered, and what glass was left on the windows shattered. The chandelier Nex was hanging on fell, and thankfully she backflipped off quickly.
"Well...I never said it always worked." Nex said with a sheepish grin.
Ainsley sighed. "Yeah. Some other time. I guess."
I rolled my eyes and turned to Nex. "Why did everything explode? Was it some kind of malfunction?"
Nex shrugged. "Honestly, I have no idea. It just happens sometimes. Actually... most of the time." she paused," I killed my boyfriend trying to use it."
She started to cry, and Enzo rushed over to her, hugging and comforting his sister. "Shh, shh, it's ok. it's alright. It was an accident, it wasn't your fault. We'll find someone with a healing gift, they'll be able to help. We'll find someone soon. Shh, calm down."
" I...I...wait. You know what? Why the heck am I crying about that right now?" she dried her tears as she sniffled. "Oh my god I'm such a mess. I forgot to ask you guys. Why are you guys here?"
"What's all that racket?" a man yelled as he walked down the stairs. He was middle aged, and was wearing a shirt that read 'Boston' in big, bold letters.
"Uncle Mac!" Enzo shouted. It was his uncle who supposedly owned the basement full of weapons. I just realized that was the whole reason why we were here in the first place. "Oh yea! We have to see the basement. Do you mind if my friends and I have a look?"
"No, go on ahead. Just don't touch anything on your way down! And yes, you can borrow whatever you want. BORROW." Uncle Mac said while he emphasized the word "borrow".
It was then that I saw his eyes. They were as red as a ruby, with gold flecks. I gasped quietly, but Nex heard me. She gave me a weird look, then ran back up the stairs, probably going to her room. Uncle Mac lead us down to the basement, and then slammed the door.
"Well, at least we know how he feels about us." Ainsley mumbled. Enzo patted her on the back sympathetically, then started running down the stairs to the basement.
"Well, are you coming or not?" He yelled when he reached the bottom. Ainsley rolled her eyes, and followed him. Bryce and I walked down into the basement. I could tell it was a pretty old one, too. There were cobwebs and wallpaper scraps on the floor. Old shelves and boxes were against the wall and the pavement floor was dirty and filled with bugs.
"Eww!" Ainsley squealed.
Bryce snorted, " Oh come on, don't be such a coward. You'll get over all the muck and scum. Just you wait. We still haven't gotten to the weapons yet. Right Enzo?"
"We're almost there, guys," Enzo said as he followed his uncle. Then up ahead, I could make out what seems to be a shelf with lots of old rewards on it. For some reason, it was the only shelf not covered in dust and cobwebs. Enzo tilted what seemed to be a 'Best Player' award. All of the sudden the wall behind it turned around and revealed a dark hallway leading to a small patch of light. There was no kind of light in the hallway itself. "Come on, guys. This is the best part." Enzo whispered with a smile. He jogged down the erie hallway as the rest of us slowly, and cautiously, walked.
As we entered the door at the end of the hall, I thought that I was being recruited to become a spy, with all the weapons and gear in that room. All the weapons were either on display cases, shelves, the wall, on table tops, or even scattered about on the floor. There was one that caught my eye in the corner of the room. A small black throwing dagger in an individual display case with lights seemed to stand out from all the other weapons. But I tried to set my mind to something else. I continued to walk around until I noticed Bryce was staring anxiously at the wall.
"Um, Bryce? Are you ok?" I asked him.
"Something was on this wall. There was something here. Why is it gone?" He muttered.
"Hey! Find something you like?" Enzo asked. "Bryce? Dude what in the-" He froze, staring at the wall. " It's gone."
