AMBER SAT IN FRONT of a mirror, plaiting her new purple hair, as she hummed a small tune. It was currently 8:30 am, leaving the girl half an hour to get to the orphanage to discuss its future. A knock interrupted the mild silence, Amber glanced towards the open door that Steve was precariously leaning against and turned back towards her mirror.
"Can I come in?" The man asked hesitantly.
"That's rhetorical Steve, You'll come in, no matter what I say" Amber replied bluntly, rolling her eyes subtly. She was still mad at him from last night, he shouldn't have acted like a 'responsible' parent.
"I like your hair" Steve began, attempting to break the silence and awkwardness between the two. He looked around the room and was taken aback at the lack of pictures and decorations that had once used to be stuck all over the walls.
"I missed it," Amber said softly, finishing off her braids, "It makes me feel more like myself".
"I see you took your pictures down" Steve continued, sitting beside the girl on her bed.
Amber gulped slightly and looked down, "I'd rather not have a constant reminder of those I've/we've lost." She told him truthfully. Steve nodded in understanding.
"Is there a point to this conversation? Because I have a meeting in ten minutes" Amber huffed, gathering up her notebook, which she'd spent all of the night creating notes for the orphanage.
"I-I just wanted to say sorry. For everything" Steve sighed, "All of us are stressed".
"I know, I know" Amber replied, she stood up and hugged the man quickly, "I'm sorry, but I really have to go.." The girl sped out of the room, leaving a dumbfounded Steve behind.

"I'VE BEEN THINKING, about the living situation" Amber started, leaning against one of the baron desks. The room was filled with all the staff members that worked in the faculty.
"As it is quite visible, we're running out of space here and honestly, more staff will need to take night shifts. The number of kids abandoned are growing significantly by the day, the only way to solve this problem is to be organised. Which is why, I have come up with a solution for the housing situation" The girl continued.
"How?" Ms. Morley spoke up, "We can't expand, we don't have the money or time".
"But we can extend." Amber reasoned with a smile, she flipped over a page in her notebook, "The number of abandoned houses on this street alone is ten. So what if we use them, I could get permission for them to be used. We could get 10-15 kids and one member of staff per house".
The members of staff looked enlightened but confused, if that was even possible. Ms. Morley looked deep in thought.
"I've done the financial research and we can afford it. The kids deserve to feel like they have some sort of family- like figures and I believe, if everyone cooperates we can make this work" Amber finished.
Ms. Morley nodded slowly, "You're right, it could work. If we can afford to do it, I think we should give it a go" she said, breaking the silence.
"Another thing, a new rota for shifts will be put into place. Every morning at eight, I will arrive and help out, at 4 o'clock in the evening I will have to leave, to try help out my team". Amber added, "I think that's all. Meeting adjourned".
The girl turned her back on the staff to gather her notes, as they went to help the kids. Amber looked around cautiously before sneaking upstairs to the mini hospital wing the orphanage had set up.
The girl looked around at the crowded beds, full of coughing and sick kids. Amber bent down beside a young boy who was reading an Avengers comic strip. The sick boy looked up, his eye widening at seeing her.
"Hello" Amber greeted with a soft smile, as the boy fumbled to hide his avengers memorabilia.
"Y-Yo-You're Wisteria!" The boy stammered in glee, as he fumbled to sit up.
"Call me Amber, and you are..?" The girl replied, putting her hand out.
"Luke" The boy grinned, stretching his hand and shaking it.
"Well Luke, what are you doing up here, huh?"
Amber asked, glancing around at all the quiet kids.
"I broke my leg playing ball with Levi, by the way, He cheated so that means I won" Luke prided, with a big grin.
"I did not cheat!" A boy scoffed from behind the girl. Amber stood up straight, and faced the boy.
"You must be Levi, I'm-" Amber begun, stretching her hand out for him to shake.
"-The reason we're orphans? Yes. Yes you are" the boy responded curtly, his tone cold and grim.
Amber looked down slightly, lowering her arm "I-I think I'm just going to go..." the girl murmured, "Sorry". She ruffled Lukes hair and turned to leave.
"Are they even trying?" Levi called, hollowly after her.
"Excuse me?" Amber replied turning back around to face the two boys.
"Are they even trying to bring people back?" He said weakly, running a hand through his hair.
Amber closed her eyes for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and replying. "Yes. We are trying. Not just for the people we lost but for everyone else too".
"You lose someone close?" Levi questioned, as Luke went back to reading his comic.
Amber nodded slowly, "I lost my only remaining family" she told him, "Now if you would please excuse me, I really have to go find a girl who's awaiting my return". With that, Amber turned once more, and retreated down the small staircase leading to the girl dorms.
"AMBER!" Lizzie cried out, running towards the girl with her arms up.
Amber laughed and picked up the little girl, "Hey Liz!" She muffled, as the younger girl hugged her tightly, "Tell you what, let's go on a little adventure. I need to clear my head".
"An adventure?" Lizzie asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Yeah! I can get permission to take you out for a few hours" Amber mused, as the girl in her arms bounced in excitement.
Lizzie yelled in excitement as Amber places her back onto the ground, letting her run off to grab a coat as the older girl went off to tell Ms. Morley.
