Brick by brick, we build a wall

A barrier that is high and tall

To keep out things big and small

Or maybe just to hold it all.

A wall to protect our fragile heart

Afraid of again being torn apart

So high we raise the rampart

That we miss a chance to restart

The wall does keep sorrow away

But it does also keep joy at bay
