Okay, i'll admit it, I have no self control whatsoever and i really wanna know what you guys think of this so here's the first chapter.
(Also, to everyone whom i might have told that i wouldn't have posted this until i finished one of my other stories, you saw nothing.)
The next day Virgil was startled awake by the sound of loud voices in the hallway that made him jump up and try to get into a sitting position; his whole body ached in protest, making him groan in pain. It probably wasn't the best idea to move around so abruptly with two broken ribs, a neck brace and several other injuries.
He took a second to regain his breath before fumbling for the bed's remote, bringing the back rest up.
"ROMAN, COME BACK HERE! You can't just keep stealing all the chocolate puddings!" A woman voice yelled just as his door opened and quickly slammed closed, a guy in crutches and holding a big plastic bag leaning back against it, his eyes closed and his breathing labored.
Virgil stood stock still, eyes wide in surprise as he stared at the man in front of him: he was tall and slim, dressed in grey sweatpants and a simple red hoodie that went perfectly with the deep red beanie he wore on his head, which seemed to be concealing a mop of light brown curls, judging by the few hanging out on his forehead.
"Uhm... Hi?" He said, unsure on how to get the guy's attention.
Immediately his eyes snapped open, zeroing on Virgil and taking his breath away. He didn't think he had ever seen more beautiful eyes in his life: deep pools of turquoise were staring right into his common boring brown eyes, and Virgil felt like he would drown if stared even for just a second too long.
"Hey! You must be new here!" The stranger said, his face now completely lit up by a bright smile.
The singer tensed up slightly, waiting for the realization of who he was talking with to sink in. For him to freak out; he was pretty much used to it by then, since he got in he had already seen two nurses completely freaking out over him despite doing their best to conceal it; seeing one more person do the same wouldn't have come as a surprise.
"What's your name?" The man asked instead, the bright smile never leaving his face but getting imperceptibly brighter at the look of surprise adorning the other's.
"Uhm, Virgil?" He was confused and his voice was a bit wary, making the intruder chuckle gently.
"You don't seem all that sure." He said as he slowly sat down on the ground, a small groan leaving him.
There was a bit of silence as the mysterious guy rummaged through the bag for a second, before taking out a cup of chocolate pudding and a small spoon.
"So. Is your name Virgil or...?" He asked after having eaten a spoonful of the dessert, pointing at him with the plastic utensil.
Virgil chuckled slightly, immediately regretting when a jolt of pain in his chest made him hiss.
"Fucking hell, this hurts!" He whined, "But yeah, the name's Virgil."
They exchanged a small smile before once again there was a bit of silence. The singer didn't know why he still hadn't questioned the stranger that randomly irrupted into his hospital room, at the early time of 8 am; it just felt so... natural. Everything around that guy seemed relaxed and serene, he acted as if he owned the place and just had this elegant, almost regal bearing.
"Like what you see pretty boy? Don't take it in all at once." He teased suddenly, making the singer's face tint a bright shade of red.
"I-I...I wasn't- It's not... I, uhm...."
"Chill out dude. I was just joking." The stranger interrupted his stumbling, a small amused laugh hidden in his voice, before adding, "I don't mind the attention."
Virgil flushed even redder, the tips of his ears burning as the other almost fell to the ground laughing.
"Aw, is the big, emo rock star really that easily flustered?" He teased.
Virgil sputtered, his eyes moving wildly around the room, his face remaining red as ever, "oh please, I'm not flustered I'm just-"
He stopped, his eyes going wide as the realization of what the guy had said hit him. He slowly turned his head to look at the stranger as the other just smirked cheekily, taking another spoonful of pudding in his mouth.
"What? You really thought I didn't know who you were?" He laughed, and Virgil couldn't help but glare at him.
Who did he think he was? This random guy had broken into his room at 8am on a Saturday morning, waking him up and was now making fun of him, and it was really starting to irritate him.
"Dude, you should really see your face right now," He laughed, "Why do you look so mad? I just thought you would have appreciated someone treating you normally instead of freaking out on you."
Virgil huffed, raising an eyebrow at him. "You really think you're that funny? Because you're really just annoying."
The guy laughed again, boisterously and loudly.
"Oh I don't think I'm funny, love. I think I'm hilarious." He winked, making the other's cheeks dust pink, much to the singer's dismay.
"Mh, I think you mispronounced the word 'asshole' there." The emo guy shot back sharply making the other laugh and hum amusedly, not looking up.
There was once again a pause, the only sound being the beeping of Virgil's heart machine and the scraping of the stranger's spoon in the plastic cup.
"Mh, fair enough," He chuckled softly, slowly getting up with a small groan, using his crutches as support, "But you'll learn to love me, everyone does."
This time it was Virgil turn to laugh, the sound interrupted by a small whimper as his ribs protested. "Trust me, I won't. I don't like arrogant and annoying pricks who know nothing about boundaries."
At this the curly haired guy did nothing but smirk, looking at the singer up and down with a stare that caused Virgil's cheek to grow red once again.
"I'll give you a year." He stated firmly. "A year, then you'll be head over heels for me. Only because you seem like the stubborn type."
He turned around, leaving a gaping Virgil behind him as he went to open the door. The singer wasn't expecting such an answer and was just opening and closing his mouth, trying to think of something smart to say, but nothing came out.
Finally, just as the guy was about to exit the room, he managed to get out a question.
"Just who the hell are you?" He breathed, brows furrowed.
The other turned around smirking, an eyebrow raised. "Thought that Nancy shouting after me was enough of a clue." He said, turning around and stepping out of the room, before looking back, smiling, "My name's Roman, but everyone here knows me as the King. I'll see you around Emo."
And with that, Virgil was left to stare at a white door.
Almost an hour passed before the door opened again, Patton stepping in with a cart full of trays of food.
"Ah, kiddo! You're already up! How're you feeling?" He asked cheerily.
Virgil blinked a couple of times, trying to step out of his thoughts that, much to his dislike, were filled with Roman's image and their short interaction from earlier.
"Kiddo? Anyone home there?" Patton asked concerned when he didn't receive an answer, as he put the tray on the small movable table and brought it over to the bed.
"Uhm, yeah," the singer said, shaking his head as much as he could with the brace on and looking up at him with a small smile, trying to reassure him. "Yeah, I..." He stopped, looking away for a second, unsure on how to introduce the topic. "I met the 'king' earlier."
Patton made an 'o' face, his eyes betraying a glint of amusement as a small smile played on his lips.
"Oh, I see." He said softly. "And what did you think?"
Virgil scrunched his nose, picking at the food on the tray as he tried to will his blush down just thinking about the guy.
"He's annoying." He stated, making the nurse laugh cheerily, the red on the singer's cheeks not escaping his ever carefully observant gaze.
"Don't worry kiddo. He has that effect on everyone, he's a charmer. No need to feel shy."
"I'm not feeling shy!" He snapped, his ears going red, "He's annoying. And arrogant." He stated pouting and looking down.
Patton shook his head, with a small laugh.
"Sure, kiddo." He finished fixing a few things around the room, before going back to the cart and pushing it out of the room, leaving the singer alone once again, "Whatever makes you sleep at night."
