"Axel, there are about a million reasons you cannot have cake every day."
"But-"
"Don't make me list them off on my fingers!"
Jesse stifled a chuckle, listening to the endless arguing of Axel and Olivia behind her. The argument started with Axel needing to buy himself a new jacket that isn't filled with holes – now it's turned into a debate on whether cake is good for breakfast or not. Jesse didn't try to question the logic in that.
"Jesse!" Axel's voice was all of a sudden right beside her.
"Could you please come back me up in this argument with Liv?"
"Oh no." Olivia said, waving her finger at Axel. "Don't get Jesse to fight your battles for you! Besides, I'm sure Jesse agrees with me. Right Jesse?"
Jesse laughed, holding up her hand and shaking her head. "I'm not getting involved in this one."
Axel and Olivia looked disappointed for a second, before resuming their bickering. This time Jesse heard something about apples. What? Weren't they talking about cake a few minutes ago?
Jesse just shook her head, shifting Reuben to her other arm as the one he was currently resting on was getting sore. The piglet opened his eyes, looking up at her sleepily before nestling his snout back into Jesse's chest and falling asleep again.
Jesse's eyes wandered around, wondering what they should do next. They've been spending time in town all day and her feet was getting sore of walking. Still, she didn't feel like heading home. Maybe they should visit the park?
Something bright caught Jesse's eye. She turned her head, noticing it was a banner. It hadn't been there when they walked by earlier, meaning it must have been recently put up. The banner's content was what caught her attention however.
"Guys!" Jesse gasped, gesturing wildly with her free hand. "Look!"
Axel and Olivia broke off mid-sentence as Jesse all of a sudden bolted towards the building. It didn't take them long to notice the banner as well however, running after her in excitement.
"The Order of the Stone!" Jesse said in excitement, pressing her face right up to the poster.
"Are they coming to town?" Olivia asked excitedly.
Jesse's eyes scanned the poster at the speed of light, trying to read and take in the information as quickly as possible. Her face fell slightly.
"Yeah, apparently there'll be a showing in town-centre next week. Pricey tickets though."
Olivia stepped up closer as well, narrowing her eyes as she read the small text. She bit her lip, nodding. "Yeah, that's completely out of the question. No way we can afford that."
"We could sneak in?" Axel suggested.
Olivia looked at him with a shocked expression while Jesse just snorted in attempt to stifle her laughter.
"Do you want us to get arrested?" Olivia asked Axel, crossing her arms.
"Do you have to be such a drama queen?" Axel muttered under his breath, much to Olivia's annoyance.
"You three crowding this wall for any specific reason?" A familiar voice asked in a sarcastic tone.
Jesse giggled, finally pulling her gaze away from the poster. "Hey Petra." She greeted the familiar redhead.
Petra leaned slightly to the side so she could look past Jesse at whatever was on the wall.
"Never knew you were fans of the Order?" She said, adjusting her pickaxe she had resting on her shoulder.
"We're practically some of the biggest fans!" Axel bellowed proudly, making Olivia flinch.
"Way to exaggerate Axel." She muttered under her breath.
"Will you guys be attending this?" Petra asked, gesturing towards the banner.
"Wish we could." Jesse admitted, longingly looking over at the poster. "But it's way too expensive."
Petra rolled her eyes. "Do you have to see them to be satisfied? Tickets are straight up a waste of money! Just do what I do – hang around the area, close enough to hear everything. Sound through those microphones travel far distances!"
"I never thought of that!" Jesse admitted. "No wonder I've never seen you at one of their showings!"
"We should totally do that!" Axel said excitedly, hopping up and down on the spot.
"Yes!" Olivia agreed. "I'll finally be able to take notes of Ellegaard's speech without worrying about people bumping against me!"
"Seriously?" Axel rolled his eyes. "What is it with you, always admiring the nerd of the group?"
"You have a problem with Ellegaard?" Olivia asked, putting her hands on her hips, her voice raising a few pitches.
"Not really. She's just not nearly as cool as Magnus!" Axel replied, crossing him arms.
"Not now, you two." Jesse scolded, once again shifting Reuben's sleeping weight to her other arm. "I'm slowly getting tired of having to break up these arguments."
Olivia huffed, crossing her arms as well. Axel's face lid up on the other hand.
"We're like our own Order!" He said excitedly. "Olivia and I are like Magnus and Ellegaard! They're always giving each other those hateful glances! And Jesse's like the leader who's always breaking up them up!"
He looked around for a moment, seeming to think, before grabbing Petra by the arm and pulling her closer. "And Petra's like the Gabriel of our group!"
"Yeah, no." Petra replied bluntly, wiggling herself out of his grip.
"Axel, you really can't compare us to the Order." Olivia said, shaking her head. "We're no heroes."
Axel's face fell and he pouted.
"Honestly Axel, we'd probably kill each other on the battlefield before whatever we're fighting can." Petra said, giving him a playful slap on the back. She checked her watch.
"Shoot, gotta go. I have a trade to complete. Nice to talking you guys!"
With those words Petra broke off into a swift jog, waving to them, before disappearing around a corner.
"We should probably head home as well." Olivia said. "My feet are killing me, and I can't imagine how Jesse's arms must be feeling from carrying Reuben around for the past few hours."
"Maybe this is why we won't make a good Order." Axel said. "You're too much of a downer!"
"What?!" Olivia asked, giving Axel a light shove as they started walking again.
Jesse hung back slightly. She looked over at her friends, then back at the banner. A smile played on her lips.
"We may not be like the Order... but I love our dysfunctional group just the way it is."
