Chapter 8 - 3C-13

Jack's POV

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

Everyone filed out of the building as the final period came to a close. I was about to get onto the bus when I remembered I had cross country. I quickly turned around and jogged to the park that we ran in.

When I walked in, we were in the middle of stretching. I walked up to  and Julian Liam and began stretching next to them. "Oh, by the way, your mom texted me saying that she's picking you up alone today. Julian's still coming with me," Liam said. I nodded. "That's... weird..." Julian said. "Are you doing something around here or something?" I thought about it for a second, then shook my head. "I don't think so..." Julian looked deep in thought about something.

After a while, we began running around the park. I thought we'd only have to run around it once, but our coach made us keep going. We had done two laps. Then three. Then four. By the time he let us stop I was utterly exhausted. I could barely even see straight. I could tell that Liam was suffering the same condition, but when I looked at Julian, he looked fine. I also noticed that his shoes were perfectly clean, despite the group running through a puddle of mud. I shook my head at him and he winked at me.

Once he dismissed us, I parted with Liam and Julian. I saw Julian give me a weird look of concern. Then my car pulled up. Before I got in, I tried to put my bag into the trunk, but it was locked. I opened the front door and I asked, "Hey mom, could you open the trunk? I wanna put my bag into..." I stopped short, sensing something was wrong.

Suddenly Julian came up to me. "Hey, you forgot your water bottle in the... Ahem." He suddenly stopped, then whispered to me, "Did your mom get plastic surgery or something?" She turned to look at me. "Get in," she barked. I began to hesitantly oblige, but Julian grabbed my arm. "I... wouldn't." He said. "Get in," she said louder.

Now I was kind of scared. She stepped out of the car and stared at me angrily. Her face... didn't look at all like my mom's face. She grabbed for me, but I quickly dodged. She pulled out a rag and tried to shove it into my face, but I dodged again. For some reason Julian was playing Megalovania on his phone.

Now furious, she threw her entire body at me. Unable to dodge, I was thrown into the ground. My head connected with the concrete with a sickening thwack. I blacked out for a moment, then realized I was being carried towards the car. Julian pulled a baseball bat out of his backpack and swung it at her. She dodged quickly, but dropped me in the process. I was too tired from running and groggy from the blow to my head to get up. Julian kept swinging the bat at her, and finally connected. She stumbled backwards, then grabbed Julian's arm. With little effort, she lifted him with one arm and pressed a rag his mouth with the other. His movements slowing, he threw the bat to me. I managed to stand up with the bat, my legs shaking. I saw Julian's body go limp, and she threw him into her car. In a last chance effort to stop her, I swung the bat at her. It hit her, but not nearly as hard as I needed it to. She snarled at me, then jumped into the car and sped away.

My mind could barely process what had just happened, and my probably concussed head wasn't helping. I collapsed into the ground in a heap of limbs, and slowly lost consciousness.

Dyanara's POV

When I first woke up, I was groggy and confused. I was lying on a medium sized mattress, and had clearly been sedated. Then I suddenly remembered everything that had happened. My head looked upwards, suddenly alert. I stood up, but immediately felt a numb feeling in my legs. How long had I been asleep? Probably more than a day, I thought.

I examined my surroundings. I was in some kind of cell. It was different from a prison cell, like it didn't have bars and there were some furnishings. The mattress I had been sleeping on looked somewhat comfortable, and there was a normal looking sink. There was no bathroom, which made me realize that I really needed to use one.

The walls were all sturdy concrete, except for a part of the wall next to the sink that had a several cracks in it. It looked as if it would crumble any second. I tried pushing on it, but I didn't quite have all my strength back yet. I checked my pockets. I pulled my hands out, to find that they were filled with cobwebs. "Ew," I said out loud. I heard a shuffling from the other side of the crack.

"Hello? Is someone there?" The voice sounded male, and... familiar. "Y-yeah," I responded. "W-who are you? W-what is this place?" I asked. I heard more shuffling from the other side. Was he doing a victory dance...? "I don't really know where we are, or who brought us here - assuming you were abducted like I was. But, uh, my name is Jason." Something clicked in my mind, and I suddenly realized where I knew him from.

"Is your last name by any chance... Schoenbeck?" I asked. I heard a small gasp. "How did you... wait... Dyanara?"

"Mr. Schoenbeck?"

We both stood in silence for a moment. Why was Mr. Schoenbeck here? Why was I here? What was going on?

"So that's why we haven't heard from you since you got fired? It's because you were kidnapped?" I asked. None of this made any sense. But apparently it made even less sense to Mr. Schoenbeck. "Wait, what? When did I get fired?" That shocked me. He didn't know? How long had he been here? "It's... kind of a long story. Everyone that was supposed to teach everyone in your class suddenly got replaced, even the ones who left. Oh, and all of our classmates are jerks who don't exist and I was kidnapped by Elizabeth B's mom then chloroformed by a mysterious hand..."

I trailed off, wondering how I could explain all this. Thankfully, Mr. Schoenbeck saved me. "Actually, you can tell me later. Right now, our first priority is getting out of here." I agreed. "Maybe we should break through this wall first," I suggested. "But, uh, I just woke up and I'm still feeling kinda weak from whatever they sedated new with, so..."

"No problem," he said. "You might want to step back a little." I did as he said. After a few moments, I heard a loud pound from the other side. A few pebbles came loose from the wall. Then again. This time, larger chunks of wall came out. And then...

Crash! Parts of the wall shot outwards, and I jumped out of the way. I saw cracks going even further up the wall, and then it all came tumbling down. When the dust cleared, there was a huge hole in the wall. And on the other side was Mr. Schoenbeck. I ran up to him and gave him a hug. Then we looked around each other's rooms. On the side of his room, there was some weird panel with several buttons on it. Each button had a number on it. I saw one of the buttons (it carried a 5) had been pushed. "I saw that when I woke up, and I just pushed a random button," said Mr. Schoenbeck.

In the front of his room there was a rectangular outline stretching from the floor to about three quarters of the way to the ceiling. It looked kind of like a door. Mr. Schoenbeck noticed me looking at the door. "I've already tried opening it," he said. "But it's way too heavy to move."

Then, as if by magic, I heard another voice from the other side of the door. "Shit! Shit! God dammit!" This voice was a lot fainter than Mr. Schoenbeck's was. The person was probably farther away. "Hello?" I shouted. "Are you OK?" Mr. Schoenbeck had heard the person too, and came over to the door. "Who's there? Can you help get us out of here?" he shouted. The voice stopped yelling. "Sorry, but I have no idea where I am. I was just brought here..." he trailed off. "Wait a sec. What are your guy's names?" He asked. I hesitated for a moment before answering, but didn't really see any reason not to. "Well, my name is Dyanara–" He cut me off mid sentence. "I knew it! Dyanara, we've all been so worried about you! It's me, Julian!" This shocked both me and Mr. Schoenbeck. "Julian!? What are you doing here? How long have I been gone?" I was excited to hear from someone who knows what's going on in the outside world. "It's been about... 10 days? 10 days ago we stopped hearing from you, then a few days ago Xiomara said that you were kidnapped or something!" I gasped. I hadn't thought about my friends and family! They must have been worried sick! "Oh, and guess what! Mr. Schoenbeck is here too! He's right next to me!" "Hello, Julian! It's been a while!" He said. Julian's voice was a mix of excitement and concern. "But what are you doing here? Actually, a better question – Where are we?" Neither of us had an answer.

Julian spoke up again. "Hey guys, I just realized, there's this big button in my room. It's red and on this pedestal, and it's kinda just... there," he said. Hm, I thought. It's not one of those numbered buttons, then. "Try pressing it," suggested Mr. Schoenbeck. "Ok," he replied. I heard a loud beep from the the other side. Suddenly, the door began sliding to the left into the wall. On the other side, I saw a hallway and a large iron door. I ran out of Mr. Schoenbeck's room, happy to be free. "Hey guys, what happened out there?"Julian asked. "Is everything OK?" I noted that his voice was coming from the other side of the door. "Yeah!" I said. "A door just opened, and now we're in this big hallway. Oh, and we can see the door to your room as well!"

"Well that's great and all, but do you think there's any way to let me out?" He asked. I looked around, but didn't see much. "Don't worry," said Mr. Schoenbeck. "We'll get you out of there. I'm gonna go look around, ok? But don't worry, we'll be back!" And with that, we both walked down the hall and began our search.

A.N. Sorry for the longer chapter, I was considering making it two but it didn't really work
