Chapter 7 - State of Emergency

Steven's POV

It was only the third day of school and we had already called an emergency 305 meeting. Normally, a meeting like this would have been full of discord and chaos. But today, the only noise in the room was a quiet susurrus as we all shared information, rumors and fears.

After a little bit, Hana, the one who organized this meeting, motioned for us to be silent. "Thank you, guys, for coming today. As you know, we have several important issues to talk about. So if you would please keep all witty remarks to yourself, that would be most appreciated." Hana spoke in a calm and collected manner that none of us really expected.

"What if we filed for a Pun Permission Document?" Adelaide asked. "Excellent question, Adelaide," Hana said. "Those who have filed for a PPD will be allotted 1 pun for the duration of this meeting. Whether you choose to openly state your pun or whisper it to a select few will be at your discretion." Crap, I thought. I forgot to get a PPD. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Julian wink at me, brandishing 5 PPD's. I silently thanked him as he handed one to me.

"Now firstly, we must have a roll call. We will be going in alphabetical order, so do try and remember about when it will be your turn. Elizabeth Barrett?"

"Here!"

"Maddie Barry?"

"Here!"

"Liam Brown?... Liam Brown?"

"He's... not coming," said Julian.

"Dammit Liam..."

After calling out the rest of the names and noting a few absences, the real meeting began. "Alright everyone, for our first issue..." Hana cleared her throat before continuing. "What the fuck are we gonna do about these new kids???" Everyone nodded. It seemed like all the new kids at all of the schools were complete jerks. On the first day of school it seemed like they all banded together to try and make all the original 305ers miserable. I heard it was the same at Whitney and Lane. "Let's tie them to the railroad tracks!" suggested Caleb. "Throw them into an incinerator!" shouted Nora. "Force them to compete in a Master Chef for us where the loser of each competition dies and the winner gets enslaved to make us food every day!" exclaimed Elizabeth. "I like that one," I said.

"Those are all wonderful ideas, but unfortunately all of them have their flaws," Hana said. "As strange as it may sound, does anyone have any ideas that don't involve murder?" About half the hands in the room went down. "Why don't we try to befriend them? Maybe we could just talk to them," Cole proposed. A few people nodded, but a few others who had already had bad experiences with the new kids were shaking their heads. "Well, we've already been trying this a bit, but as you all know, the new kids seem to despise us. Um, maybe we should have Chief Ambassador Steven talk about this..." Hana looked at me and I nodded. I stood up and began talking.

"For these past three days I've been trying to get to know these kids, but whenever I try to talk to them they just glare at me and run away. I don't think any of us did anything wrong... I think that something weird is going on." I spoke with utmost seriousness. This was not the time to use my PPD. "But still, talking to them seems like a good idea. We should try and introduce ourselves and stuff." Some people muttered some things under their breaths about not wanting to talk to them, but I ignored it.

"Thanks Steven," Hana said. "Now our final topic. No one has heard from Dyanara for the past several days, right?" A few of Dyanara's closer friends nodded. Some looked worried. Evan T. stated, "If I'm correct, not for the past eight days." He, Alex and Ella stood up. "We collected some information during Lane's orientation–" Alex coughed loudly. "and we have reason to believe that someone cut us off from Dyanara on August 31st. Then there was something called... extraction... two days ago." I felt a chill go down my spine when he said the word extraction.

I saw Alex's eyebrows raise as if he had just realized something. "We found all this on a piece of paper I stole from my teacher. However, this paper was torn. The last letter we could see was a D, and then what I now believe to be a Y. There was also a number 5 which was clearly important. Dyanara's class number was 5. This clearly means that whatever happened, it happened to Dyanara." Some people looked shocked, me included. However, Xiomara did not. She shook her head, then spoke up. "Her mom texted my mom. She said that Dyanara has been missing since the first day of school." Everyone gasped. Could Alex's teacher, or someone working with them, have kidnapped Dyanara? No. It couldn't be possible. What teacher would do that? Evan began speaking again. "W-well, whatever this extraction was, we know it has something to do with the lack of data on the new kids and the sudden firing of our teachers." I sniffled. Poor Mr. Schoenbeck...

"Xiomara, if it's not too much to ask, could you try and find out as much as you can?" Hana asked tentatively. Xiomara nodded. "Well, when her mom said that she last saw Dyanara when she was getting into Elizabeth's car for a sleepover." Everyone froze, then slowly turned towards Elizabeth B. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH OUR DYANARA?" Nora bellowed. Elizabeth backed away in fear. "I didn't do anything, I swear!" She was visibly shaking. Apparently she remembered what we were capable of. "Now, now, Nora, let's not jump to conclusions. I doubt that Elizabeth would ever do anything to hurt her friend." Hana tried to sooth us, but I still wasn't entirely convinced. "Be that as it may... guards, take her to the interrogation room." Charles and Elias sprang out of their seats and dragged Elizabeth by the arms out of the room. "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!" she screamed. Then the doors slammed shut. I shuttered. I had been to the interrogation room once. It's something that makes sure that you never make the same mistake twice.

"And with that, I declare this meeting adjourned. If you are able to make any contact with Dyanara, please tell us. Any other info should also be recorded. And I swear to god Evan L, if I find another one of your peanut butter crackers on the ground there will be hell to pay. Goodnight everyone!"

A.N. Sorry if you don't like how I portrayed you, I tried my best
