A Friend Indeed

The Sekmet Killer POV:

I always had a feeling she wouldn't leave. Why would she? She has nowhere else to go. Sure we had our fights and arguments but we came through for one another in the end. She's the only one who would actually stay in salt lake anyways.

Cassie Rose... my old frienemy. She and that giant mutant cat are the best human-monster duo if I've ever seen one. And that's saying a lot because I usually kill those types of people before their 'pets' get out of hand. Though Cassie was the exception, she always was. I could just ask her to travel with me on my quest to kill the Order. But she says no every time.

The only reason I remember where her base is that it used to be my base before the lake got a giant sea monster in it. Now everyone left and I raided everything I could find and made a new base in the abandoned city.

I still remember how to enter the base. Just travel down one of the streets until you find a manhole, then just climb in. Then there's a map I have to follow and it doesn't help that I have a helmet on, it stinks down there and I'm walking around in Kraken piss. Assuming that it's Kraken piss, though I don't really want to know or care enough to find out. Somethings in life was meant to remain a mystery. But NO! Humanity just has to find the answer to everything! Look where that's got us.

Once I approached an orange light I knew I was getting close. I don't remember there being a giant barricade here... definitely Cassie. I thought. When it was my base there wasn't a giant blockade in front of the entrance, but at least there was a door in the giant pile of junk used as a blockade.

I knocked on the door and heard a faint hiss, then some quick steps until someone asked, "Who's there?"

"It's me, Cassie. Open the door." I said.

The person scoffed behind the door. "I know a lot of people hun, though if you are who I think you are then what's my other name?"

I sighed. "Cassie Rose the White Pumpkin. I don't have time for this, the Sekmet Killer is right outside your door. So you better help her before she makes you help her!"

The door cracked open and a red-headed woman peeked out before opening it completely. "SK! It's been awhile since I've seen you! Come in, come in! Sorry, but I stole your base, no take backs!"

Cassie being the great friend that she was let me inside and closed the door. "SK?" I asked. I was called many things but never that before.

"For Sekmet Killer. Come on, I knew if anyone would go on a murder spree it had to be you. Plus, you left your old name behind after that day." Cassie explained.

The base was rusted down and falling apart. There were old pipes that stuck out from the walls, cracks in the walls, and some parts of the ceiling looked like they were about to cave in at any moment. The orange light came from some sort of jack-o-lantern in one of Cassie's white pumpkins she always grows.

"So," Cassie started, breaking the silence. "why do you need my help?"

"I'm looking for someone. British guy. His name is Stampy, if anyone could find him I know it's you." I said. "he's also good with machines, as far as I know."

Cassie gave me a hard look, "Mhm... and why should I help you? Last time we spoke in person you told me to kill myself."

"Cassie, I was angry back then. I was mad at everything. I mean I'm still mad but not at everyone. Not at you. And when I told you to kill yourself you tried to kill me! So that seems fair. All I ask is that you bring me this Stampy guy here." I explained. "come on Cassie. One more time for old times sake?"

The person who I once called my friend looked at her giant pet cat named Winslow who walked up to her. I still remember when he was just a cat and not a radioactive monster. Before he was so small. Now he's a giant calico beast with four green eyes. But he still acts as if he's tiny.

Cassie put a hand on Winslow's nose and smiled. But her smile faded when she looked back to me. "Fine. I'll find you this Stampy fellow. Just give me some more details, and he'll be here before you know it."

Dan POV:

Lizzie just doesn't get it. Stampy never got it. No one ever understands that what I'm doing can fix everything! But every accepted this way of life, and they're scared of change. But the world changed once my ancestor intertwined the worlds. It wasn't my fault, yet some people took it out on me. I never even met the woman who did this, yet everyone hates me. All except Lizzie and Sleet. The two friends I have left.

Once while I still lived in London, I was trying to map out all the worlds and which place would be the right one to send certain creatures back to their worlds respectively. But a little girl saw my work and asked, "Why do you want to send everyone back?"

"Because humans aren't supposed to be with Elves or Dragons or Wizards or Gremlins," I said.

The girl looked at my plan again and smiled. "I don't like your plan, but I like the way you knit."

Before I could ask her what she meant, she was gone. I never saw that girl again after that encounter. Something about what she said always stuck with me though. The way I knit. What does that even mean? I would think. But then I would get back to brewing potions and testing things out.

However, recently things have been quiet. Too quiet. And although I got a lot done in recent days, something felt off. Then it came to me. "Of course!" I shouted. I'm usually bothered by Lizzie constantly nagging me about something, though she's been seemingly almost invisible. I wouldn't even know if she's home.

Sleet would sometimes make a racket, he is a dragon after all, but that was usually just because he knocked over a chair with his tail or something along that line. Whenever I waited for a potion to brew and I tried to play with him, he looks sad and he never wanted to play tug of war or his favorite game: Use your frostbreath to make the room super cold. Nothing.

But today while I was waiting for a potion to brew I decided to go and see what Lizzie was doing. Cup of coffee in hand I walked through the hallways, going in and out of rooms trying to find Lizzie. And when I did find her room she was sleeping. So like the scientist that I was, I poked her.

"Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake. Up." I repeated.

Lizzie rolled over and threw a pillow at me, luckily none of my coffee spilled. "Do you have any idea what time it is!"

"Ten at night?" I asked.

Lizzie glanced at the digital clock, which was the only thing illuminating the room. "It's three in the morning!"

"So? I want to talk to you." I said, slightly sloshing the coffee around in my cup.

"At three in the morning," Lizzie said bluntly.

"Yes, at three in the morning." I joked.

Lizzie sighed and got up out of bed and turned on the lights. "Alright," she said, "talk."

Not to sound creepy but all she was wearing was a white tank top (I think that was actually mine), and pink sweatpants. While I was still wearing my lab coat and my goggled were pushed up to my forehead. "Very professional." I continued to joke.

"You're the one who woke me up! Can I go back to sleep or are you going to keep mocking me?" Lizzie growled.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes and groan from frustration. Why did I miss this exactly? "Jeez, what's your problem? I lost track of time and I thought it was a lot earlier than it was okay? Get off my case."

"Dan." Lizzie sighed. "I'm trying to be optimistic here. I'm trying to make this work, with you constantly working on that... whatever the hell you're even doing! You rarely pay attention to me or Sleet and you seem to get more and more narcissistic every day. It's been two weeks Dan. I stopped talking to you two weeks ago! I know that sounds like a relief that I'll finally be quiet and stop nagging you, but whatever gods are listening you're a terrible friend! I'm tempted to go out and find Stampy or just move to France all together so I don't have to deal with going across the underground market every day! I'm tired of work. I'm tired of being hit on by Steve! I'm tired of being almost sexually harassed multiple times! I'm tired, Dan. I'm so tired..."

She was right, I've been a terrible friend. But that was about to change right now. "You're right Lizzie. You're right a lot of the time. I should pay more attention to you, and especially Sleet. He's supposed to be my best friend and yet I treat him like a pet, yet he's supposed to be more than that. I promise starting today that I'll be a better friend."

"Alright. I believe that you actually want to change. Don't drive me away Dan, please don't drive me away." Lizzie said, smiling slightly.

"I won't," I promised, smiling back at her. "But tell me. Who the hell is Steve?"

Jesse POV:

"What do you want? Who are you? What are you doing here!" The person growled.

"W-we don't want any trouble!" I stammered backing away from the arrow pointed at me.

"I heard you coming this way, talking about gold and that stuff. Well, you won't find any here, so scram!" The person threatened.

Though it was when Jillian pushed me out of the way and stepped in was when I started to bite my tongue. "You have some nerve threatening us you know! You should learn to lock your doors if you don't want people entering your house! And sorry for being curious and wanting some adventure! You wanker!"

"Who you calling a wanker? From what I hear you aren't even remotely British! I'll tell you again, get out of here! Don't make me get the dogs!" The person threatened again.

"Can we just all calm down? This is just one life-threatening misunderstanding!" Liv budded in.

The person looked at Liv and lowered their bow. "Fine. Sorry, I just don't get visitors. I thought you were pirates or robbers." They explained.

"That makes sense, we were talking about gold." Lic pointed out.

"Yeah," I agreed, "I see where you're coming from. Sorry."

"It's fine. So what are kids like you doing out here?" They asked.

"We were looking for something to do while our parents do grown up things. So we ran up that big sand dune and saw your home. We didn't think anyone would actually live here, ya know?" I explained.

"I wouldn't know. There are adults here?" The teen asked.

"Yeah, our parents. Well, let's not forget to introduce ourselves! I'm Jesse and these are my sisters Liv and Jillian." I said, nudging to each sister accordingly. "Our newest sister Rika is with our mom."

The person removed their bandanna off their face and introduced themselves. "I'm Dawson. Dawson Fisher. Do you want to come inside? I don't really get guests so..."

"No thank you. Come on, guys." Jillian said in a huff.

"Well, I'm going in. Coming Jesse?" Liv asked.

"Yeah. New friends!" I cheered. Jillian mumbled something but ended up following us inside Dawson's little shack.

The inside was bigger than the outside, so it was very misleading. And Dawson was right about having dogs, or dog. There was only one, a beagle with the name Turtle.

"What kind of name is Turtle?" Jillian asked.

"A better name than Jillian." Dawson joked.

"Savage," Liv whispered.

Dawson also had a pet fox named Reindeer, or Rein for short. And I don't know how, but she had tea. Like tea from a kettle! Mom doesn't let us have fancy stuff like tea a lot, so whenever I get it I just can't help but feel really fancy. Jillian didn't take some of the tea, she didn't trust Dawson yet. Though to be fair we just met this person. And Liv was fine so everything was nice and dandy.

Taking a sip of my ocean tea (yes it was called ocean tea), I said. "Dawson, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, Jesse. Ask away." She said.

"How did you get here? And how did you build all this? I mean last time I checked the nearest tree was a long while away from here." I asked. Liv looked up from playing with Turtle and Rein to listen to the response, she was curious too. Even Jillian shifted in her spot on the floor a little bit.

"I don't know," Dawson started to explain, "I remember waking up in some sort of shipwreck on this beach. I only remembered a few things like my name and my pets, etc. I don't and still have no idea where I am either. So I used whatever I could from the wreck to make my little bungalow. Everything in this room was from the wreck, and some washed up junk I found on the beach. I only arrived about... five? Five months ago I believe."

"How did you survive then? There's nothing to eat." Jillian pointed out like she so often did.

Dawson turned to Jillian then back to me. "I end up eating a lot of seaweed. There are crabs too and sometimes I shoot down a seagull with my arrows. Freshwater takes awhile to purify, I have a little water purifier in the back."

"You seem like a really crafty person Dawson!" Liv complimented.

"I grew up in a fishing town. How to be crafty is something every kid is taught. Though if not for Turtle and Rein I think I would've gone insane by now." Dawson said.

There was an awkward silence until Turtle started to bark at the door. We all turned to see what he was barking at when there was a knock on the door. "Jesse? Liv? Jillian? Are you guys in there?" Someone asked from the outside. "Is that... is that a dog? Where did you find a dog?"

When I saw Dawson lift her bandanna back onto her face and reach for the bow and arrow behind her chair made of sticks, I stopped her. "Don't," I whispered. "that's our other sister Rika. Relax she's cool."

We all continued to stay quiet and Turtle continued to bark. "Come on guys this isn't funny! Mom and Dad are looking for you! I'll be back in five minutes, if you're not back with mom and dad by then I'm kicking down the door!" We could hear faint sounds of sand moving under Rikas feet as she left and Turtle finally stopped barking.

Jillian crossed her arms at us. "Oh great we were here for like thirty minutes and now our parents sent Rika to search for us. Fantastic."

I could've sworn Liv said something along the lines of 'I thought it was worth it' under her breath. Though I couldn't really hear her thanks to Jillian's pouting.

"I have an idea!" I said loudly, "what if Dawson became a part of the family!"

"That's not a bad idea Jesse!" Liv agreed.

But Jillian shot down my idea the moment it came out of my mouth. "We are already a big family, we're at full capacity Jesse."

Dawson patted Turtles head while Rein was snoozing in the corner. "I already have a family, and they're in Canada. The sooner I get to my hometown the better. Sorry, Jesse."

"It's fine," I reassured her, to be fair we don't have a lot of room left in the wagon. "you could just stay with us until then! We can help you get home! We have a tendency on not staying in one place for longer than a few days anyway."

"I think this is something Jillian can live with. Right, Jillian?" Liv asked.

"Fine, sure. If Mom and Dad agree to it, then fine. Keyword: if" Jillian said.

Liv gave Jillian a quick hug before bursting out of Dawson's home and towards the wagon. Jillian bursting out the door too and making it a race to see who can get there first. Dawson and I walked out last watching them push and shove.

Dawson couldn't help but laugh a little bit. "Are Liv and Jillian always like this?"

"No. Liv is usually quieter and Jillian is less mean sounding. I guess they just want to make a good first impression? I'm not sure. We don't usually make any real long lasting friendships. And no one can ever write to us or send us a message because we're always moving around. And normally I would agree with Jillian when it comes to meeting new people, but you seem nice." I said, "I bet I can get to the top of that dune before you!"

Dawson gave me a little smirk. "You're on."

Note: Goldendoodlegamer11 you're in the book now. Everyone say hello to Dawson! Alright well... I'll be back with the next chapter soon. marching band is sucking the life out of me.
