By the time you and Jemma get to the crevice where you plan to hop across to the portal, you can already feel something behind you. "I feel like we're being watched," Jemma whispers, looking around with scared eyes.

You squeeze her hand. "We are. Keep moving."

When you get to the ravine, you see that the portal is open, but the distance between your side and the other is great. "We'll never make it across!" she shouts, the wind on the surface of the alien planet picking up.

"Yes, we can!" You hand the anchor and rope to Jemma, meeting her eyes. "Use this. I scavanged it from my NASA suit." You point to a ridge on the other side. "Throw it, anchor, then swing across."

"What about you?" she whimpers. "I won't leave you!"

You give her a false grin. "I'll be after you! Just throw the rope back!"

She starts to object, but you cut her off with a sudden kiss. "Kissing me makes me no less cross with you," she pulls back with a small grin, despite her words.

You smirk. "I know." The storm picks up, and a dark figure starts flying towards you. "You have to get across, Jem. Now!"

"Jemma!" A figure comes from the portal, speaking your love's name in a Scottish accent.

"Fitz!"

As she starts to move towards the edge, you help her anchor her rope, then step back to watch her cross. She turns back to you, a longing look on her face. You give her a nod of reassurance. "I'm right behind you, Jem."

She turns back and swings across, narrowly making it across as a dark mist starts to surround you. Fitz grabbing her is the last thing you see, and a smile crosses your face.

"[Y/n]!" Jemma shouts, tears flooding her eyes as she reaches out towards you.

Fitz holds her back. "Jemma, we have to go!"

"Not without her!"

Fitz pulls her back through the portal, just as she sees you fighting off the demon of the alien world. "[Y/n]!"

The next thing Jemma knows, she's in a hole in the ground, covered in ash, and crying because she's billions of lightyears away from you. And she won't find out until later, but you died to save her. You perished saving your true love, and you wouldn't have had it any other way.
