If there is one thing that you and Bucky Barnes both have in common, it's the voices. Both of you were brainwashed by HYDRA, yes, and both escaped that day after SHIELD fell, that's true, but you both have voices that just won't leave you alone. Escaping to Romania was something you'd done to try to escape them.

It didn't work.

"No!" you scream, thrashing around on the small mattress. Despite having little to no memory of who you were or why you were with HYDRA, you decided to stay with Bucky that fateful day over two years ago. He is the only person who you feel safe around.

Bucky wakes from his shallow slumber, pulling a knife out from under his pillow. When he sits up, seeing that the noise came from you, he lays the knife back down, laying a hand on your shoulder. "[Y/n], wake up. It's just a dream."

You fly up from the mattress, trying to catch your breath. You turn to Bucky, trying to calm yourself. The tears start to fall, and Bucky takes you into his arms. The longer time goes on between being with HYDRA and now, the closer you two get. "It wasn't just a dream," you cry. "It was real! I was with HYDRA... I was that machine again."

Bucky whispers soothing things to you to calm you down, stroking your hair. "I'm here. It's over now."

"The voices... they're so loud. I'm afraid one day I won't wake up."

"I know." Bucky pulls back and moves your hair from your forehead. "You have me. I won't let that happen."

You both lean in and give each other a small kiss, knowing that whatever comes next, you have each other. That's all you'll need to keep each other sane.
