CLXII. Faulty Genetics (Part 3) ✪ Steve
Steve leans his head back against the wall, eyes closing. "She's going to grow up with Captain America as a father, but she's not going to be strong and healthy like me. Not only can't she be like me, she's not gonna have a normal human life. She's going to struggle her entire life, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it." He opens his eyes again, turning to look at you with blood-shot baby blues. "What kind of father does that make me?"
You let go of his hand and cup his face in your hands. "Steven Grant Rogers, you're the best damn father Daisy could've ever gotten. Don't you dare do this guilt trip thing for something neither of us knew about or could help. I love you, and I wouldn't change Daisy's father for any man in the world. Health problems or not, we're going to get through this together."
Steve's eyes water. "You don't think this is my fault? Not my faulty genetics?"
You give a sad chuckle and brush the blond hair from his forehead. "Steve, if Daisy is half the person you were when you were smaller, then we'll be raising a damn good kid. She'll be strong in her own way. She'll know the value of strength, and heaven help anyone who pushes her around. Do you know what it's going to be like with you and I as parents, Wanda and Natasha as aunts, and the rest of the guys as uncles?"
Steve laughs softly. "She'll be one over-protected girl."
You lean up and press a kiss to his forehead, wrapping your arms around his neck as his move to your back. "It'll all be okay," you whisper comfortingly to him. "I promise."
"I love you," he whispers, burying his face into the crook of your neck. "So much."
"I love you, too, Stevie," you reply, sighing in relief.
Everything might not be okay right now, but it will be eventually. Your little family of three was going to be okay.
