Day Sixteen
Day 16 - Your views on mainstream music.
I like a lot of different kinds of music, old and new, soft and loud. I like music from many different genres and artists. Sometimes I will like multiple songs from one artist, sometimes just one song and dislike or feel neutral about the rest. I've listened to and enjoyed classical, alternative, pop rock, metal, classic rock, punk, hip hop, some country that I used to listen to with my grandmother when she was alive, and shockingly (to me at least) I have even found a bit of rap now and there than I have actually liked. That is shocking because I was never into rap in the past, finding most of it too vulgar for my personal liking. But sometimes I come across one that isn't overly vulgar and I can enjoy it enough to listen to once in a while.
Just don't expect me to enjoy hearing ANY song, rap or otherwise, that calls women a hoe, whore, bitch or anything else along those derogatory lines. Same with singing/rapping about murder, rape, abuse, suicide, etc. Those songs aren't my style and although I might try to listen to one if a friend recommends it, I'll usually turn them off since I can only listen to so much of that stuff, even if it is recommended by a friend. Don't take it personally, I just really prefer a song with a more uplifting message. Give me Owl City any day of the year and I'll be happy to listen!
I think we need more uplifting music these days and a bit less that is singing about suicide and death. That is just supporting the suicide culture that has been forming around the world. I mean, why give those kinds of thoughts more strength than they already have? Shouldn't we be trying to get away from those thoughts instead?
