Chapter 24, Bittersweet Reunion
Percy and Danny took a moment to look around.
Danny couldn't sense Vlad's presence anywhere. He even did a flythrough of the mansion with Percy following behind.
"Danny, I'm sorry but unless it's on a Pegasus, flying makes me uncomfortable and I don't think I'd be able to concentrate on finding Jazz or Harry properly."
"You know what, that's valid. Besides I think we should both try to concentrate on this as much as possible."
"You think?"
They checked the entire mansion, and found nothing.
"How? HOW?! I get that he can teleport, but this is ridiculous. He can't go that far, and not to mention he had two people with him. SO WHERE IS HE?!"
"Ok something isn't adding up here, if what you say is true, than the most he should've gotten is probably not too far from here, yet you felt him nowhere. Ugh... why this gotta be so complicated?"
"Honestly I don't know."
They even went on to check the surrounding area as much as possible.
Only to find that there was nothing. They didn't find Vlad, they didn't find Jazz, they didn't find Harry, they found nothing but the surrounding forest.
Both found themselves slumped against a tree in defeat.
The only questions they found themselves asking were why and how.
Why? Why take Jazz and Harry? Actually, why take any of them in the first place? Vlad's reasoning behind this still had yet to be uncovered.
How? How did he get away? How did he even pull this off in the first place? He wasn't that powerful, Danny could tell you that much at least, so how did he do it.
The more they tried thinking about how it all fit together, they only found themselves asking more questions.
It gave both of them a headache just trying, trying to fit it all together.
"What are we going to do now?"
"I dunno Danny, I dunno."
Not only were they confused by the whole situation, along with being unsure of how to proceed, they also felt guilty for loosing Jazz and Harry.
That guilt only grew when they'd searched the mansion and area only to not find them in the end.
Why did this have to happen?
Sure, a spell that for every question answered more appeared was messed with.
But why'd they have to get abducted by Vlad?
Even before that whole mess even started, why'd they have to be so suspicious about each other?
Sure, learning about the fact your cousin was part of some secret world allowed for them all to form a bond over it, but if that meant this then... maybe it would've been better had they just never suspected each other in the first place.
Perhaps just living in ignorance would have been best for them.
But at the same time, the bond they'd formed because of learning was something that they wouldn't give up.
Percy wondered if Annabeth was the same with Magnus, although being related to the Norse demigod never brought any harm upon her. He also knew that both were the same way when it came to their friends Carter and Sadie, even if they didn't see each other all that often.
Perhaps ignorance isn't so good after all.
"Well, we can't just sit around. We have to do something!"
"I know, but what do we do? We've checked the area as much as possible. I don't have any drachamas and you don't have your phone so we can't contact anyone. I have no idea where we are, and I have no idea how long we were held captive. Where do we even go from here?"
"Y'know, you bring up some good points... also we're in Wisconsin, even if his mansion is remodeled I can tell this is the Wisconsin one."
"He has more than one?"
"Yeah, he has another one in Colorado if I'm not mistaken. Why do you ask?"
"What do you think the possibility of him being there is?"
"That's a bit of a stretch for him to teleport, especially with two people to account for."
"Hey it's just a suggestion. Other than that though, I have no idea where he could be."
"Y'know what, it's worth a shot."
"What made you change your mind so quick?"
"Oh I still have my doubts, but it could be worth checking. Hmm..."
"What?"
"How're we going to get there?"
"You're right... I'd ask if you could teleport, but you would've already brought it up if you could."
"How about your dog? Could we travel on her?"
"I don't have a way of summoning her right now, and depending on how much energy she'd use to shadow travel, she might be too tired to take us anywhere."
"Yeah..."
"Just when we think we've gotten somewhere, only to discover we've hit a dead end."
"Been there, done that. But we can't just give up, that's be letting both of them down."
"Got any other ideas on how to get there?"
"No, nothing fast enough..."
"Gosh dang it... why can't I think of anything?"
The sounds of footsteps and rustling leaves, a new voice answered.
"Gosh dang it indeed Seaweed Brain, we made it cross country in ten days, five if you don't count the Lotus Hotel, so Wisconsin to Colorado which is pretty much half that should be nothing."
Percy's eyes widened and he looked up.
Standing right in-front of him was his Wise Girl.
