Day Four: Tree Decorating
I got this idea from when me and my brother were decorating our tree. We always hang Disney ornaments and it turns into a bickering match over who hangs which ornament.
The I.M.P office was unusually festive—or at least it tried to be. In the center of the room stood a Christmas tree... sort of. It was lopsided, with branches sticking out at odd angles, and the needles looked like they were already planning to drop. Blitz stood proudly beside it, hands on his hips. "Behold! The ultimate symbol of holiday cheer!"
"It's a mess," Loona deadpanned, scrolling on her phone from the couch. "Where did you even find this thing?"
"Behind a gas station," Blitz replied cheerfully.
Moxxie sighed, adjusting his tie as he stared at the tree. "It's lopsided, uneven, and smells faintly of garbage. Couldn't you have found a better tree?"
"Hey, the best things in life are free," Blitz shot back. "Besides, you're decorating it, so quit whining."
Millie clapped her hands together, her holiday enthusiasm undampened. "It's fine! We'll just add a little love, and it'll be perfect!"
"Yeah, a lot of love," Moxxie muttered, side-eyeing the sad excuse for a tree.
Blitz ransacked his office for decorations; or at least some festive ones and a bunch of random junk he had lying around. "Okay, gang," Blitz said, pointing to a pile of decorations on the floor. "We've got ornaments, lights, tinsel, and some random crap I found in the office. Let's make this tree sparkle!"
As the group began sorting through decorations, it quickly became clear that nobody could agree on how the tree should look. "We should go classy," Moxxie declared, holding up a box of silver and gold ornaments. "Minimalist. Elegant."
"Elegant is boring!" Blitz shouted, tossing a handful of multicolored tinsel into the air. "We need color! Chaos! Glitter!"
"Too much glitter and it'll look like a craft store exploded," Moxxie retorted.
"Explosions are festive!" Blitz countered.
Loona groaned from the couch. "You're both idiots. Just throw some lights on it, put a star or something on top and call it a day."
"But the theme, Loony!" Blitz whined. "A tree needs a theme!"
Millie, trying to mediate, held up a box of candy cane ornaments. "Why don't we do something fun and traditional? Like red and white!"
"Traditional is boring!" Blitz huffed, crossing his arms. "I'm thinking... horses. A tree entirely covered in horses."
Moxxie blinked. "What?"
"Horses!" Blitz repeated, gesturing dramatically. "Tiny horse ornaments, ribbons shaped like reins, and—oh! We could put a saddle under the tree for the aesthetic!"
"That's ridiculous!" Moxxie exclaimed. "Why would anyone...?"
Millie tilted her head thoughtfully. "Actually, that sounds kinda fun!"
Moxxie stared at her. "Millie, no!"
"Millie, yes!" Blitz said, throwing his arm around her shoulder. "You get me, Mills."
Eventually, they decided poorly to decorate the tree together, with everyone adding their own ideas. The result was pure chaos. Millie happily draped garlands of red and white beads, while Moxxie meticulously placed silver and gold ornaments. Blitz, meanwhile, started sneaking horse figurines onto the branches. "What the hell is this?" Moxxie asked, holding up a tiny plastic horse in a Santa hat.
"It's the spirit of Christmas," Blitz said, grabbing the figurine and placing it on the tree.
"It's the spirit of your weird obsession," Moxxie muttered.
Loona, finally roped into helping, lazily draped a string of lights over the tree. "There. Done."
"It's crooked!" Moxxie pointed out.
"So it's fixable. Unlike your weight," Loona shot back, smirking.
"For the hundredth time! I am not fat!" Moxxie shouted.
Millie stepped back, admiring her section of the tree. "It's looking pretty good! Right, Moxxie?"
Moxxie squinted at the tree, which now looked like four entirely different people had decorated it. "It's... unique."
Blitz grinned. "It's art."
After endless bickering and a near fistfight between Blitz and Moxxie over the topper which was a glittering horse head Blitz insisted on, the tree was finally finished. The lights flickered unevenly, the ornaments were a chaotic mix of elegant and absurd, and the horse figurines were somehow the dominant feature. But hey, it's a holiday tree nonetheless. "It's hideous," Moxxie said, shaking his head.
"It's perfect!" Blitz said proudly, snapping a picture with his phone. "Loony! Get in here for the group photo!"
Loona sighed but reluctantly joined them in front of the tree. As the group posed for the picture, Blitz held up a tiny horse ornament and said, "Next year, I'm buying a horse-sized tree. Mark my words."
The tree, predictably, started leaning... and then toppled over with a crash. "Blitz!" Moxxie yelled.
"What?!" Blitz shrugged. "It's a tree! They fall!"
And so, the I.M.P team's attempt at holiday cheer ended in true chaos; but with plenty of laughs along the way.
