The Final Twenty-Four | 2

|Recap|

I stop to try and catch my breathe and felt footsteps coming closer and closer. I drop my duffle bag and instantly pull out my strap.

"I have no problem blowing your fucking brains out."

"We just want to talk, Eric."

His voice trailed off and my vision became blurry. Seconds later I felt light headed and suddenly, everything went black.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

Feels like I was knocked out for days. I woke up, blinked a few times, and realized I'm in a different environment. How the hell did I end up at the hospital is what I want to know.

I'm beginning to have frequent flashbacks of last night but I can only seem to remember the robbery and getting pulled over by a cop.

I do remember running out of breathe because of my bad lungs but that's it.

"Eric? Are you okay? What happened?" a voice asked.

I slowly raise up and it turns out to be Jerry.

"H-how did you find out? And how the hell did I get here?" I muttered. Before he could respond, a nurse walks in.

"Good morning Mr. Wright. How'd you sleep?"

"I slept okay. But I'm just confused. I really want to know how I ended up here and why."

"Well first things first, welcome to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; but I'm sure this isn't your first time here. And according to your medical chart, you had a mini asthma attack and passed out in front of your home in Calabasas."

"Okay. Now how did I get here? Who saved me? Sorry for asking a lot of questions but last night was a blur. I can't seem to remember anything."

"Looks like someone witnessed and called an ambulance immediately. Now if you don't mind, I would like to check your blood pressure and temperature."

She handed me a cup of water before placing
a thermometer in my mouth and wrapping a sphygmomanometer around my arm.

"Okay so according to this bad guy, your temperature is ninety-nine point seven which is okay and your blood pressure is one twenty-two over eighty-eight which is also okay."

"I just want to know what caused his asthma attack," said Jerry "Eric do you remember what you were doing last night that caused you to pass out?"

"I don't know Jerry. I honestly don't know, I can't remember anything. Last night just feels like a blur," I said while shaking my head.

"Well you were running without your inhaler obviously. Now why were you running? Tell me."

I didn't respond so he nudged me.

"Eric."

"What Jerry?" I scoffed.

"Why were you running? I hope you didn't do anything you'd be sorry for."

"I don't remember Jerry! Does it look like I'm trying to make myself think?"

"No. It looks like you're just sitting on a hospital bed wasting away. Now make yourself remember and answer me, you didn't do anything you'd be sorry for right?"

"Aight everything is coming back to me. The only thing I remember is coming home late and I started running," I mumbled.

He glared at me. "Running from what? Who? Where? Why?"

"You wouldn't believe me anyway. Well what I mean is, you're not going to take my side."

"Try me."

[A/N: so I'm going to try a new way of writing flashbacks. The flashback will be written in regular font while the dialogue of the person who's currently speaking will be in italics. Just want to try something new. If it confuses you, just let me know lmao]

"Okay. I remember coming home from something I had to take care of and on my way home, I was pulled over by LAPD."

"Oh those Goddamn cops," he spat "continue."

|Flashback|

"Yes officer?"

"Look to your left. What does that sign say?"

"Umm, it says that this is a fourty-five mile speed zone."

"Exactly. So do you know how fast you were going?"

"Um nah can't say that I do."

"Alright get out of the car with your hands in the air."

"Is this one of them speeding traps?"

"Now."

"Yes sir."

"Seriously Eric? If all you did was speed, then what was up with the harassment?"

"And the world wonder why we scream fuck the police."

"Drop your keys, slowly."

"Officer can't you just give me the speeding ticket?"

"No one asked you to talk. Now who did you steal this car from? It's a nice ass BMW I must say, so who did you steal it from?"

"Actually this car is not stolen, this is my car and I paid cash for it."

"Oh you bought it huh? Sure you did."

"Is this guy crazy? Harassing you just for speeding and accusing you of stealing your own BMW? That's police harassment!"

"Yes. And racism Jerry."

"Look I just told you this car is not stolen this is my car in which I paid for. And it's-"

"You stay right there and don't move a muscle. We're gonna get to the bottom of this."

"I was cut off because of his dispatcher. So I decided to use that to my advantage and drive away."

"Oh my God Eric. I hope and pray it doesn't come back to bite you."

"Hey! Hey!"

"Okay so I arrived at my crib thirty minutes later. After locking my car I felt a presence behind me. I looked back and it was three big masked niggas."

"What am I supposed to be scared or something?"

"They didn't respond so I fired a warning shot and they began to chase after me. Now this is starting to come back to me. That's why I was running."

"And who are these guys Eric? Do you know?"

"Nah. Then I began to run out of breathe and I started to wheeze. I chose the wrong day to leave the house without my inhaler. Damn."

"Eric you should always bring your inhaler. You know you have bad lungs. What were you thinking?"

"Anyway, I stopped running and tried to catch my breathe but I couldn't. They got even closer which led me to pull out my strap."

"I have no problem blowing your fucking brains out."

"We just want to talk, Eric."

"And that's all I remember. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in a damn hospital."

|End of Flashback|

"So you don't know who these guys are?"

I shook my head. "Nah, but I'ma found out."

"Eric I know you're upset and confused and you have every reason to be, but you are not going to do anything you'd feel sorry for in the long run."

"See what I mean Jerry? I knew you would be anti in this. Best believe I'm going to find out who they are. All I know is they were flagging red bandanas so they gotta be Bompton Bloods."

He shook his head and looked away.

"Eric I'm gonna tell you one last time, no. Just let it go. You're okay. You're still alive. Always remember that it could've been worse."

City National Bank

"We're live here in Los Angeles at City National Bank. I'm Ginger Chan and you're watching KTLA News. One of the top stories here in Los Angeles is the robbery that took place last night. We have three witnesses who are going to share what they've seen and heard."

"Well I can't remember every detail but I do know that someone was shot and three men were responsible for the entire thing."

"Someone was shot? Are they okay?" Ginger asked before passing the microphone back to the witness.

"He should be fine because he was only shot
in the thigh. But we should really get these criminals off the streets. L.A is becoming dangerous and I don't feel safe around here anymore," she said.

"Thank you so much for your side of the story. We have witness number two who was actually a victim. He's one of the banktellers. Please tell us more about the robbery sir."

She passed the microphone to him and he rolled his eyes. "Is there a problem?" she asked.

"Yeah. Why did it take LAPD three Goddamn hours to approach the scene?" he spat.

"Sorry to hear that sir. But they're currently looking for the three young men who-"

"Just cut all of that damn bullshit. LAPD aint gonna catch no damn body. They were too busy chilling in a donut shop."

"Okay. Well at least tell us more about the robbers since you witnessed everything first hand. Can you tell us anything about them?"

He smirked. "Yeah. They run fast."

She looked back at the camera and flashed a fake smile. "Well here is our third and final witness. Please tell us your side of the story m'am."

"I remember hearing a few gunshots and everyone in my neighborhood screamed and locked their doors immediately. I couldn't identify the robbers because it was dark but one of them was pretty short, I mean very short but he was soo hot."

"Hot?" Ginger questioned.

"Yes. I mean I'm not into dwarfs but he totally pulled off the short look. Oh and I do recall them calling him Casual."

"Casual huh?"

"Yeah. He's like the hottest midget I've ever seen," she smiled.

"Well.. thank you for your side of the story. LAPD is currently looking for the three armed men who are apparently members of the Crips gang. If you know anything please call 1-800-SNITCH. I'm Ginger Chan and this is KTLA News."

Club Dooto's

"Aye you really wanna be here?" Ren asked.

"Give me a reason why we shouldn't be here," I said.

The bouncer patted us down.

"Watch my nuts man," Yella spat.

"Bompton is in the house tonight. Just wanted to give y'all a heads up."

"Yeah thanks for the tip."

I made sure I brought my inhaler with me just in case it happens again.

"Where Dre at?" I asked while checking my pager "I paged him to meet us here but he never got back to me."

"So Jerry told us you had an asthma attack last night? What happened?" Ren asked.

"When I took you out, I knew what you were all about but when I did, I didn't mean to turn you on. Now I bring you home, you told me goodnight's not enough for you I'm sorry baby I didn't mean to turn you on."

"It's a long story. Trust me."

"Oh well let's go get a drink or something. It's hot as hell in here," said Yella.

I didn't want us to be bombarbed by the paparazzi and screaming fans because after having a long night and early morning, I just wanted to come to Dooto's to forget about last night and relax but that plan failed.

"Aye I want y'all to make some noise for the world's most dangerous rap group, Eazy-E and N.W.A!" the d.j yelled.

"No Cube no N.W.A!" someone from the crowd yelled.

After fighting our way through the paparazzi and screaming fans thanks to security, we finally made it to the concessions stand.

"Excuse me?" Yella asked to get the cashier's attention.

"Y'all need something?"

"Coke," he muttered.

"Alright young Blood," he laughed before fixing his drink.

After paying, he took a sip and chuckled.

"Haha you funny man. But this ain't Coke man this is Sprite."

"And?" he asked.

"A nigga didn't ask for Sprite."

"Oh my fault little man but check this out. You're gonna drink whatever the hell I give you. We cool? Now enjoy your night."

He scoffed. "And this is why I don't fuck with this club anymore! Not only is it run by Lonzo's ass but it takes petty shit like this to piss me off."

"Aye I want y'all to meet somebody," said
Ren "she's throwing a pool party soon and we should go. We went to school together. Lauren!Aye Lauren!" he yelled

"Girl I must warn you I sense something strange in my mind. Situation is serious let's cure it cause we're running out of time."

"What's up?" he greeted her.

"So are you and your crew still coming to my pool party?"

"Yeah we'll be there. But I want to introduce you to E and Yella. Dre isn't here as you can see."

"Cool. Well this is my homegirl Tomica."

"What's up shorty?" Yella chuckled.

"Shorty huh?"

She glared at me.

"Can I help you?" I asked rudely.

"Um it's nice to meet you? Is that how you greet-"

"Well actually it's not so nice. I don't appreciate you glaring at me like I'm a fucking killer or something."

"Excuse me?" she scoffed.

"What?"

"You mean to tell me you have those big ass ears and didn't hear what I just said?"

"What?" I asked again.

"Well you're kind of being an asshole in case you didn't know. If you don't want to be here
or if you're not in the mood to socialize with anyone then you need to take your ass home or go get your personality checked."

"And you are?"

She gasped. "A person! Just because I'm not in the limelight like you doesn't give you the right to talk to me or anyone else this way. And there's also a way to talk to people and that's not it."

I got in her face. "Bitch what the fuck did you just say to me?"

"You heard what I said! I'm not scared of you!"

Seconds later, security approached the scene and broke us up. Of course, everyone is gathered around being nosey.

"Damn! Can't take black folks nowhere!" the d.j yelled in the mic.

"It's driving me out of my mind, that's why it's hard for me to find. Can't get it outta my head. Miss her, kiss her, love her."

"Calm down E," Ren said.

I took a seat and kept a mean mug on my face.

"We're gonna switch it up and play some Sheila E, enjoy."

"She's got big thoughts, big dreams and a big brown Mercedes Sedan. What I think this girl, she really wants is to be in love with a man. She wants to lead the glamorous life, she don't need a man's touch...."

"Before we leave, I'm gonna beat that bitch's ass."

"Aye E don't worry about Tonanga. Don't let her get to you," said Yella.

"Yeah. She can't drive either," Ren added.

I chuckled. "So she can run her big ass mouth but can't do something as simple as driving?"

We headed back to the concessions stand and speak of the devil...

"You again?" I chuckled.

"Look I came over to apologize for snapping on you. I was kind of out line for causing a scene."

Then Yella interrupted by yelling at the same cashier.

"Can I get a Coke? Please?"

"Alright light bright. Calm down. Coke aint even that damn good."

After paying, he took a sip and sighed.

"Dude! This is a fucking Sierra Mist. Why can't you just give me a fucking Coke?!"

I rolled my eyes.

"Aight," I said with a straight face.

"Aight? No that's not the word I wanted to hear. I apologized, so what do you say?"

"Thank you?"

"Much better," she smirked.
