11. Something you always think, "what if ..." about
April 1st, 2020
One of my biggest "What if..." is about the place I was born. Since I live so close to the USA, sometimes I think, what if I was born in the USA. So many things are easier because you are American. So many great Universities, the USA is a strong country, a place where everything is possible. But then being born in Canada, we also got a bit of the 'everything is possible' way of thinking but it's way safer. I also wonder "what if I was born in Europe" (the condition in Europe is bad right now, stay strong, it will be over soon). Europe is so beautiful, the architecture, the various culture, languages, and history. Everything is so close (from the point of view of a Canadian of course) and the plane ticket/train ticket so cheap. For this second one, I don't really find a reason why it wouldn't be good to be born in Europe.
Another one I think about it what if I was born in an English city in Canada. You probably know I speak French and grew up in French, in Canada. English is really well seen where I grew up and not everyone is bilingual and life would be easier if I was raised in English because it is the language of business. But then I think that the fact that I was raised in French, in an English country is an asset today (ask me five years ago and I would say I hated being raised in French). Yes, learning English was hard but learning French as a second language is even harder. Because of the situation, my province is in Canada, I feel close to Europe (especially the French-speaking countries) as well as the rest of Canada and for me, I don't feel like there is an invisible barrier between me and European countries like my English speaking colleagues had towards Europe.
