Niki...Niki's birthday is a disaster...!

[More sobs, before she speaks again]

I tried...I tried to make a cake, but it failed horribly. And...and that wasn't so bad—I thought it would be fine. A cake doesn't make or break a fun day, right?

So I went to get Gramps...because he—he didn't take the day off like he did for my birthday. He was in the store... like always. And then when I told him it was Niki's birthday he just looked at me and said, "No, it's not."

[Jordyn sniffs]

And—and then he turned back to the counter. And he wouldn't—look at me, even when I tried to talk to him again..

So I left. I thought maybe, even despite all of this, Niki's birthday could still be fun. It could just—just be me and him, like when we were s-small. But—

[Jordyn interrupts herself by breaking into uncontrollable sobs]

[She hiccups and sniffs]

Niki wouldn't come out of his room, no matter...no matter how many times I knocked or called. When I went inside to him and tapped him on the shoulder...Niki—he—tried to swipe me away, like I was part of his stupid game...!

[Her sobs start up again]

Why did this happen to us..?!

I—I—Lights, why did we have to be so stupid?!
