Meeting An Old Friend
I took my coffee from the counter and thanked the waitress as I went to exit the coffee shop."You know, if you're going to disappear for thirty years you could at least call when you get back." An undeniable voice said from behind me.I turned and neatly spilt my coffee. "Thea Queen, it's been a while."I saw tears threatening to fall from her eyes as she looked at me. "Look at you, you haven't aged a day."I shrugged. "Well, I was 20 twenty-one two days ago."She chuckled and wrapped me in a tight hug which I returned. "I missed you so much.""I'd say the same, but you know."She scoffed. "Right, you saw me two days ago. "Walk with me?" I asked her. "We can catch up."She smiled. "What? You think I'm going to track you down just to say hi and leave?""So, is that a yes?"She walked with me towards the door. "Of course, it is.""After you left, it was really hard." Thea started after about a block of walks through downtown Central City. "I stuck with the team for a while before it became too much, and I headed back to Star City.""Why'd you go back?" I asked her.She shrugged. "It just felt like the right place to go. After a while, Roy and I got back in touch."I nearly spit out my coffee. "And how did that go?" It was hard at first, but relationships are hard. You know that better than most." Thea said. "Full of compromise and forgiveness.""Trust me, I've had one girlfriend and she might be the most complicated woman I've met." I said to her. "I couldn't imagine life without her though. She laughed. "It was weird for Nora and Bart. Having the memories of the other timeline when you were here and the memories of the new timeline when you weren't.""I think eventually I just gave up on trying to make it make sense.""Ditto." Thea said to me. "So, how's it feel being an uncle. Do you feel different?"It took a second for it to click in my brain before I choked on my spit. "You have kids?"She smiled. "Two, actually. A boy and girl.""How old are they?" I asked interested as we turned into the residential are of town."Well, Ollie is twenty-four. He graduated this year from the University of Star City, he's going to be a nurse.""Superhero?"She laughed and shook her head. "In his own way he is. He's going to be saving lives, just without the risk.""And your daughter?""Seventeen. Hunter Moira Harper." She said laughing. "You know with two superheroes as parents you'd think we'd be their heroes.""You're not?" I asked confused. She gave me a proud smile. "You are, Roy used to show them footage of you when they were growing up. They thought Spiderman was the coolest thing since dinosaurs."I got choked up and cleared my throat. "Will I get to meet the rest of the family?" I asked.Thea shrugged before laughing. "We'll see how long it takes you to disappear this time."We walked in silence for a while before I finally cracked the egg."You never picked it back up did you?"Thea looked at me confused. "Picked what up?""Come on, don't play dumb. You're my best friend, I can tell when you're lying."She rubbed her injured arm embarrassed. "I knew you'd be disappointed. It just felt wrong, I guess. I mean you moved on, and when you did. So did I, left the hero life behind me.""I'm not disappointed." I said to her. "It's your choice.""That reminds me." Thea said holding an arrowhead out in her palm."What's this?" I asked grabbing it."Apparently, my Queens aren't the only one who's a big fan." She said chuckling."William?" I asked raising an eyebrow. She shook her head and laughed. "The other one.""Mia?" I asked shocked. "I've met Mia already, she didn't act like I was her hero.""You're not, her father is. But she's a big fan." Thea said. "And to be frank, you met her when her brother was kidnapped and at her father's funeral. I'm sure meeting you wasn't exactly at the top of her list.""I'll make sure I get this back to her."My phone buzzed.
"Get lost?" Bart had texted me."On my way." I texted back."Hey, I gotta swing. I'm crashing at the West-Allen's for the time being."She laughed. "This is me anyway." She said looking up at the apartment. "Come by anytime, see you around Spidey." She said giving me a hug.I hugged her back before I flicked my wrist and caught the top of the building as I swung myself into the air.
It was good seeing Thea again, she got her happy ending. I just hoped it would stay that way. Thinking about it now, Team Flash was all but gone. No Flash, no Frost, no Joe and Cecile, Cisco had been long gone, So Were Allegra and Chester. I came to the future expecting everything to be the same as I left it. I guess when you disappear for thirty years that's not possible. Was I wrong to come here? Should I have stayed? A part of me wanted to take that Velocity Ten and run all the way back where I was comfortable. But I knew I couldn't do that. Not now.I had to at least give it a chance for her. Change is never easy. No matter how much you want it to be.I was so caught up in my thoughts I didn't even realize I had overshot the apartment and missed the building with my webs, and I was free falling to the street. I quickly webbed the side of the building and pulled myself into it.
I counted up the windows to make sure I was crawling into the right apartment as I used my hands to open the window and crawl inside. "I miss when our crime scenes used to be metahuman murders." I said leaning back in the office chair as I continuously threw a ball into the air and catching it as it came back down. Nora looked up from her microscope that she had been studying a DNA sample in.I shrugged as I caught the ball and didn't throw it again as my attention turned towards Nora West-Allen.
"Yeah sure, it made the city way more dangerous but it sure was a lot less boring." Nora gave a quick hmph in agreement before returning to her work, our work technically. "How's your mom?" Nora asked out of the blue.I was so caught off guard by that question I nearly fell out of my chair."I meant Autumn, I would never ask about the woman you knew as your mom." She said as her face went soft."I know, I know." I said walking over to the desk she was working at and sat on the corner of it. "Just caught me off guard, but Autumn. She's good, her and my dad both were extremely confused but I think they ended up understanding? I hope." I took a deep breath. "Honestly, I still have trouble remembering it myself."Nora smiled and patted my knee. "I can help." She took a scratch piece of paper and a pen and began to draw."This was the original timeline." She said drawing a circle, being born from Autumn all the way to quantum taking me through time. She then drew another circle with 1995 drawn over it and under it said When your grandmother birthed you with a line drawn all the way to now."So, when you were born Autumn and Richard knew you as their son. You were taking and they were destroyed that they had lost their only child. You being a temporal anomaly didn't make them forget you or change the timeline. It only resulted in you being born from your grandmother instead." Nora started."Amanda." I said to her. "That was her name."Nora smiled. "It's a pretty name."We smiled at each other before continuing. "Now, Autumn still has the memories of you being born in twenty twenty three. That part doesn't change because physically, you were there. But she still has the Memories of her brother Damian Abbott who disappeared in twenty twenty one. Which is why she fought with your father to name you Peter after her late brother." She said the final part holding up two fingers in quotes."That makes it so much easier to wrap my head around." I said feeling a heavy weight lifting off my chest."Don't be ashamed if it doesn't all make sense. Dad and I still have trouble thinking about it ourselves." She said patting my leg again."So, technically I was Peter Parker first but I have memories of being Damian Abbott Which one does that make me?" I asked standing up.Nora crossed one leg over the other from behind her desk. "That's for you to decide. You get to be whoever you want to be. Spiderman or Tachyon. Damian Abbott or Peter Parker."The radio on the table started to talk and I instinctively looked out the window of the precinct towards the sirens that had roared to life.I looked back to the clock and back at Nora. She gave me a chuckle. "It's late, we're good to go whenever."I just stood there and stared at her. "What are you still doing here?" She asked me as she shooed me out. "Go, be a hero. I'll see you back at the apartment."I smiled as I pressed the spider under my shirt as my familiar red, blue, and white suit formed over my skin.
I flicked my wrists and webbed myself up through the roof entrance before leaping off the building and swinging through the streets following the police cars.
It was a burglary in progress on the east side of Central City.
Nothing that I couldn't handle with relative ease. I landed on my hands on the hood of a parked police car and pushed myself off and flipped, landing on my feet. "What's is the situation, Captain?" I asked approaching Captain West. She looked me up and down before going along with the act. "Aren't you supposed to be working?" She asked me."My shift ended, living a double life is hard work." I said sarcastically. She ignored my comment. "Robbery, we believe it's gang affiliated. Sending you the specs now." She said tapping a few buttons into her phone that appeared in my lenses. "Woah, since when does Central City have gangs?" I asked astonished at the information about the Gang Cold War that was going on. The Westside Mafia, The Kingpins, and The Killmongers had been locked in a stalemated Cold War for the last three years. "Since the metahuman population dropped to almost zero." West said. "We can discuss this another time. They have a hostage, and I'm not sending in my men to sign their own death warrant." Wow, I see how it is." I said rolling my eyes under the mask. My mask began scanning for the best possible point of entry before it finally pinpointed a large ventilation shaft on the side of the building. "I got this." I said as I webbed the building and disappeared inside of the vent. I quietly crawled through the vents all the way to where a couple of masked men walked around with fully auto weapons in their hands. They were dressed in dark black suits everyone of them.
The man with the hostage had his guns pointed at him and wasn't moving. "Hurry up!" One of the patrols shouted into the vault before disappearing from view. I took my chance. I kicked open the vent and dropped down, simultaneously webbing the gun and yanking it out of his hands as I kicked him in the head on the way down. "You won't be needing that anymore." I said as his gun scattered to the floor and the bank teller ran out of the building in fear. "What was that?" The man who had just yelled came running back in. "Ah shit!" He yelled as he saw me. "It's the spider!" His gun instantly raised as I webbed the weapon laying across the bank and swung it around releasing it into his head. I made a point to web him to the ground before leaping inside of the vault.
"You know, dressing in all black doesn't help when it's light out." I said standing straight up and facing down the remaining three men. One of the men started firing instantly and time slowed as I quickly dodged bullets.I flipped over the remaining bullet and shook my head. "That's it, time out for you." I said as I slingshotted myself into him. He body bounded off the vault wall as he fell to the ground unconscious. "Can we please do this the easy way?" I asked sarcastically. "You don't shoot, and I don't cripple you for life. "A muzzle flashed out of the corner of my eye. "Alright, you made your choice." I said throwing a stack of money at him. The bullets ripped through the stack sending money into a cloud around him. He stopped firing in confusion right as I jumped at him from the side knocking him out cold. "You ruined the money." I fake pouted. "It's okay, the bank is insured two hundred and fifty thousand." I said turning to the next guy who had his hands raised and his gun on the ground while he trembled in fear. "See how easy that was?" I said shoving his hands behind back and webbing them before I webbed him to the wall. I walked out of the bank and put my hands up cheering. "No hostages harmed, and all Westside Robbers subdued." I said bowing to Captain West."Good work, Spiderman." She said to me. "You saved a life today, and possibly more if I had to send any of my men in."Thanks, hey you think I could scoop some of that money in there as like a "good job Spiderman. "Absolutely not." West said shaking her head as she ushered her men to secure the bank. "What about a day off?" I said pushing buttons. She rolled her eyes. "Go home, Spiderman. "I chuckled to myself as I jumped back into the sky and began swinging through the streets on my way back to the apartment.
