It took me a bit to figure out this book with the skipping it did from place to place at the start. Then once the story actually started what I read made since.

There is a pattern to her books- conflict and once mated moves to the next story. Each book gives hints about the upcoming war and how they will all come together to fight the ultimate bad guy. They are not stand alone books. It really is books you got to read in order for them to make since on what it is leading up to. Yes, there are some battles in each book.

The author has written several books and formed a series. Give them a try. I admit I read the first 4, but am putting the last 4 on hold. I plan to come back to them at a later date.  I just decided I needed a different story for a bite. 

Especially after the last rape. Yes this book does have abuse and rape scenes in it.
