read: 24.02.19 - 25.02.19

Summary

You're thirteen. All you want is a normal life. But most normal kids don't need heart transplants. So there's this doctor. He says there's a chance for you. But he also says it's experimental, controversial and risky. And it's never been done before.

Review

I just needed something that would be short, simple, but also enjoyable to read just to get me out of this reading slump. And I decided that this book was going to do it. Overall, I did enjoy the story, but it isn't one I would actively go out to read again.

Our main character Cameron has an unspecified heart condition which means he requires a transplant, and he is presented with the idea of having a transplant from a genetically modified pig. I actually quite liked Cameron, and I thought that his character development was really interesting. The conversation about life and death within this book was so abrupt, but also so interesting, and to see someone terminally ill go through the different thoughts about death was super interesting. I thought the ethical dimension aspect of the book (surrounding using a pig's heart) gave the book a really unique touch, and made the book more interesting because it raised a lot of questions about what it means to be human.

But there was something in the book that just didn't connect with me, so while it was a quite enjoyable read, it's not one that I am gushing about.
