Review
The hype surrounding this book was too powerful to avoid. Plus, I loved the idea of retelling a fairytale.
However, this book just felt a little bland for me. I wasn't a huge fan of Cinder; she didn't have the power or initiative which I think her character needed. As I've seen some people mention- she felt too human. Marissa Meyer both did and didn't go into enough detail about her status as an cyborg. I felt like there was a lot more than could have been played with to illuminate more aspects of her character.
Also, I'm sorry but that plot twist was so obvious. I saw it coming from a mile off, and what frustrated me was how rushed it felt.
However, I did like Prince Kai and I thought he was actually really well developed and explored, and I wish that he had been given more time in the book so that we could see more of his character. Okay, the romance was a bit 'insta-love' given that the pair had only interacted a few times, but I still felt that it was fitting given the fairytale it's based on.
So, overall, it was just a bit meh. I don't think I'll be continuing on with the series.
