How things change - PotC - James Norrington x Reader
For smartyarty22. A second part of the 'Norrington' story.
Life was not what it had been, the arrival of Jack Sparrow had seen to that. Will was no longer an apprentice blacksmith and (Y/n) no longer just Elizabeth Swann's companion, they were now......well, pirates, all of them. The twins having discovered that their father had also been a pirate; and that this father was aboard the Flying Dutchman, serving Davy Jones. Both of them determined to save him from his fate. Yet it wasn't just all this that had changed for (Y/n); the biggest change had been in her feelings towards a certain man. A man that once seemed to dog her every step, who appeared to enjoy the barbed and snide comments that he would send her way, but had fallen from grace. He had been stripped of his rank and all the pomp and ceremony, and when they had found him in Tortuga, or should that be when he had found Gibbs trying to sign up men for Jack's crew; while Jack had tried to hide, he was dishevelled and reeked of rum, threatening to kill Jack and anyone else, until Elizabeth had hit him over the head with a bottle of rum. That the first time (Y/n) had ever felt sorry for him; had seen just how much had been taken from him, and she couldn't help but let her heart go out to him. The once proud, pompous Commodore, forced to scrub the deck of a pirate ship. Yet it was this man......this now simple man, that she found respect for; realised that she had feelings for. But no matter her new feelings, she forced them down; it still obvious that the only one that Norrington would ever care for, was Elizabeth. So, when he had run to Beckett, a part of her had been relieved, for she knew that she would no longer have to see him every day. She would no longer have to watch as he looked up at Elizabeth. But as much as (Y/n) had hoped to never see him again, fate seemed to have had other plans, and here he was, aboard the Flying Dutchman; she doing her best not to listen to the conversation between Norrington and Elizabeth.
"Our destinies have been entwined Elizabeth but never joined." (Y/n) looking up as he spoke to see him kissing Elizabeth. She feeling her heart break, as she did her best to tear her eyes away from the pair.
"Go, now..........." The now admiral continued as they moved apart. The two looking at one another, before Elizabeth turned her attention to (Y/n).
"(Y/n), we must go............."
"No.......you go......you are needed. I am staying here.........."
"(Y/n)............"
"No, Elizabeth. Go........but tell Will.....tell him I am sorry, and that I love him........"
"Miss Turner.......(Y/n)......you must go............"
"Since when have I ever listened to you, Norrington. Here I am, and here I choose to stay. Go Elizabeth, now............" (Y/n) smiling sadly at her friend, before the new pirate captain reluctantly climbed onto the rope and quickly left.
"Back to your station, sailor.........." James said, as one of the Dutchman's crew appeared. (Y/n) covering her gasp, as she recognised her father coming from the gloom.
"No one leaves the ship.........."
"Stand down......that's an order....." The admiral warned, as Bootstraps moved closer.
"Part of the crew, part of the ship. Part of the crew, part of the ship. PART OF THE CREW, PART OF THE SHIP............"
"Steady man............" James called out, as her father said the words over and over again.
"ALL HANDS PRISONER ESCAPE..........."
"Belay that........." Norrington continued, pulling his musket out and pointing it, at the crewman. (Y/n) no longer able to standby; rushing out from the gloom to stand next to him. The pair hearing Elizabeth call for them to follow; but it felt obvious what was going to happen. The Navy man firing his musket at the rope that held the Govenor's daughter, before turning back only to see that (Y/n) had moved in front of him and had taken a blade to the belly.
"Go now, leave..........." (Y/n) gasped, turning to look at the shocked admiral.
"(Y/n).........." James catching her as she fell to the floor.
"Leave.......go be with Elizabeth. Go be with the woman you love.........." Tears welling in her eyes as she looked up at him.
"(Y/n).............."
"Please........James.........Let me die knowing that the man I am in love with, is alive........Go.........go........" She interrupted, pushing him away quickly, as she saw the other members of the crew coming. James not knowing what to think, say or feel as she smiled. Tears rolling down her cheeks as she watched him climb over the side of the ship, before everything went black.
>>---------------------------------<<
Norrington hadn't been the same since that night. He had barely said a word, even to Elizabeth. The former admiral unable to stop the jealousy that he felt; for even though both of the twins had died, even though they had both lost those they loved; at least Will's death had resulted in him now being the captain of the Dutchman, and she could see her husband on land, every ten years. But he.......he had nothing. (Y/n) had given her life for him, confessed her love for him; yet before he could tell her, explain to her about Elizabeth and his own true feelings, they had been parted. And now........now he had no one and nothing.
"James.............." The former admiral looking up; doing his best to smile as Elizabeth came into the room.
"I have something for you..........something that Will sent from the Dutchman............" His brows furrowing, as Elizabeth smiled.
James knew that Will blamed him for not only his sister's death, but for so many other things. So, why he would send him anything..............His eyes growing wide as Elizabeth opened the door wider and there stood (Y/n). The former Navy man almost falling over, as he got to his feet. It couldn't be.........he had seen her die........hadn't he......? Her own father had pushed a dagger into her; she had given her life so that he could get away. So, this couldn't be real.............
"Hello Norrington.........Fancy seeing you again........." (Y/n) said, as she made her way further into the room. Elizabeth quietly closing the door and leaving the pair. James gripping onto the back of the chair, as (Y/n) slowly walked towards him; a hundred questions coming to his mind as she stopped in front him. Yet before he could ask one of them, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her; the warmth in her lips telling him that this was real.......that it was all real, and that explanations as to how, could wait. Norrington only wanting her to know one thing as they finally moved apart. The thing that he should have been brave enough, man enough to tell her before..........
"I love you too, (Y/n).............."
