Tomboy - Avengers - Bruce x Reader
"Makeover!" Wanda exclaimed, as she and Natasha looked at a horrified (Y/n).
"Oh no. Non. Nien. Nyeht. And did I say, NO DEFINITELY NOT! I don't need a makeover. And anyway, I told you, I'm not going to the tin can's party. They are always the same. Full of fake people talking about how much money they have, and their latest rounds of plastic surgery. All very dumb and boring." (Y/n) replied, shaking her head. The team's resident tomboy backing away slowly as Wanda and Natasha smiled at her.
"But he'll be there, (Y/n). Tony said that he would be. And with just the right amount of makeup. Your hair done in a different style, and may I say, a dress. Bruce might finally realise what he's missing out on." Natasha chuckled. The widow and the witch both wondering what they could do with (Y/n)'s blank canvas.
From the day (Y/n) joined the team, it was obvious that she wasn't like the other girls. She was one of the guys, a tomboy through and through. Though that said, she still cut an amazingly striking figure. Her hair was always cut short, and she insisted on dyeing it all manner of unusual colours. The vibrancy of her hair only matched by the breathtaking artwork that covered both her arms and her back. And Natasha and Wanda were sure that they had never seen (Y/n) wear makeup, or anything but jeans and T-shirts since they had met her. The only thing ever covering her face, were the smudges of dirt and grease from the many projects that she had going on in her workshop; or from helping Steve with his old bike, and Tony with his hot rod. The only time the tomboy seeming to care about the schmutz, was when a certain Bruce Banner came into view. The tomboy always wiping her face and brushing her fingers through her hair when she lay eyes on him. Prompting Natasha and Wanda to decide that they had had enough of watching their friend pine away. Deciding that Starks latest little shindig was the opportune time to help the object of (Y/n)'s adoration, see that she was all woman.
"I know he'll be there. But I'm not getting all dressed up just so that Bruce will notice me. If he liked me, I wouldn't have to wear makeup or a stupid dress. If he liked me, he would like me for me. Jeans, T-shirts, dirty face, and all. If he liked me, he would have said something by now." (Y/n) protested. Knowing that it would take more than mascara and lipstick for the seemingly oblivious Banner to even notice that she existed.
"Oh please, (Y/n). This is Bruce we are talking about. He doesn't notice most things unless they are covered in equations. And you know that he is the silent type. He probably can't summon up the courage to talk to you." Wanda giggled as she circled (Y/n). Her wicked little grin making (Y/n) more and more nervous by the second.
"Look. We promise that we won't do much. Just a little here and there. Enough to show Bruce that you are the belle of the ball. Plus, if Stark makes one of his not so subtle innuendoes in your direction, it might force Bruce's hand. And if it doesn't, you know that it's time to stop pining and find a guy that does like you." Natasha reasoned as (Y/n) looked at herself in the mirror and ran her fingers through her unruly hair.
"Not too much, right?" (Y/n) asked hesitantly as the two other women loomed over her.
"We promise."

"Are you sure that this is going to work?" Bruce groaned as Tony helped him fix his bowtie. The doctor looking dapper in his tuxedo that Tony had insisted that he have tailored for the evening.
"Of course, its gonna work, Bruce. Have a little faith. If there is one thing I know, it's how to impress a lady. And even though she doesn't look like it most of the time, under all that axel grease and engine oil, (Y/n) is definitely all woman. So, just put yourself in the hands of old uncle Tony, here." Tony chuckled as he smoothed down Bruce's lapels.
Tony had lost count of how many times he had watched the doctor blush when he had stepped close to the team's tomboy. How many times he had heard Bruce sigh when she walked past the labs. And the billionaire had to admit that this lovesick puppy routine of Bruce's was getting a little nauseating, and that both his friend and (Y/n) needed a little push in the right direction. Tony knowing that a little party could be just the thing to bring the two together. And he had not found it difficult to get Wanda and Nat to agree to help him with his little plan.
"Not bad, Banner. I mean, you're not me, but no one is perfect. Apart from me, of course. But not bad. And if you don't catch (Y/n)'s eye tonight, then you can stop pining away and find a girl that does like you." Tony said, as he turned Bruce to look at himself in the mirror. The doctor not knowing whether any of this was a good idea. But to get Tony of his back, he was willing to give it a go.
"Are you sure that (Y/n) is even going to be there? I mean, she doesn't come to any of your other parties." Bruce sighed, as he brushed his fingers through his hair.
"That's true. Maybe if I put engine parts and V8 blocks on every table, I wouldn't be able to keep her away. But this time she is coming. Wanda and Nat have persuaded her. Now come on. Let's get you to this party before you change your mind." (Y/n) chuckled. Placing his hand on his friend's shoulder and steering him out of the room.
>>----------------------------------<<
"Oh my god, (Y/n). You look beautiful." Wanda almost squealed, as she and Natasha looked at their masterpiece.
"I look like Coco the damn clown. And this is not a dress! It's a belt with spaghetti straps." (Y/n) huffed as she looked at herself in the mirror. The little black dress that Nat had lent her for the evening leaving very little to the imagination. And for a girl used to jeans and T-shirts, the whole afternoon had been tantamount to torture.
"One sneeze in this thing, and I'll end up naked. And it won't be just Bruce noticing me then." Jeez, all I need is a stripper pole." (Y/n) griped. Regretting ever letting the assassin and witch talk her into this.
"Will you stop moaning. You look perfect. Now come on. Let's get you to this party before you change your mind." Natasha replied, as she and Wanda took hold of (Y/n)'s arms and pulled her from the room.
>>----------------------------------<<
"She's not coming. I knew that she wouldn't come." Bruce groaned. Tony slapping his hand away as Bruce began to fiddle with his tie.
"Stop complaining. Leave your tie alone. And be patient. It's a lady's prerogative to be late. You can't rush perfection." Tony assured. His eyes lighting up as he saw the doors to the room open. Wanda and Nat looking around the gathering. The billionaire's eyes growing wider as they finally fell on (Y/n).
"Wow! Now I wasn't expecting that." Tony said. Turning Bruce's head so that he could see exactly what he was seeing. Bruce's mouth dropping open as he saw (Y/n)'s slightly uncomfortable looking, but still beautiful form.
"Next time (Y/n) is working under my hot rod; I am going to have completely different thoughts about her." Tony hummed until Bruce punched him in the arm.
"You're supposed to be helping me get the girl. And you have any such thoughts about (Y/n), and you could end up with a code green." Bruce warned. Tony holding up his hands in surrender.
"Would I ever have anything but platonic thoughts about (Y/n)? Though I must admit that that dress is making it very difficult. So, Casanova. May I suggest that you make your move before someone else does." Tony said. Placing two glasses of champagne into Bruce's hands and pushing him in the direction of the three women.
>>----------------------------------<<
"He's not here. I knew that he wouldn't be here. I'm going back to my room to get into something that doesn't make me look like a hooker." (Y/n) grumbled as she turned to leave, only to find her way barred by Natasha and Wanda. Natasha turning her head in the direction of where Bruce was slowly making his way through the crowd.
"Well, doesn't he look handsome in his tuxedo?" Wanda said, not failing to notice how (Y/n)'s eyes seemed to be fixed on the oncoming doctor. A soft pink glow on her cheeks as Bruce moved ever closer.
"We're just going to get a drink, (Y/n). See you later." Natasha chuckled. Both she and Wanda rolling their eyes as (Y/n) appeared to have not heard a single word that they had said.
"I er.......I brought you this." Bruce said, holding out the glass of champagne for (Y/n) to take. The doctor not really sure what else to say as (Y/n) smiled at him.
"Oh, thank........thank you, Bruce. You.......you look very handsome by the way. I don't think that I have ever seen you in a tux before. It suits you." (Y/n) replied, as she took the glass from Bruce, wishing that she could come up with something much wittier to say.
"Well.......well you look beautiful, (Y/n). I mean.......I mean you always look beautiful. More than beautiful. It's just tonight you look a different kind of beautiful." Bruce blurted out. The doctor wishing that Tony had given him a little bit of his bravado, as well as his pep talk.
"Thank you. But I must confess that I feel a little ridiculous. In truth........well in truth, Bruce. I am only here because the girls told me that you would be. And I'm only dressed like this, cos they said that it might get you to notice me." (Y/n) confessed. Knowing that it was now or never, as she gulped down the contents of her glass.
"Wait. You want to get me to notice you? But........I'm only dressed like a penguin because Tony said that it would get you to notice me. I didn't think that you knew I existed, what with all the others taking up your time. I thought........I like you, (Y/n). A lot. And I was hoping that we could.......that we could spend some more time together. Maybe, maybe go out or something." Bruce told her in disbelief. Both he and (Y/n) realising that they had been incredibly stupid. And had also been caught in one of Tony's little schemes.
"You don't want to be here do you, Bruce?" (Y/n) asked as she took his glass from his hand. A broad smile spreading across her lips as the doctor shook his head.
"Good. Because neither do I. So, what do you say to us both going to get changed into something a little more comfortable? And then I'll take you to this great mom and pop diner I know in Queens?" (Y/n) continued, as she held out her arm for Bruce to take.
"That sounds great, (Y/n). Then maybe you can show me what you have been working on in your workshop. All that banging and crashing in there has got me intrigued." Bruce replied enthusiastically as he took (Y/n)'s arm and escorted her out of the room. The pair talking happily as they left. Bruce and (Y/n) leaving behind them a smiling Tony, Natasha and Wanda. The three knowing that their little plan had worked perfectly. And tomboy or not, (Y/n) had finally got her man.
