07 - THE PLAN

BEING STUCK ON TITAN WITH THE "GUARDIANS" (as they called themselves) was interesting, to say the least. Mantis was enjoying the odd gravity situation as she bounced in the air much to the entertainment of Kaelyn and Peter. Of course, their impending doom was nearing with every second they spent on this planet, but Kaelyn tried not to think about that as she sat with Peter's arm around her.

"Hey," she muttered to get his attention. With a small smile on her face, she lifted her hand with her pinky out, "pinky promise we're gonna get out of this one?"

Without hesitating, Peter wrapped his pinky around hers and kissed her on the cheek. Whispering in her ear he said, "Pinky promise."

In all this utter chaos and destruction, Kaelyn was grateful for one thing and that was always going to be Peter. Throughout everything, the two were together. Even unimaginable things like being stranded on an alien planet. Through thick and thin, she had Peter. Kaelyn liked to imagine what their life would be like without the superhero stuff. If their biggest worries were things like what to get each other for Christmas and when he's going to ask her to the next dance, but that would never be them. It was never meant for them. Kaelyn had a lot of regrets, but Peter wasn't one of them, neither was the life they lived. They might be stuck, but at least they had each other.

"The hell happened to this planet?" Peter Quill asked. The question wasn't quite directed towards anyone as it hung dryly in the air as the group observed their surroundings. "It's eight degrees off its axis. Gravitational pull is all over the place."

"Yeah, we got one advantage. He's coming to us," Tony observed. Kaelyn held in a giggle as she watched Mantis take advantage of the lack of gravitational pull. If this weren't an incredibly serious matter, Kaelyn would otherwise be tempted to join her. "We'll use it. All right, I have a plan! Or at least the beginnings of one. It's pretty simple. We draw him in, pin him down, get what we need. Definitely don't wanna dance with this guy. We just want the gauntlet. Are you yawning?"

Tony had turned to Drax who was yawning quite obnoxiously. Kaelyn held in a gentle laugh as Peter laced their fingers together and pulled him against her. She was afraid of every moment moving forward, but having Peter here was all the comfort she needed. Of course, Kaelyn was her own woman who could get shit done, but even with the weight of her independence on her shoulders she simply needed to be held sometimes. This was, without a doubt, the most dangerous situation Kaelyn had ever been in, hell, she was on another planet. She was not going to be the first to admit it out loud, but she was afraid.

"Are you okay?" Peter whispered in her ear and she wanted to scoff. What a stupid question, but she couldn't blame him for being concerned.

Although, the last thing she wanted was for Peter to be worried about her in all of this, so naturally, she lied, "Of course, I'm okay. Tony has a plan, this'll be a piece of cake."

"When has anything with us ever been a piece of cake, Ms. Red Riding Hood?" Peter's tone was meant to be joking, but it only made Kaelyn more worried. Of course, it did, everything did.

She honestly didn't mind being on another planet all that much because it was hard to think about if your parents were spies hoping to gain intel on S.H.I.E.L.D and Tony Stark or not when you don't have a cellphone plan that spans across the galaxy. Maybe, just maybe if she was lucky enough, they would make it out of this alive and things on earth would simply take care of themselves while she took care of this. She huffed, knowing it would never be that simple.

Hearing the Guardians argue with Tony was more overwhelming than it should have been and Kaelyn couldn't take it, so she exclaimed right in the middle of the conversation, getting their attention, "Enough with this shit, please? A house divided cannot stand so can we all just shut up and think of a solid plan we all agree on? We don't know how much time we have left and we don't know how dangerous this guy really is so while we're all stuck on a stupid planet together let's just get along? We kind of have a world to save or something like that."

"Well, that's not going to go down in my book of superhero speeches, but you have a point," Tony sighed before turning to Peter Quill, "Look, we need a plan."

"Well you see, "not winging it" isn't really what they do," Peter explained in reference to Drax and Mantis.

Upon hearing this, the much younger Peter motioned to the pair, asking, "Uh, what exactly is it that they do?"

"Kick names, take ass," was Mantis's answer and Kaelyn sighed placing her head in her hand.

"We're all gonna die," she muttered to herself before looking up at Tony and speaking louder, "We're all gonna die!"

"We are not all going to die," Tony reassured, but he hardly sounded like he believed it. Kaelyn was used to being lied to, but she didn't appreciate being lied to when her life, as well as the lives of those she loved, were hanging in the balance. God, she needed some time with Beth. She missed her best friend more than anything. Beth always knew what to do and how to get shit done. "Just get over here, please. Mr. Lord, can you get your folks to circle up?"

The blond scoffed, ""Mr. Lord," Star-Lord is fine."

He motioned for the others to join them and Tony brought Kaelyn and Peter over closer so they were less spread out before he began speaking. Hopefully, he was going to announce some sort of plan, but Kaelyn was losing faith in that happening. "We gotta coalesce. 'Cause if all we come at him with is a plucky attitude..."

"Dude, don't call us plucky," Star-Lord interrupted, "We don't know what it means. All right, we're optimistic, yes. I like your plan. Except, it sucks so let me do the plan and that way, it might be really good."

"Tell him about the dance-off to save the universe," Drax interjected which opened Kaelyn up to roughly a hundred questions. However, there was no time for that. She would have to ask about that later, though.

Tony furrowed his brow, "What dance-off?"

"It's nothing," Quill stammered.

"Like, in Footloose the movie?"

"Exactly like Footloose," Peter explained which seemed to make the younger Peter happy enough. "Is it still the greatest movie in history?"

This caused Kaelyn to scoff and Peter had a similar reaction saying, "It never was."

"Don't encourage this, all right?" Tony chastised with a sigh as he looked from the kid to the Guardian, "We're getting no help from Flash Gordon here."

Star-Lord seemed to only be motivated by this which Kaelyn found utterly annoying. God, could they just get something done? She was sick of the squabbling that kept occurring between Tony and Quill and if they weren't all stuck on this planet, she would have left ages ago.

"You two are grown men behaving like children and it is driving me insane. I cannot listen to this shit anymore, I don't care who comes up with a plan, all I care about is if we have one or not!" Kaelyn exclaimed angrily, about two seconds away from grunting and stomping her foot like any other teenage girl would, "My parents came back from the dead, I miss my best friend, and I refuse to die surrounded by you idiots! Can we please just come up with something?"

There was a steady silence, but just as they were about to go in on the quarreling all over again, Mantis interrupted, "Excuse me, but does your friend often do that?"

Everyone turned to face Doctor Strange, who looked as though he was phasing in and out of existence. It was eerie to watch, so much so that Kaelyn stumbled back into Peter and held onto him as if she were in some sort of danger.

"Strange, we all right?" Tony walked up to him slowly before he snapped out of it and fell to the ground with a startled gasp. "You're back, you're all right."

They all crowded around him, waiting for him to speak, "Hi."

"Hey, what was that?"

Looking around with a concerned expression, he explained, "I went forward in time to view alternate futures. To see all possible outcomes of the coming conflict."

"How many did you see?" Star-Lord asked, sounding worried.

"Fourteen-million-six-hundred-and-five," he spoke breathlessly.

Tony was the next to ask a question, "And how many do we win?"

"One."

Kaelyn sighed, "Yup, we're all gonna die."
