Chapter One

it became my business

3rd person pov

Sofia hawthorne laid in her bed as she did her homework. Her headphones sat in her ears as she flipped through her books highlighting the needed information. She stared at the pages as an audiobook played in her headphones and she smiled when the male main character finally kissed the female main character. 

She stared at the pages as she got sick of them quickly and she decided to take a break from it. She knew that she at least needed a break from it all and so she decided to go for a run. She didn't have anyone to call or text and she didn't have anyone to meet and so she put on her running clothes and she left her house. 

She began to leave her house and she did it quickly too. She took the route that she knew best and she began to run it. She hated that she sat in her bed and did nothing else ever. Her life was boring and if she kept having to read and write, she would throw herself out of a window and into an oncoming car. 

By the time it was dark, she was in reseda. She was walking by the gas station and she saw kyler get out of the car with the others and she stopped to take a deep breath as she stared at them walking into the store. She watched closely as they pushed a guy out of the store and attacked him 

"god damn it" she said as she ran over and stared at kyler before she walked over to the guy and helped him off the ground as she looked at kyler and then the others 

"oh look at that, little miss perfect is protecting him" he said and she scoffed as she helped the kid up and he stared at her but she didn't give him a single look. She kept her eyes on kyler and brucks 

"why do you guys have to be such assholes all the time?" she questioned and he stared at her 

"move on hawthrone, this has nothing to do with you" he told her and she stared at him 

"the second you decided that you needed to be an asshole to a kid you didn't even know, it became my business. Just leave him alone and give him his shit back" She exclaimed and Kyler held up the pepto bismol 

"oh you mean this? seems someone has diarrhea" he said 

"we should call him rhea" brucks said and sofia snapped her head to him with a sneer

"hey brucks, remember that time you pissed yourself in front of everyone and people began to call you piss bitch? shut the fuck up" she told him and she turned to kyler as she held her hand out 

"give it back" she said and he went to hand it to her but ended up pouring it on the kids head and sofia scoffed as she finally punched kyler in the face and he fell to the ground as she looked at the others. Miguel stared at her in shock before brucks shoved her into the car and finally the man sitting on the sidewalk spoke up 

"hey, watch the car man" he called out and sofia turned to the kid as she ignored what the others said and she let the guy handle kyler and the others. She took her sweatshirt off as she began to wipe the pepto bismol off of his face and he stared at her 

"you don't have to do this" he told her and she scoffed with a shake of her head 

"kyler is an asshole, don't let him get to you" she said as she continued to lightly remove it from his face. 

"thanks, im miguel" he said and she laughed as she finished doing what she was doing and stepped back 

"sofia, its nice to meet you miguel, wish we didn't have to meet under this circumstance though" she exclaimed and he smiled at her before they heard the sound of groaning and grunting. They saw that the guy had beaten kyler and the others but the cops got called and he got detained. 

That night sofia went home and she watched miguel go his separate way. She smiled at miguel as he gave her his phone number in case he ever needed to be saved by her again. She smiled at the idea of saving him because it would mean that she had a friend now and she had never had one before. A friend, it sounded nice to be able to go to someone and be their friend. 

Even if she met miguel because he was getting his ass handed to him and she needed to save him, she had a friend now. She wasn't alone anymore and she liked it. She still went home and did her school work and she still texted him when she got bored and she still managed to let him know that she was there for him no matter what. 

She thought she was being annoying, he thought she was being a kind, nice, caring person. She was his first friend in the city and it felt nice. Neither of them would be alone anymore and that was because they had each other.
