five | EXES

You see, normally, anyone would be mortified to see their ex after they've broken up with them.

Then again, Cheryl and Luna weren't technically the most orthodox couple.

So naturally, when Cheryl quickly caught wind of Luna's arrival as a result of Reggie seeing the trio talking at the edge of town, she basically jumped the 10 blocks it took to get from the hospital to Luna's old house.

Cheryl sat on the steps, praying that this is where Luna would be and that Reggie wasn't screwing with her.

She frequently got up briefly to adjust her white dress, she was sure there would be stains but in this moment all she cared about was seeing Luna again.

As much as she'd like the opposite to be true, she still had feelings for her, but if she couldn't be in a relationship with her the next best thing was a really close friendship.

Cheryl's head shot up at the sound of a car, but she sighed and lowered her head when she realized that the car did not belong to Luna.

Her phone rang and she looked down at the screen, rolling her eyes and hitting 'decline' at the look of one of her 'bitches' (as Luna liked to call them) names. SHe only cared about one thing right now and that was—

The girl who was pulling up the driveway right about now.

Luna hit pause on her phone, they had just dropped Veronic and Archie off at Archie's and she was glad to finally be back in Riverdale, it almost felt like nothing had changed.

Then again, everyone seemed to have changed drastically at the same time.

She knew they were hiding something, she just didn't know what...

"Lu?"

"Hm?" Luna turned her head to her mother.

"Cheryl's on our steps."

Luna chuckled, "Wha-"

Her laugh was cut off when she saw the redhead in the white dress stand up and smooth down the front of what Cheryl considered casual attire.

Luna opened the car door almost immediately.

Honestly, Luna still loved Cheryl too, but she knew it wouldn't be good for anyone if they were together.

It was best for both of them, and they both knew that they just didn't necessarily want to accept it.

Luna looked towards Ophelia who nodded in approval.

Luna ran towards Cheryl as she stopped trying to hide her huge smile, Luna jumped into her arms and they held each other tightly.

She wanted nothing more than to grab her face and kiss her with all she had.

To feel her soft red lips against hers and grasp her hips.

But they couldn't do that, not anymore at least, and it took all of Luna's strength to bury her head into Cheryl's long red hair instead.

Cheryl didn't want to let go, this felt too good, this felt like home.

But they couldn't stay like this forever.

It felt like there were so many restrictions when it came to them.

Cheryl held on tighter than Luna, and soon she couldn't breathe so Luna ad to force Cheryl off.

They looked at each other and chuckled, but Luna groaned when her mom whistled behind them, "Get a room!"

Cheryl laughed, "I love your mom."

Luna looked over her shoulder at Ophelia, "I love my mom too."

She was glad that her mom was accepting and she wasn't going to judge her for being, well, not straight.

Cheryl couldn't say the same for her mom, but she didn't want to tell her now. Or she could.

Her mother was wrapped around her finger, and she smiled almost sadistically at the thought.

Cheryl was absolutely stunning, and Luna would quite possibly sell her soul to be with Cheryl again.

With all these thoughts roaming their minds, the two could barely speak to each other.

"Hi."

"Hi."

"How's your new town?"

"Boring, Riverdale was fun."

"Cool."

"Cool...wanna come inside?"

Cheryl winked and Luna scoffed, "You're disgusting."

"No, I'm hilarious," Cheryl corrected.

"Just for that you can stay outside Cheryl Bombshell," she laughed at the sound of her nickname rolling off of Luna's tongue.

"No, I'll be good, I promise," and Luna smiled.

"That's a song, you know."

"Hm? What's a song?"

"I'll Be Good, by Jaymes Young, it's pretty good you might like it," Luna shrugged.

"Would I?" Cheryl questioned and Luna nodded.

"Yes, you would."

They stayed on the steps for a while, each holding the other's hand and staring into each other's eyes, and they would have stayed like that forever if not for Ophelia.

"Okay, I get that reunions are pretty great, but I am not lifting your god damn 50-pound suitcase out the car. You're staying for like what, 2 days? Who needs this much clothes for 2 days?!"

Luna turned around and laughed, "Coming, mom!"

She turned back to Cheryl, "Meet me on the couch."

Cheryl nodded, "Will do, sir."

Luna chuckled to herself at Cheryl's new nickname as she walked to the car and unloaded her things.

Once it was all in the house, Luna found herself in the living room with Cheryl —the two were snuggled up together comfortably, Cheryl's face rested in between Luna's neck and her collarbone.

"So, overnight?"

"Mhm."

"Why'd you come back? Not that I'm complaining."

"A friend invited me."

Cheryl furrowed her eyebrows, "A friend? Which friend?"

Luna laughed at the tinge of jealousy in Cheryl's tone, "An old friend. Her name is Ilana, but I call her Lana sometimes."

"Why is Ilana so important," Cheryl began, hissing the word and saying it carefully, acting like if the word was said the wrong way something oh so horrible would happen. "and we're not?"

"We?"

"Your original Riverdale friends? Veronica, Betty, Archie, Kevin, Jughead, me."

"Of course you guys are important," Luna shifted herself, planning her next words carefully. She knew that if in these next moments she said anything wrong, she might as well just jump in a coffin. "it's just that she's...more important?"

"What?" Cheryl scoffed, picking her head up.

Luna made a mental note to plan her funeral.

"No, not like that," Luna stumbled over her words. "but, like, we've been friends longer...and I haven't seen her in ages..."

Cheryl raised her eyebrows, "Tell me about her, this all-important Lana."

At least she used her nickname this time.

"We were friends ever since I was in diapers, I think, and then she had a mental breakdown of sorts. Long story short, she checked herself into a mental hospital and this is the first time in forever that I've heard from her," Luna confessed.

Cheryl nodded slowly, "I guess she means a lot to you, then."

Luna smiled and confirmed her statement by giving her a small nod.

"Does she mean more than me?"

Shit.

There was no right way to answer this question.

And in the best possible moment, the doorbell rang, and Luna hadn't truly known the meaning behind the phrase "saved by the bell" until this moment.

Cheryl knitted her brows together, "Who could it be?"

Luna shrugged but she more than happily got up to see who it was.

Once she reached the front entrance, she swung the door open and a smile quickly grew on her face.

"Hey, stranger!"
