CHAPTER ONE:
HOSPITAL BLUES

GINNY HOPKINS WAS JOLTED OUT OF THE DARKNESS by a voice yelling her name. She blinked groggily, pain shooting through her skull as the young girl adjusted to her surroundings. She identified Archie who was panicked, looking down at her, blood covering the totality of his body, shirt, and hands. Maybe a few minutes had passed since she was knocked out and she noticed Pop hovering in the distance with his phone up to his ear.

"Gin? Gin!"

"W-What–" Ginny began to piece together what had happened and jolted off of the ground and looked around.

"W-We gotta go!" Archie yelled at her as he moved back to his father and lifted him up with Pop's help. Ginny scrambled to follow, her head banging in pain from the gun hitting her over the head. What had happened and why was Fred Andrews shot?

Archie slammed his car door shut, his father in the middle of the truck with Ginny on the other side, tending to the wounded man.

"The ambulance was gonna take too long," Archie muttered to Ginny, his hands shaking as he attempted to insert the keys into the ignition.

Fred was going in and out of consciousness and it was worrisome.

"Hold on, Dad. We're almost there. We're almost there. They're gonna fix you up. Stay with me, Dad, stay with me." Archie was driving with one hand, the other one clutching his fathers weak one.

Ginny barely focused on Archie's terrible driving, keeping her hand pressed to the wound in order to keep the blood from pooling. She had no idea if she was doing it right– she hoped she was.

They had finally made it to the hospital and Ginny rushed out of the car, helping Archie drag his father indoors and towards a nurse.

"Help, please. Help, hey! Someone help my dad!" Archie's voice sounded broken as he called out for help.

A nurse poked her head out of the doorway to see the trio, immediately calling out for help. "Gurney!"

"What happened to him?"

"He was–He was shot." Archie choked out as reality became overbearing.

The nurses and doctor took over, bending over Fred to talk to him.

"Sir, can you hear me?" One asked, looking down at the older mans bleeding figure.

"Can you tell me your name?"

"His name's Fred Andrews." Archie told them but it seemed like they weren't even listening to the distressed young boy.

"He's not responding. Massive blood loss, it looks–" Nurse called out and Ginny looked on in shocked.

"Let's go. He's in shock."

Archie stepped forward, ready to follow the doctors and  Ginny stayed behind, watching in horror.

"Sir, I'm sorry, I need you to step away. One, two, three!" The machine began to beep rapidly.

"I'm right here, Dad, I'm right here. Okay.I'm right here.I'm right here." Ginny felt helpless as she watched her friend stare at his father, who was unable to help in anyway

Ginny pulled out her phone with shaky hands, horrified when she saw them stained with Mr. Andrews blood. She pressed Jughead's contact and held up the phone to her ear, waiting for an answer.

"Hello?" His voice was groggy on the phone, indicating he had just woken up from sleeping in since she had left him.

"Jug–" Tears began to form in Ginny's eyes but she had to stay strong as Archie wrung his hands nervously in wait. "C–Come to the hospital, now, Archie needs us."

"I'm on my way." Ginny hung up before he could say anything else. She couldn't say it over the phone. She knew that Jughead would call the others as well.

Virginia just prayed the Fred was going to be okay.

GINNY WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM when Jughead Jones burst into the room, frantically looking around for his best friends. His eyes landed on his girl who he walked right up to. Ginny stood quickly as he approached, letting him wrap his arms around her. Her small arms wrapped around his waist and she felt her eyes fill with tears in the comfort of her love's embrace.

Virginia Hopkins had been checked out from the hospital after they checked her out, noting she had a concussion and a very large bump on her forehead.

Betty and Veronica came in right behind Jughead, disturbing the couples reunion. The two pulled apart unwillingly but a light kiss pressed to her forehead gave Ginny reassurance.

"Arch? God," Betty breathed out as she pulled the red headed boy into a hug.

"I came out of the bathroom and there was this man, thief–Wearing this hood, with a gun on Pop Tate, and then he pointed it at Ginny who was in front of my dad and he hurt Ginny before shooting my dad."

Jughead's grip on Ginny tightened and he looked down at the brunette girl with a distressed look sent to her. She exhaled sharply as Archie told the story in its entirety. She didn't even know what had happened because it had happened so quickly.

Veronica inhaled slowly as Archie told the story, her hands resting on his arms in comfort. "Oh, my God, Archie."

"And then he–" Archie looked away, wringing his heads.

"And then he what?" Jughead asked, his eyes narrowed at his best friends hesitation.

"And then he bolted. Then I was holding my dad, Pop Tate called an ambulance and it didn't come so I drove here and–" Archie sighed as he continued speaking. "And I don't know, maybe I should've waited, maybe I made it worse–"

"No, dude, are you kidding me? You saved your dad's life. First Cheryl, and now your dad. If you keep this up, you're gonna need a superhero name. Like Pureheart the Powerful."

Before anything else could be said, the doctor approached the group.

"There isn't any new information. Your dad's in surgery. He's gonna be there for a while." The man told Archie, a look of sympathy on his face. His hands held onto a clipboard and a bag.

"Uh, Archie. Have you spoken to your mother about any of this yet?" The question startled Archie from his thoughts and he shook head as he thought of his mom.

"No. No, I haven't called her. I'll be right back." Archie walked away from the group and Ginny's heart broke for the lost boy.

"What?" Jughead asked, pulling Ginny back to the conversation.

Betty rolled her eyes, everyone focused on Alice Cooper whose beady eyes stared Jughead done. "Mom. Do not start this."

"Start what?" Ginny asked, confused.

"Well, of course, I can't help but wonder if your Southside associates had anything to do with what happened to Fred." Alice spoke up, and both Ginny and Jughead grew defensive.

"Unbelievable," Jughead scoffed. "At least you can't accuse my father of being the shooter, considering he's in jail."

"Stop bugging Jughead just because he isn't dating your daughter anymore." Ginny added. "Bring bitter over a failed romance does not mean you should obsess over the wrongs of Jughead or the Southside Serpents."

Ginny felt proud as she pulled Jughead away from the group, Alice Cooper was a bitch.
