AFTER LEARNING ABOUT the events of the sacrifice, Melody stayed away from the Boarding House. Jenna's death, John's death, Elijah's betrayal, and Damon's werewolf bite were only the beginning of the aftereffects. Melody couldn't bring herself to look the others in the eye (she had already mentally called herself a coward several times because of it).
It had been over two days since Klaus broke his curse. Both Elijah and Klaus were nowhere to be found, though everyone was expecting them to show up soon. Just as expected, the others had found out about Melody's deal with Klaus. And the only ones who weren't upset were Stefan and Caroline. Damon was dying, he blamed it on her, as did Elena.
That was enough to keep her away until nightfall. When night did approach, she'd use her magic to teleport to her room instead of actually using the front door. Damon was on house arrest and was put in the cellar.
Melody had spent many hours over the last two days just thinking. And she mentally cursed herself because it was always about Klaus or something to do with him. Stefan had called her not too long ago, begging for her to come back to the Boarding House. To her disappointment, she forced herself to decline.
She knew that with their determination, they'd find a cure for Damon's bite. They didn't even need her help. And besides, Melody would be long gone by the time they did find a cure. However, there wasn't a doubt in her mind that there was a cure out there somewhere. And she knew who probably would have an answer.
The fairytale woman knocked on the door with a loud bang. "Klaus!" He opened the door with a smirk. "I need your help—" Melody stopped short when she saw Stefan in the apartment along with Katherine, Elijah's desiccated body on the floor with a dagger protruding from his chest nearby. Her eyes widened. "I'll just come back later..."
"There's no need for that, love," Klaus waved off. He grabbed her arm and brought her inside the apartment. "I was just about to come and get you."
Melody's eyes diverted to Stefan. He looked concerned for her. "Melody, leave. You can't trust him."
She pursed her lip and then narrowed her eyes at him. "I don't Stefan. But I made him a promise." Her eyes went to Klaus. "I assume Stefan is here asking for the cure."
A smirk founds its way to his face. "Indeed he is. And I assume you're here for the same?" Melody didn't answer because he already knew the answer. "Go on, ask me."
Her magic burned in her veins when he said that. Klaus's voice was chilling, though it was soothing. But that's just who he was. Klaus was the person who — depending on how you treat them — could kill you in less than a second, but also be the most caring person on the planet. "I want you to tell me the cure for a werewolf bite. So Damon doesn't die."
Klaus took a step toward her and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, brushing his knuckles against her soft cheek. "You sure that's what you want?"
Shivers ran down her spine but she managed to keep her voice even, not fueling his pride. "Yes. Now give me the cure."
He chuckled. Stefan watched in horror, just waiting for the moment Klaus killed her. Katherine, on the other hand, was watching with sheer curiosity. Never had she seen Klaus act so calm. "So demanding. As you wish." Klaus turned to Katherine and waved her over. "Katerina, come here."
Katherine complied and went over to him. Melody watched as Klaus bite into Katherine's arm. Instantly, a bite appeared and the doppelganger screamed. He let her suffer for a few moments before biting into his own wrist, then feeding it to Katherine. The bite healed, leaving Stefan and Melody shocked. "You want your cure? There it is."
"Your blood is the cure," Stefan realized.
Melody closed her eyes as she let the realization sink in. Klaus smirked at Stefan. "Gotta love Mother Nature." She opened her eyes back up to look at them. Klaus put a hand on Stefan's shoulder. "Now...Let's talk, you and I."
Klaus glanced over at the fairytale woman before going over to the bar. He pulled out a vial and a knife. He began cutting his hand, allowing blood to pour into the small container. Melody winced, realizing that Klaus hadn't flinched at all.
Once he finished, he set the knife down and then held the vial that was now full of his blood. "There it is. You want to save your brother? How 'bout a decade-long bender?" The question was aimed at Stefan. The younger Salvatore noticed and questioned in his head why Klaus wouldn't say anything about Melody. Sure, he knew that the two had made a deal, but why was she so important to him? "And I have big plans for you when we leave this town."
Melody spoke up. "Just let him go, Klaus. I'm leaving town with you, isn't that enough?"
He looked over at her. "Of course it is. But unfortunately, I can't always give you what you want."
That offended her and she looked taken aback. "Excuse me? That wasn't a request, it was a demand. Stefan is my friend. And in case you haven't noticed, Stefan isn't like that anymore. He's a better person."
Klaus would've apologized, but he didn't. "Well, that's too bad."
He was infuriating. The smirk on his face made her want to scream, punching it off of him. The way he talked to her like a child made her want to take the knife he was previously holding and chop off his hand. When that thought entered her mind, Killian did and she immediately scratched that idea out.
Blood began to pour into the sink and Stefan exclaimed, "Wait" while Melody used her magic to move his hand back up, so the blood had stopped pouring.
The Original looked at them. "Now that's more like it. I want you to join me for a drink." He slid a blood bag to Stefan. Melody was about to protest when Klaus held a hand up, silencing her. Stefan took it and then took a sip from the blood bag slowly. Melody had faith in Stefan that he could control himself. But if he had too much... "Finish it. All of it. You do everything I say, and I save your brother. That's the deal."
Melody was forced to witness Stefan drain a total of six blood bags. Klaus would keep throwing him another one. She couldn't take it anymore. "Klaus, stop!" He went to reply when she cut him off. "I mean it. If you give him another one, you can kiss us both goodbye. And I can take your blood in one motion, heal Damon, and you'll never be able to find us."
He clenched his jaw but then nodded, knowing that she had a point. "Fine. That's enough." Stefan removed his mouth from the blood bag and chucked it to the other side of the room. Klaus waved Katherine over and then compelled her. "Take this over to Damon and come right back."
Both Stefan and Melody went stiff, knowing well that the doppelganger was on vervain. Katherine looked surprised. "You want me to leave?"
"Klaus, no," Melody protested.
"Yes and if I were you—" but Klaus didn't even finish before Katherine took the vial and flashed out of the apartment. "—I'd hurry."
Klaus causally sat down in a chair and Melody gaped in horror, covering one hand with her mouth. Stefan began repeating, "She'll never take it to him." Melody went to give Klaus an aneurysm. But he noticed and flashed her to the wall, trapping her between his arms.
"Don't push it, love. I wouldn't hurt you, but that doesn't mean I can't make you suffer."
She struggled against him, glaring. "Katherine won't give it to Damon."
"Who knows? She might." He cocked his head to the side. "Don't make this difficult for yourself. You still have your freedom, I would hate to take that away from you." Melody stopped struggling and Klaus slowly pushed himself back before looking over at Stefan, The Salvatore was watching the whole scene with angry eyes. "Let's get on the road shall we?"
———
Melody had stayed in the car while Klaus and Stefan went into the warehouse. It had been a few minutes before one of them came back. Klaus. She didn't look over at him when he got into the driver's seat next to her. But he looked at her.
A sigh sounded through the car and his mesmerizing eyes didn't stray from her figure. "You can't possibly still be mad at me?" No response. "If it makes you feel better, Katerina delivered the cure. Damon will live to see another day." Still no response. "You can ignore me all you want, but believe me, I will not tell you the truth if you don't trust me."
"Well, then I guess you better start working your way to earning it," she finally replied.
He nodded understandingly. "Yes, I know. But you can't expect me to be on my best behavior."
"I never said you had to."
Klaus smiled at her sass. "Then what do you expect from me?"
Melody didn't say anything as she thought. The future would undeniably have Klaus in it. Whether it be a good or bad thing she didn't know. However, she couldn't deny that he had caught her attention which rarely ever happened. Little did she know she had caught his attention as well.
Finally, Melody removed her gaze from the outside and looked at him. "I expect you to be yourself. I know that deep down you aren't this murdering psychopath. You don't have to be like that around me because I know that isn't you. If you promise me to do that, I'll trust you."
He looked surprised by her proposition. Klaus opened his mouth to say something but then closed it. He looked in front of him before looking back at her. "Alright. But don't expect me to spout all of my little dirty secrets to you."
Another thing that shocked him was that she actually smiled at him. "Fine. But don't expect me to be on my best behavior."
Klaus chuckled and then started the car once he saw Stefan approaching them. The Salvatore got into the car and then Klaus drove off. Melody laid her head on her hand, gazing out of the window.
From that moment forward, her life would never be the same.
