THE NEXT DAY wasn't as awkward as she expected. Stefan was back and Damon had begun to treat her a bit nicer. Whether it was out of respect or him being thankful, she didn't know. But what she did know was that while she was making herself breakfast, the news was on. And it was boring in her opinion, but when she heard one of the reports, she froze.
"In addition to the missing campers, park ranger, and twenty-five-year-old Jessica Koenig, a deputy of the local sheriff's department was found dead just this morning. Though it was clear that he had been killed days ago. Police are looking into his death."
She shut off the TV and looked back over at her food. The thing that startled her was that the deputy that was killed, was the same one that shot her that day when Mason exposed the Salvatores.
Footsteps broke her trance and Damon and Stefan walked in.
"Just wait until you hear this," Damon said, looking at her.
Melody began to spread her cream cheese and didn't look back up at them. "What?"
"Stefan here brought John Gilbert back to town."
She put the knife down that she used to spread the cream cheese and glared at Stefan. The glare was aimed and ready to kill which Stefan noticed. He scratched the back of his neck. "I kinda went to go look for Isobel, and I found John instead. He said he can help us, and we're desperate."
That made her roll her eyes. Melody turned her attention back to her bagel and finished spreading the cream cheese. "How are we desperate, Stefan? He's a total jerk."
"Guys, Bonnie's new witch friend is working with Elijah, so we have to assume that the moonstone was never destroyed." Another eye roll. But this time, Damon rolled his eyes too. "Elena is putting all of her faith into some deal that she made with Elijah to keep everyone safe. I mean, do you trust Elijah? I don't trust him. He's an Original, he can't be trusted. It's not like we can just go up and kill him because apparently, he can't die!"
She officially finished spreading her cream cheese and then threw the knife into the sink. Melody took a bite and made one motion with her free hand. "And where exactly does John Gilbert come into play?"
Damon clenched his teeth to contain his anger. He hated that John was back in town. Stefan looked at Melody and replied, "He knew about the sacrifice and about you, Isobel told him. He said he knew of a way to keep Elena safe and to keep you away from Klaus."
Melody hummed as she chewed her bagel, swallowing before she replied. "And?" She would be lying if she said the closer and closer it got to Klaus's arrival, she was getting worried. She wasn't worried, she was curious and almost excited. But it just didn't seem right; why would she be excited to see Klaus? Rose's words rang in her ears and she shut it out. Maybe it'll make more sense when I find out the truth, she thought. "What's his big plan to keep me and Elena way from Klaus?"
"He's not talking. At least not to me anyway."
Both Damon and Melody gave him a look. Damon nodded. "Great work Stefan. Top notch. As if I didn't have enough problems."
Damon exited the room and Stefan sighed. Melody took another bite of her bagel, chewed, and swallowed. "He's in denial."
Stefan looked back at her and nodded. "I noticed." His phone buzzed in his pocket, making her raise an eyebrow as he looked at it. "I gotta go. See you later."
Then he left and Melody sighed. "Just me, myself, and I."
———
It turns out she wasn't left alone for long because then Damon dragged her with him and Elena to the Grill to find John. Now, this was much to Melody's disappointment because she didn't feel like spending the day with that guy. But she was and her disappointment only increased when they entered the Grill and saw John standing by Jenna and Alaric.
He saw them immediately. Elena put a hand on Damon's chest to stop him. "We just need answers. Please don't do anything stupid."
Damon looked at them. "Yeah, but stupid is so much more fun."
Melody couldn't help but smirk and he noticed, smirking back. Elena didn't take his excuse and sighed. "Damon, I mean it. All I'm asking is you try to keep it together. Be the better man."
The fairytale woman glared at Elena and scoffed. She hated that Elena was trying to change Damon and make him — as she said — "the better man". Damon wasn't like that and Elena was shaping him to be like that because that's what she wanted. Elena was the sculpturer and he was the clay. "Leave him be, Elena. Why don't you be the better Gilbert? Oh, wait, your brother has that title."
Damon didn't say anything to her comment and just looked at Elena for a moment before looking back over at John. "Okay then."
Melody shook her head in disbelief. "You know what, I'm just going to go. You guys take care of John."
She turned around and walked out of the Grill. Elena was changing Damon and she didn't want to stick around to watch her continue to do that. Her plan was to just go back to the Boarding House and talk to her family. But that changed when she saw Caroline being shot in the head point blank.
Not even a second past before she used her magic to throw the guy to the wall. Melody ran over and crouched next to Caroline. She was about to heal her blonde vampire friend when she was hit over the head, making the world go black.
———
One of the first things she heard was Caroline calling her name, over and over again. Melody slowly opened her eyes and saw the blonde next to her, the bullet still stuck in her head. She was crying in pain. "Melody, Melody."
The brunette sat up and then held her head. "Hold on, Care." She managed to sit up and then put her hand to Caroline's forehead. "Ready? On the count of three. One." She ripped the bullet out and Caroline yelped in pain. "Three."
"You said three. That was only one," Caroline cried, rubbing her forehead.
Melody shrugged and then leaned against the metal bars. "You didn't anticipate it."
There was a chuckle and they both snapped their heads to look over at the male werewolf that kidnapped them. Melody put herself in front of Caroline slightly in a protective manner.
"I see you got the bullet out. That was nasty." Caroline looked around for a way out while Melody kept her glare right on him. "I got lots of wooden bullets, other toys. It's gonna be a long night, sweet peas."
He held up a gun but Melody used her magic to make it disappear. A simple spell. The werewolf looked surprised and she glared. "You let us out of here right now. Because trust me, you're going to die anyway, don't make it worse for yourself."
The guy smirked. "Oh really. And who may I ask is going to kill me?"
Melody smirked back and leaned closer to the bars. "That's my little secret. But I can tell you, he won't be gentle."
He clenched his jaw in anger and Jules walked in with a phone to her ear. "He needs proof." The man grabbed another gun from his pocket and then shot Caroline in the arm. Caroline screamed and Melody used her magic to give him a migraine. A stronger spell. She couldn't hold it and felt her magic drain from her body. She gasped and let her magic bind go, falling to the floor. The blood from her wound on her head had made her weak. And they had drugged her, her mind becoming fuzzy.
Jules pulled the phone away and then walked out of the RV. Caroline continued to cry and tried to inch her way to Melody. "Melody, Melody, no."
The fairytale woman gasped and then tried to move her hand to her head, but couldn't; she was too weak to heal herself. The werewolf titled his head and looked at them with boredom. "So, how many vampires are there in this town anyway?"
Caroline didn't answer so he shot a squirt gun full of vervain at her. She yelled in pain and Melody groaned, trying to help but couldn't. Come on Klaus, she thought. Where are you when I need you? It was odd because she wanted him to save them. Not only because he would give this guy a run for his money, but she'd finally be able to see him. She wanted to know what he looked like.
The blonde kicked the bars as she cried. "Why are you doing this to us?! Why are you doing this? Why?"
"You're a vampire and she's some freak with magic. Why not?" He used a blowgun to shoot wooden darts in Caroline's neck. But Melody used every ounce of her strength she had left and then threw him back, attempting to knock him out.
He hit the RV door and the brunette yelled. "Let us go!" She hissed in pain. "Let us go and just maybe he'll give you a fast death."
———
She would've celebrated if she wasn't so weak. Caroline had tried to heal her but Melody's body rejected it because she wasn't from this realm. So the girl was left on Caroline's lap, not being able to move at all. But then her friend told her that she heard Stefan and Damon, that they had come to rescue them.
There was a fight outside but Melody could hardly hear anything. It was one of the effects Pan told her. When you exert yourself too much and use too much of her magic while you're injured, your whole body becomes numb. But he said it shouldn't be a concern for her because her magic was so strong. However, with the open wound on her head and the drug in her system, it drained her enough to consume of energy, so she can't use much of her magic nor did she have any strength.
A familiar werewolf entered the RV and Caroline looked up with frantic eyes. "Tyler, there's a latch on the door and I can't get to it." He hesitated and Caroline noticed. "Tyler?" He stared at her and she scooted so Tyler could see Melody. "Tyler, she needs help you need to let us out."
Tyler pursed his lip before walking over and opening the cage. Caroline pushed Melody to Tyler and the werewolf picked her up. The blonde then crawled out and the three exited the RV. But Jules saw and pushed Caroline against the RV with a gun to her back. Tyler saw but he just stood and watched, still carrying Melody.
Before the one werewolf could kill Damon, they all started to scream in pain, covering their ears with their hands. The werewolves fell to the ground and Caroline pushed herself off the RV, going over to Tyler and Melody.
"What's happening?" she questioned.
"What the hell is going on?" Tyler called out.
All of a sudden, Jonas Martin appeared with his hands out, having cast the spell of the wolves. Damon and Stefan got off of the ground and Jonas spoke up. "Elijah made a promise to Elena. I'm here to see it's upheld. You need to go." He saw Melody, now in Stefan's arms. "She'll heal, just give her some time. Get out of here. Now."
Stefan nodded and he left with Damon, Caroline, and Melody. The woman hadn't heard any part of the conversation, still being too weak.
Once Stefan got back to the Boarding House, he laid Melody down on her bed and sat by her. Melody had gotten some of her strength back but couldn't do much. Her skin was pale, much like Rose's but Stefan knew she wasn't dying and that she'd be alright. "Thanks, for saving me and Caroline. I hate being the damsel in distress."
He chuckled slightly and she managed a smile. "Jonas said you would heal. So just get some rest, you'll feel better in the morning."
Melody nodded and he gave her a smile before walking out. She was left alone and that's when she sighed, pressing a hand to her head. Once her hand hit her wound, she winced. "So much for being a hero."
Sleep had come faster than she expected and soon her hand fell back down to her side. Her eyes drifted closed and her breathing slowed to a normal rate.
A gust of wind flowed into the room but Melody didn't notice considering that she had fallen into a deep sleep. He stood by her open window for a moment before slowly walking toward her. He stood at the side of her bed and ran a hand down her cheek fondly.
"I'm sorry you were hurt, love. Those wolves will pay I swear that to you." He listened to her heartbeat and then bent down to kiss her forehead. "Soon, my angel."
He turned to leave when he heard a mumble. "Klaus." That made him stop in his tracks. He slowly turned but Melody was not awake. She was talking in her sleep. Taking a step toward her, he stopped and listened. "Nik, don't leave. Please. We'll fight him together, you don't have to be alone. I love you."
Melody didn't say anything after that. Her heartbeat stayed at the same relaxed rate and her eyes remained closed. Klaus stayed for a second longer before disappearing.
And it was almost like he was never there. The window was still open and Melody still lied on her bed, sleeping peacefully as if nothing ever happened. But something did happen.
Something that changed Klaus Mikaelson forever.

If you guys are confused as to why Melody said "I love you" when she hasn't even met him for real, you'll understand later. Thoughts on it? I hope you guys have a great day/night and don't forget to vote on this chapter, comment your thoughts, and follow me for updates!
