"I DON'T THINK SO."
Stefan rolled his eyes in response to the brunette's reply. "Melody, what you and Damon did was wrong."
The fairytale woman threw her hands up, giving him an exasperated expression. "I'm telling you Mason is up to something. He lied to me when he said he was here for Tyler. Sure, maybe he's here for support, but that isn't the main reason why he's here." They had been at this for a while now. Stefan was trying to convince her to apologize for the stunt she and Damon pulled last night. Though, Melody wouldn't budge. "I'm not apologizing. He deserved it."
"It didn't hurt him though," Stefan pointed out, making her roll her eyes that time.
"I'm still not saying sorry."
Damon came down the stairs and walked into the room. "Look Stef, if Melody doesn't want to apologize, don't make her." He pointed to his head. "She can make your mind feel like it's exploding remember."
Melody smirked and pointed at Damon. "So true." She looked back at Stefan who was giving her a look. She sighed. "Hey, here's an idea! Why don't you apologize for me and Damon? It's better than me having to verbally say it to him."
Damon's smirk fell at that, shaking his head. "Ah, no."
Stefan seemed to take it and nodded, ignoring his brother. "Fine. I guess I'll be apologizing for the both of you."
The raven-haired vampire walked over to them and shook his head. He made a face at his words, not liking them one bit. "You're not really going to apologize for us are you?"
"No, I am." Stefan got on his jacket as he spoke. "See you guys at the picnic."
He left without another word. Melody shrugged to the other brother and grabbed her black leather jacket, putting it on as he made his way over to her.
"He can't be serious," he groaned in disbelief.
"Nope." She flung her hair over her shoulders, smiling innocently at him. "I'm pretty sure he's being serious. He's such a peacemaker."
And with that, she left the Boarding House, leaving Damon wondering what had just happened. He grunted in frustration after a few moments and then followed her, flashing in the passenger seat of her car which made Melody smirk smugly when she got into the driver's seat.
"Well let's go then," Damon told her, leaning back in the seat, kicking his feet on the dash.
This resulted in Melody cussing him out, pointing out that he got her this car because of their deal, and smacked his legs off the dash, making him smirk teasingly which she didn't appreciate. So she gave him a migraine.
———
It seemed like the best thing to do in his opinion. Though Stefan did know that if Melody said something was up, something was up; he had learned that in the short amount of time she had been in the small town. And the way she reacted to Mason Lockwood, made him be on high alert, looking for any signs as to what the uncle was up to.
Mason was removing boxes from his trunk when Stefan approached. The Lockwood saw him and stopped, looking over. "Stefan right? The other Salvatore," he greeted.
"The nice one," Stefan added. "The one offering an apology."
"Not interested."
"Look, my brother and my friend acted impulsively."
Mason scoffed in response. "You think?"
Stefan sighed and nodded. "If you, Melody, and Damon keep at each other throats, somebody innocent is going to get hurt and I don't want that. You have family here so I can imagine you'd want that either. So what do you say we just quit the whole alpha male fighting thing and call a truce?" he offered with his hands in his pockets, waiting for a reply.
He pointed at him. "I made that same offer to your friend Melody. She turned it down with helping Damon put a knife in me."
"They made a mistake. I'm here to make sure that none of you make another one."
Mason looked indifferent and grabbed a box, going to walk away. "Tell your brother and your friend to watch their backs."
This made Stefan act quick, grabbing his arm. Mason turned back around to face him. "Well, I'm guessing that he only has to worry about that during a full moon. Otherwise, you're not as strong, am I right? Or you would have killed Damon and Melody by now. There's one of you. There's three of us. I think you're the one that needs to watch his back." He didn't respond as the vampire continued. "And don't even think about threatening Melody's life again. Because I promise you, Damon will be the least of your worries."
The werewolf had an emotionless face. "I support the fact that you want to protect her, but if either of them come at me—"
Stefan shook his head. "They won't." He held out his hand and Mason shakes it, walking away and carrying a box.
Damon and Melody appeared from behind Stefan, having watched the entire thing.
"What are you doing?" Damon questioned.
Stefan shrugged, not turning to look at them as they watched Mason walk away. "Negotiating peace on your guys' behalf, like I said I would."
"I thought we already talked about this Damon," Melody sighed with a pointed look.
The raven-haired vampire had argued with her nearly the entire way. Saying stuff like "I don't apologize" or "Stop being a goody two shoes". Melody was pissed to say the least, wanting to throw him out of the car and onto the street. To make matters worse, when she had cussed him out for having his shoes on the dash, he responded by saying it was "hot" when she cursed. Her response was giving him that painful migraine the rest of the way.
"I know we did, but I still don't want peace," Damon reminded.
Stefan made a face. "Consider it opposite day."
Damon stepped in front of Stefan and put his hands on his shoulders. "Stefan, please tell me you don't seriously think a handshake just solved our problem."
His brother shook his head in reply. "No, actually I think that the first chance Mason Lockwood gets, he's gonna drive a stake through your heart, then through mine, and do who knows what to Melody. All because you took it upon yourself to try to kill him, bring Melody with you. So thank you, because we don't have enough problems." Stefan patted him on the neck with a sarcastic smile and then walked away.
Melody sighed again, frowning. "Okay maybe lashing out on Mason was a bad idea."
Damon looked at her and made a face. "I still don't regret it."
She shook her head and then approached Stefan who was walking down the pathway to the gazebo. "Stefan!" The vampire turned to her and he slowed down so she could catch up. "Look I heard what you said to Mason. And I just... I don't understand why you care about me so much. I just got to town and you already trust me. Why?"
He shrugged in response as they walked. "I just do."
The fairytale woman frowned more. "You're lying to me."
"It's embarrassing."
"Trust me," Melody replied with a smile. "Embarrassing is having to explain to people why your brother looks like he could be your grandfather. Shoot me."
Stefan smiled and laughed in response. "Promise me you won't make fun of me?" She nodded. "Me and Damon as kids, we were close. But for as long as I can remember, I've always wanted someone to look after, like Damon did for me. A baby sister." Melody's smile fell as she stopped walking. Tears pricked her eyes and she quickly wiped them. He noticed and stopped walking as well. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to—"
"No no," Melody cut him off, clearing her throat, the tears still brimming her eyes. "It's just that one of my best friends back in my town said something similar about how he felt about me too. He said he'd always wanted a baby sister to look after." She forced the tears away. "I can't imagine my life without him since my actual brother left not too long ago."
"Was he a fairytale character too?" Melody nodded, laughing. She prompted him to guess who it was. "But there are tons of characters."
"Just guess. I'll give you a hint, he's a part of the Peter Pan story."
Stefan looked thoughtful as they walked and then he started to laugh. "Please don't tell me it's Captain Hook." Melody laughed as well, nodding, confirming that it was. "I bet your dad had a field day with that one."
Melody laughed even more. "You bet he did." Their laughter died down and Melody looked over at Stefan. "Well for what it's worth, thank you, for caring about me. I care about you too."
Stefan smiled and then wrapped his arm around her, pulling her into a hug. But neither of them knew that Mason Lockwood had made a plan to sell both of the Salvatore brother's out, telling Liz Forbes about them being vampires. And he told her that Melody knew about Stefan and Damon and that she was some kind of supernatural creature as well.
———
Melody had left Stefan since he went to talk with Damon, so she approached one of the picnic areas and walked up to Caroline's mom. "Hi," she greeted, getting Liz's attention. "I'm Melody Mills. I moved to town just recently."
Liz smiled at her, looking cautious as the two shook hands. "I'm Liz Forbes, the sheriff, and Caroline's mom. You're friends with Caroline right?"
She nodded, smiling back. "Yeah, we actually just meet a few days ago." Then she became serious as she took in her facial expression. "If you don't mind me asking, are you alright? You seem kinda down."
The blonde shook her head. "Caroline and I had a moment earlier."
"Oh. Well, I can try to talk to her for you," the brunette offered.
Liz waved it off. "Oh no, no. You don't have to do that. It was nice meeting you Melody. I hope you enjoy Mystic Falls."
The sheriff walked off and Melody bit her lip, tapping her fingers on the table as she thought. Liz looked nervous, careful as they had spoken. Which led the fairytale girl to believe that something was wrong.
Damon came up from behind her, sensing concern. "What's wrong. I saw you talking to Liz."
Melody stopped tapping her fingers and crossed her arms over her chest. "She was being careful around me. Like she was expecting me to attack her or something." The female was about to continue when she saw Elena approach Stefan who was working on measuring. The two turned their attention to the ex-couple. "Oh great."
Caroline watched from afar and they all observed as Elena and Stefan started talking.
"Do you still care about Katherine?" Elena questioned.
Melody rolled her eyes. "And here we go. Did anyone bring the popcorn?"
"Don't do this," Stefan pleaded to Elena, shaking his head. "Please don't turn this into something that it's not."
She scoffed, speaking to him in an accusing tone. "So this is not for discussion. That's what you're saying?"
"No, I'm saying that this isn't up for discussion right now because we have ears on us."
They look at Damon, Melody, and Caroline who were all listening. The three turned away and pretended not to be listening, though they were. Elena sighed and looked back at Stefan. "Okay, when?"
"I don't know," Stefan replied with a shrug.
"I saw her Stefan. It's like we are the same person. How could you hate her and be in love with me?"
He looked away from her for a second before shaking his head again, looking almost offended at what she was implying. "You're reaching. I'm not...I'm not Damon."
"How about we don't bring Damon into this right now?"
"You know, I can't...I can't do this anymore, Elena."
Melody raised an eyebrow as she listened. She knew that Stefan was lying, which meant that Elena and he had planned this. A lightbulb went off in her head almost immediately after that thought. Katherine made Caroline her spy which is why she's been acting so weird. Elena and Stefan are fooling Katherine. The brunette smiled and tried to hide it as she continued to listen.
"Fine, Stefan. Whatever," Elena replied, back to Stefan's confession.
She left and Damon leaned over to Melody who was watching the two still. "Well that was interesting," he drawled. Melody gave him a look and then rolled her eyes, leaving him standing there.
———
Seeing as it was the perfect opportunity, Melody approached Mason who was getting some lemonade from a stand. He sipped it and saw the brunette walking up to him. "Mason," she greeted. She stood in front of him with her arms crossed over her chest. "Stefan told me about the deal you made him."
"Yeah. He's a nice guy," Mason replied.
"I'm guessing a lot nicer than me and Damon."
"Nice is overrated. But he did seem very protective of you. Shame." Melody glared and Mason smiled back. "You have a good day, Melody."
Mason left and Damon and Stefan walked up to the fairytale woman who was throwing daggers in her mind at Mason's back.
"Please tell me that you were just having a nice conversation," Stefan pleaded.
She didn't reply as she looked at the two. She dodged the comment as she said, "Are you going to tell me what's up this fake drama in your relationship with Elena?"
Damon smirked. "I am so glad I'm not the only one who noticed."
Stefan had an emotionless mask as he replied, "What are you guys talking about?"
Melody scoffed as Damon responded, "Oh come on, Stefan. You and Elena don't fight, especially not over me."
"Drop it, Damon."
"With pleasure." Damon turned and the girl there offered him some lemonade. He smiled in response and took the cup. The girl also offered Melody one and she did the same.
"Thank you, sweetheart," Melody told her with a smile.
She and Damon both took a sip of the lemonade. However, both had different reactions. Melody cringed at the odd taste and Damon spit it out and started to cough. Stefan and Melody looked over at him as he continued to couch. None of them knew that Liz was watching from afar.
"Damon, what's wrong?" Melody asked.
Her magic started to burn in her veins and Damon gasped as she moved him to sit on the bench, "Vervain! Vervain!" Stefan smelt the cup as realized that it was indeed laced with vervain.
Melody looked around her but Mason was nowhere to be seen. She gritted her teeth and flexed her fingers.
Stefan noticed and stood up, grabbing her arm to stop her. "Melody don't."
The female saw his look and nodded, getting a bottle of water and bringing it over to Damon. "Here. Drink this."
He snatched the bottle of water from her and rinsed his mouth, spitting it out onto the grass. He growled in anger as Stefan patted his back. "I'm gonna kill him," Damon growled.
Stefan went to stop him while Melody made a motioning hand, letting him walk by. But Stefan hurried up and held him back.
"Listen to me! Sit! Sit!" He pushed Damon down on the bench as the older brother fought him.
"I'm not listening anymore of your "give peace a chance" crap. He's dead!" Damon told him, hissing in anger.
Melody put her hand on Stefan's shoulder. "Damon has a point, Stefan. Mason could expose the two of you. He needs to be taken care of."
Normally, she wouldn't be the one to say things like that. She spent the last five years with a family that always gave people second chances no matter what. Killing wasn't an option to them. But now? Melody knew that Mystic Falls was not StoryBrooke, things were different and she had to know that. It made her wonder if her heart had started to turn black yet, making all of these choices that would be considered evil and villainous in her family's book. What would her family think of what she had become in just the short time she'd been gone for?
Stefan knew she was right and nodded. "Fine."
Melpdy removed her hand from his shoulder.
Damon was still panting from the vervain in his system. "Alright. Let's do it." He caught sight of Mason going into the woods, carrying two trash bins. "Woods. Trash duty. Come on."
———
Mason was in the woods when Stefan, Damon, and Melody arrived. He looked at them with what looked to be shock. And yet while it seemed like they had the upper hand, the brunette felt her magic burn, a presence close by.
"Don't look so surprised. You knew this was inevitable. Go ahead, run. I'll give you a head start," Damon spoke.
All of a sudden Mason bent down and a shot rang out. Three bullets were shot. One at Damon, one at Stefan, and then one at Melody. Damon and Stefan fell to the ground while Melody stood in shock. The bullet had hit her and Liz gasped.
"I thought I said not to shoot her!" she yelled at her deputies.
Melody looked down at the blood pooling at her stomach. She suddenly felt light-headed and she collapsed onto the floor. Both Stefan and Damon saw her, trying to crawl toward her.
"Someone call a hospital!" Liz yelled.
Things blurred around her and she looked over at Stefan. Melody had died once before, she remembered how it felt but this, this felt different to her. She wasn't afraid, she wasn't scared. Because somehow, deep down, she knew that this wasn't the end for her. The world had more to offer her and this wasn't the end of her fairytale.
———
Birds chirped, footsteps sounded through the forest, and the trees swayed slightly in the wind. Her mind was aware when she came to. Melody slowly opened her eyes and saw Mason Lockwood talking with a few of the deputies.
"She was a sympathizer to vampires," Mason told them. "She wasn't innocent."
"But she's still human," one of them told him with a guilty look. No doubt he was the one who shot her. "Her blood is on us."
Melody opened her eyes fully to see Caroline creeping up on the men, Elena following behind her. But the fairytale woman didn't have the strength, so she closed her eyes. Caroline flashed to them and knocked the men out. She and Mason had a fight which ended up with him being knocked unconscious.
"Oh, my gosh," Elena gasped, rushing over to Melody. "Melody! Melody!"
The blonde came over and pushed Elena to the side, lowering her head to Melody's chest as she listened for a heartbeat. A relieved sigh escaped her lips. "She's alive."
Elena let out a breath of relief as well. Not even a few seconds passed before Melody felt a burst of energy which made her spring up, gasping.
"Melody," Caroline called, grabbing onto her arm.
The brunette looked at her and then looked around, holding onto the newly turned vampire with her eyes wide in worry. "Liz, Mason, the deputies, they have Stefan and Damon. They're going to kill them."
"Melody you need a hospital," Elena insisted.
"No, I don't." She moved her shirt up to reveal that the bullet wound was gone, not a single scratch left from where it had hit. The three looked shocked and Melody went wider than they already were. "That's not possible." She looked up at the two and then came to her senses. "We can worry about this later. We have to help them."
Caroline helped her up. "Are you sure you're fine?"
Melody nodded wiping off the dirt from her shirt. "I think so. Come on. Let's go!"
So the three ran to the Lockwood ruins where Caroline said she had heard them. It was quiet and Caroline listened closely.
"What is it?" Elena asked, looking concerned.
Caroline put a hand over her mouth in shock. "My mom. She's killing them."
"What?!" Melody exclaimed, she and Elena both went to go into the ruins but Caroline stopped them.
"No, no, no, no!"
"We have to stop her!" Elena replied, looking frantic.
"No, I can't. Elena, she's gonna find out about me. Elena!"
Melody ran into the ruins with a desperate expression. Stefan's words from earlier rang in her ears when she and Elena entered. The fairytale woman gestured for the doppelganger to stay behind her as they walked in. She opened the metal door and held her hands up as she got ready to knock the deputies out.
The two deputies followed the sound and Melody waved her hand, causing them to fall to the ground unconscious. She quickly led Elena to the main cell. Liz saw them, pointing her gun at them. "Elena! What are you doing?" she questioned. But then she saw Melody and her eyes widened. "Melody? But you were dead?"
"You can't kill them. I'm sorry."
Her face expressed her guilt. Before she could use her magic, a deputy stepped out, pushing her and Elena into the cell, drawing his gun and pointing it at them. But suddenly the door closed by itself and they all looked over at it.
"Who else is with you?" Liz asked them.
But neither of them replied. Melody knew who it was as Caroline speed around. She bit one of the deputies. Then she flashed over a knocked the other out. Liz gaped in shock as she watched Caroline emerge from the shadows, her mouth full of blood.
"Hi, mom."
———
Melody sat next to Caroline as Damon fed on one of the deputies. Elena was rubbing Stefan's back and Liz sat quietly further away. The brunette saw that Stefan was still weak and sighed. "Stefan you need some actual blood that will help you heal," she pointed out tiredly.
Stefan shook his head as he panted from being weak. "No. I'm gonna be fine. It's just gonna take a little bit longer."
Caroline spoke up. "Melody's right you know. If there's ever a time to break your diet—"
"He said he didn't want it, okay?" Elena cut her off.
"Oh piss off Elena," Melody hissed, defending Caroline. "She was only trying to help him. And besides, he can speak for himself."
She narrowed her eyes at Elena. She had been starting to feel off about Elena again. But the woman tried to not let it change her mood. Her mind was still on the whole "being shot and the wound healing" incident. The logical explanation was that Pan or Regina probably put a protection spell on her just in case something went wrong. Although, Melody got a feeling that it wasn't her family who helped her.
"This is a most unfortunate situation. Two deputies dead..." Damon trailed off. He looked over at Liz. "And you. What am I gonna do with you?"
Liz blinked in shock as she still tried to process the fact that her daughter was a vampire.
"You won't tell anyone, will you?" Caroline questioned her mom. Liz looked over at her for a second and then looked away. "Mom? Mom? Please. Look, I know that we don't get along and that you hate me but I'm your daughter and you'll do this for me, right? Mom, please. He will kill you."
Melody saw that both Caroline and Liz were breaking apart as the mother fought the tears. The newly turned vampire looked desperate and Damon nodded at her statement. Liz looked up at Damon with tears in her eyes. "Then kill me."
"No!" Caroline exclaimed.
"I can't take this. Kill me now."
Damon bent down to look at Liz in the eyes. "But you were gonna drag it out so painfully." He grabbed Liz and Caroline and Melody sprang up.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" Caroline exclaimed.
Both Stefan and Elena jumped up, ready to fight him off. Melody stood up, going over to him with her eyes full of rage. "I will fry your brain if you so much as move to kill her," she hissed.
She couldn't let Caroline lose her mother, it wasn't an option. The fairytale woman was close to her mother and she couldn't even imagine a world without Regina. Even though Melody had never meet Fiona, Regina was her mother.
"Relax guys. No one is killing anybody," Damon told them. He looked at Liz. "You're my friend." Then he looked at the dead deputies. "We've got to clean this up."
———
Elena had headed on home, telling Stefan goodbye before they all left for the Boarding House. Caroline had gone back to her house to get some stuff for Liz since she was staying to get the vervain out of her system.
Melody was about to call Pan when there was a knock at the door. She got up and went over to it, opening it to reveal Caroline with a suitcase. "Hey, sorry that took forever. I just didn't know how long my mom was gonna be here," she admitted, stepping inside.
The brunette nodded and smiled at her, closing the door and following her into the house. "Damon said it'll take at least three days for the vervain to leave her system. It just depends," she revealed.
Stefan walked over to them and Caroline smiled. "Hey! You get some bunny in you?" she joked.
Melody laughed slightly and he smiled at the comment. "Yeah, I'm feeling much better, thank you."
They all walked to the basement where Liz was staying. But then Caroline stopped outside the door, making the other two stop as they listened.
"Can you keep Caroline far away from me, please? I don't wanna see her," Liz told Damon.
"She's your daughter, Liz," Damon pointed out.
The sheriff shook her head in response. "Not anymore. My daughter's gone."
"You have no idea how wrong you are about that."
He looked at Caroline who turned around and left, dropping the suitcase on the floor. She ran out of the basement and Melody followed after her. "Caroline!" she exclaimed, trying to follow the blonde.
But Caroline was too fast and was already in the living room, sobbing. She sighed and turned back around, going to talk to Stefan. Melody reached the basement again, walking over to him as Stefan held one of the blood bags from the fridge in his hands.
"Stefan, I think it's best if we—" She stopped herself when she saw him. Melody grew concerned as she watched him. "What are you doing?"
"Remember how I told you that Katherine took a little vervain every day and built up a tolerance to it?" He looked at her and then looked at the blood bag again. "I could do the same with blood. I could learn to control myself with it."
"But Stefan..." Melody didn't want to argue with him. She knew that if this was what Stefan wanted, it wouldn't be right for her to tell him otherwise. "Is it what you want?"
Stefan turned to her and nodded. "I want to. I almost died tonight, Melody. Because I was too weak."
Melody walked to him and stood in front of him. "If it is what you want, go for it. I'm not going to hold you back."
"What about Elena?"
"Screw what Elena thinks. This is your choice, not hers." Melody smiled at him and held the blood bag between them. "You do whatever you think is right."
The vampire smiled at her in gratitude. She let go and walked out of the room, back into the living room where Caroline still sat, crying. Melody stood by her, smiling softly. "Do you need a ride?"
The blonde shook her head. "I can't go home."
It was then that Melody realized what she was talking about. "Because of Katherine." She sat down next to Caroline and the newly turned vampire stared at her in shock.
"How did you...?"
"It didn't take that long for me to figure it out." She saw Caroline worried expression and put her hand on her shoulder. "Who did she threaten?"
"Matt," she cried. "She threatened Matt and I'm so scared of her Melody! I am so scared of her."
Melody instantly brought Caroline into a hug, rubbing her back comfortingly as the blonde cried. "Hey, shhh. It's going to be ok. Nothing is going to happen to you or Matt."
"Why is she doing this? What does she want?"
The brunette let out a breath, shaking her head. "I don't know. But we will take her down."
———
It took Caroline a little while to finally fall asleep. And when she did, Melody covered her new friend with a blanket and got up, going to go upstairs to sleep when she remembered what Stefan had said.
She stopped walking for a moment, thinking. Elena would be so pissed at her. But then Melody told herself that it didn't matter. The doppelganger clearly wouldn't accept Stefan's choice, she wouldn't honor it. However, Melody would. She knew this is what Stefan wanted. And she was going to help him.
The said vampire was in the library when she entered. Stefan heard her and didn't turn from where he sat on the couch. She crossed the room over to him, sitting down beside him. "Is it really what you want?"
Stefan nodded. "Yes. Just a few drops of blood in my system. I think it's worth trying."
"If it is what you want, I'll support you either way. But there is no way I'm going to let you do this alone."
Melody made a paper-knife appear in her hand and Stefan looked confused. "What are you doing?"
She smiled at him slightly and then cut her hand a tiny bit, making her wince slightly. Melody showed her hand to him. "I'm going to help you. You said that you care about me and that I'm the little sister you never had. And who better to help you through this than your baby sister?"
Stefan hesitantly took her hand and she nodded to him. He lowered his head, his face changing, and drank the tiny bit of her blood. Stefan pulled away and his face went back to normal. "Thank you," he whispered.
Melody smiled. "What're little sisters for?"
———
The brunette had bid Stefan goodnight and went into her room. Melody grabbed her phone and called Pan. As per usual, he answered rather quickly.
"Hey, honey. It's been a few days, is everything alright?" he asked.
Melody smiled at her dad's overprotectiveness. "Everything's fine. For now at least." She gave him the rundown of the last few days and then ran a hand through her hair. "And the bullet was gone. I should've died but I didn't." She bit her lip, sitting down on her bed. "Did you or mom put a protection spell on me?"
There was silence on the other line before Pan replied, sounding a bit tense, "Melody, we never put a protection spell on you. No one did."
Melody gaped in shock. "O-oh." Then she shook her head to herself. "I, uh, I gotta go. I'll talk to you whenever I can."
He sensed her worry but let it slide, letting her think about it. "Alright. I love you."
"I love you too." She hung up and then sat on her bed, her face could only be described as pure shock. If no one in her family put the spell on her, who did?
But Melody didn't notice the dirty blonde hair or the blue-green eyes of a vampire that watched her from the woods outside the Boarding House. And she most certainly didn't notice the relieved sigh he gave or the small smile on his face.
"It worked."
