ONE THING WAS positive to Melody when she caught Stefan trying to sneak out of Rebekah's room the next day. It was quite amusing really, watching from her place by the balcony. Her family had already gone home much to her disappointment, begging for them to stay for just one day longer. But it was Henry's birthday and they couldn't miss it. She wanted to go with but knew if she did, something could happen while she was away. And her main priority at the moment was finding that cure. However, she did feel like their departure was too soon, seeing as she still was having trouble controlling her dark magic. What she didn't know was when the bomb would go off.

The Salvatore brother tried to vamp-sped out of the house but she snapped her fingers before he could, making him stop at the stairway, foot hovering over the first step since he was about to take a step before she stopped his movements. She smirked, waving at him with her mug of hot chocolate in both her hands. He looked embarrassed at being caught, ducking his head.

"What's the rush?" Melody hummed with the famous eyebrow raise she got from her father. She casually sipped her beverage, her smirk disappearing behind the mug but he could see it from the way her eyes were, full of smugness. Then Rebekah appeared with her robe on, seeing her standing there. She lowered her glass, looking at them both. "Well while you two were having some alone time, Kol was and still is running around with the white oak stake, focused on killing Jeremy. He tried killing me last night and also stole Klaus's daggers."

The two seemed shocked by the events they missed, not sure what to say in reply. Melody held up her mug to them, followed by a loud crashing noise from the art room. "Klaus is um. . .really upset." Of course, her words were an understatement and they all knew it, but she had acted as if it weren't a big deal to create some humor. Because at that moment, it was needed. She took another sip. "Rebekah we kinda need that last dagger and the white oak ash you have. I mean, I don't want to ask or anything because you know I feel bad—"

"Are you okay?" Stefan asked, looking concerned about her odd behavior because her words were coming out in a jumble as if she were ranting about a topic she felt passionate about. It was highly unlike her because usually she was put together and had confidence in what she was saying. Now it was like she was scrambling to find the right thing to say.

Melody shook her head, eyes slightly wide. "Not at all, I'm trying not to kill Kol right now. My dark magic seems to think that the best way to deal with him is to throw his body into the Arctic Ocean." Then she raised her mug to them with a forced smile, the two gaping in shock of how different she was asking. "Good morning to you both. I'm going to go check on my temperamental boyfriend and make sure he hasn't broken a window."

With that she walked down the stairs, realizing that she still had a grip on Stefan. So she snapped her fingers and he almost went tumbling down the stairs if it weren't for Rebekah grabbing onto his arm, the two watching as the brunette disappeared down the hallway.

She opened the door and ducked instantly, a jar or paint splattering above the door as she dashed inside. A huge, forceful smile was still on her lips. "Good morning my amazing, calm, non-homicidal boyfriend." She kissed his cheek and immediately his attitude change. He went from enraged to concerned in a matter of three seconds. "Don't ask because then I will slap you to relieve of the anger I am currently saving for your brother."

He nodded slowly. "I see." Then he glanced around the room, taking in the destruction he caused. It wasn't nearly as bad as he thought it would be. But he suddenly realized how scattered everything was. He had throw paint, his unfinished artwork that he gave up on, even a table. Yet in the midst of it all, not a single one of his drawings or paintings that was of or was related to Melody was harmed.

Melody didn't notice and took a rather long and dramatic deep breath, still holding her mug. Klaus looked over at her and couldn't help but crack a smile, looking down at the ground before glancing at her as she was looking around the room herself. "On a scale of one to ten, how much do you want to kill everyone on the planet right now?"

She took another breath of air, her eyes stopping on the fireplace as she thought over his question in her head. "That scale is much too small to describe the anger that is literally clawing at my chest." Melody set down her mug and turned to him. "I'll be fine once Kol stops being an idiot and fixes his mess." Then she pushed her hair back before she stopped suddenly. "You know what? Let's make out."

Klaus was positively sure he got whiplash, his body going stiff, his shoulders set. He cleared his throat to rid of the thoughts going through his head that she most definitely wouldn't know about, considering how she was inexperienced and innocent in that department. "Love, as much as that offer appeals to me. . ." She nodded solemnly which made his words trail off. And then he felt guilty for denying her again like he had the one time. He licked his lips before stepping forward, knowing that she wasn't ready for her first time.

This once, despite her lack of control, he gave into her because he knew it was what she needed to help ease herself. It would distract her for the time being. And he was not complaining because he loved kissing her and touching her skin. So he took another step and then kissed her deeply. Instantly she responded, gripping the back of his neck, making a low sound in her throat.

He replied with gently pushing her to a wall, kissing her more heatedly. Melody gasped when she felt a pinch on her thigh, giving him the perfect opportunity to slip his tongue into her mouth. She moaned, beginning to pant as she couldn't think straight any longer. This was the longest they had ever gone. Klaus than moved his lips to her jaw, traveling to her neck. He started to kiss her skin, sucking on it lightly.

She made a sound of approval, moaning again when she felt his hands roaming her body delicately, careful not to touch somewhere that would scare her. "Klaus," she breathed, closing her eyes as she tilted her head back to the wall, her hands combing through his hair. Now she was starting to understand why true loves often had this kind of interaction. It made her feel close to him, like they were connected. Her body felt like it was on fire, but only he could cool down her flame, and only she could make him burn.

Klaus trailed back up to her lips, keeping himself in check so he didn't push her too far. His thoughts wandered. He would wait as long as she needed, though, at the same time, he couldn't help but imagine their first time. No doubt it would be the best night of his life, holding her close to his body, their naked skin pressing into each other, their lips colliding.

Unfortunately, they had to pull away because he was aware that she would need some time to catch her breath. Indeed she did, panting and taking deep breaths as they stared at one another. Neither could resist. Melody tilted her chin up towards him and Klaus met her halfway there. They kissed slowly that time, their lips brushing against each other. And once they were done, they stood there together, enjoying their quiet moment.

———

When Stefan called her for help, she wasn't exactly keen on doing anything for the rest of the day so she didn't start wanting to kill Kol again. However, once he mentioned to her that this was give her the time to talk to Damon, possibly starting easing him into their team, she agreed. Klaus wasn't too happy about it, having ended up sketching her after their little moment since it made them both calm. But he told her that she could go if she wished and that he would be here if she needed him.

And once Melody arrived at the cellar of the Salvatore Boarding School, she stood next to Stefan who was giving his brother the silent treatment for a good reason. Damon stood, groaning from being drained of blood, and walked over to grab the vial of blood he was given. Then he saw her there, smirking at him.

"Hello, Damon."

Now he looked even more displeased of his current situation. "What the hell are you doing here?"

Melody smiled, shrugging her shoulders while she placed one hand against the wall beside the door, leaning closer to him. "Babysitting." She playfully winked at him, making him roll his eyes. But then he caught the sight of her neck, a few hickeys that weren't very noticeable. She saw his look and didn't bother covering it up, proud of the marks since she was gladly Klaus's and he was happily her's.

"Give him a vial of blood every couple of hours, so he doesn't desiccate," Stefan told her, sounding bored by the presence of his brother. "If he gets too much strength back, or if he just annoys you, bleed him out again. Just be careful."

She nodded, knowing that he was warning her not to get too into it so he dark magic didn't flare up and take over her. Because that wouldn't be good. Who knew who she would kill this time. Kol was definitely one of them, possibly Damon if he pissed her off enough.

The said vampire rose an eyebrow at Stefan, ignoring how close to two seemed to be again, even though there were clearly still some strains on their relationship. "Silent treatment, huh? Is that your best shot?" He looked to Meldoy. "He's still pissed at me for sleeping with Elena."

"Or maybe he is disgusted by the fact that his brother can't see what that brat is doing to you. Because at the library she confessed to loving you, broke Stefan's heart, and yet she went running to you and left Stefan alone. She claims to be better than Katherine but is so much worse. The world doesn't revolve around her Damon. Wake up and smell the bullshit that comes out of her mouth."

He seemed taken aback by her sudden outburst. Melody herself was a bit surprised, taking a deep breath as she felt the dark veins run up her arm. She closed her eyes and thought of Alec before she calmed down and opened up her eyes again. Stefan gave her a moment before speaking again.

"Well, why don't you two enjoy your little, uh, bonding time? I'm taking Rebekah to the dance that I canceled." He didn't bother giving an explanation which Melody was not happy with because she wanted to know why he was doing that. But then she figured it was him apologizing to her. He didn't have feelings for her anymore, she knew it, Rebekah knew it. Yet he still was working to fix the wrong he did.

———

Melody had ended up opening the door to Damon's cell, casting a boundary spell so he couldn't leave. She sat in a comfy chair she conjured, legs crossed as she read a book. It was silent between the two, not much to say really. And plus, she didn't know how to approach Damon or coax him into being on her side. He was drowning because of Elena, blinded by love, which she honestly couldn't blame him for.

Eventually, she spoke up, figuring out what to say. "You know I find that none of this would be an issue if you'd have just done your job properly." She looked up at him, watching as he tossed an object in the air. "I was all for letting you train Jeremy but when are things ever that easy right?"

"Are you kidding?" He scoffed, not breaking his focus. "Do you know how hard it is to get these Xbox brains to focus?"

His sarcasm only made her annoyed, giving her more reason to kill him now and go find Elena and then kill her too. No. She had to take her time, she had to build this up, keep up her act that she was helping the doppelganger get the cure. Because then it would be so sweet when she finally got the job done, watching her die slowly.

"Klaus turned a bar full of people into vampires for Jeremy to slaughter, you were the idiot who allowed Kol to kill them all. And what made you think that it was a good idea to saddle Jeremy with a conscience, hmm?"

"Well, we couldn't have him trying to stake Elena in her sleep, now, could we?"

Melody laughed loudly at that one, shutting the book closed as she flicked her wrist to make the item vanish. She stood up, arms crossing over her chest as she stared down at him. Her head tilted to the side. "Oh yes, for the love of Elena. We couldn't possibly have her dead now, could we? Her life is more precious than anyone else's. Say, how is it that you can love her and suddenly only care about her instead of your own brother?"

Damon was silent and so she kept prodding at the wound, knowing that he knew she was right. But he would never admit to it. Because if he did, he wouldn't have someone who loved him as Elena loved him. She didn't smirk, didn't look prideful as she spoke. "Come on. There must be a reason. It can't just be the sire bond. What is it? Compulsion? Manipulation? Does she say something to you?"

He caught what he was catching and sat up, looking over at her with narrowed eyes. "I think this has something to do with a little something that you did that you regret. I think you murdered Carol Lockwood, and I think you're worried that you are going to lose control again or that you will never be able to move past it."

She clenched her jaw. "You don't know that because unlike you, I'm making an effort to fix the problem, I'm not feeding into it."

"Debatable." Melody shook her head in disbelief, scoffing that time as she looked away from him. "Elena loves me, she cares about me, there is no problem to fix. See that's something you won't ever understand because I'm trying to be better for Elena. You? You are turning into someone as bad as Klaus." She clenched her jaw tighter, refusing to cry. "It doesn't matter what you do, you're always going to be a monster."

She slapped him hard across the face, causing him to wince and grip onto his jaw, rubbing the skin. Melody shoved him back before storming out of the cell, closing the door behind her as she locked it. The second that he said it, Damon actually regretted it. He even cursed himself mentally, falling back onto the bed as he stared up at the ceiling.

He hated that she was right.

———

Night had fallen sooner than she expected it to. She had sat outside the cell, a single row of bars near the bottom of the door. Damon had moved not to long ago to lay against the door, right near that so they could talk. And oddly enough. Melody could feel his guilt radiating. It gave her hope that just maybe he believed her because it broke her to think he wouldn't. Months ago he cared about her, he loved her like a sister, he trusted her.

Klaus had texted her to check up on her, as did her family. She had also called Henry to wish him a happy birthday, as well as an apology that she couldn't be there. But she had tried texting Stefan to see if he was coming back soon. He hadn't responded though, leaving her sitting there in silence.

"My brother's lack of communication is infuriating, isn't it?" Damon spoke, trying to make small-talk. "It's one of his trademarks, like his brooding and his hair." She didn't say anything in response and he continued on. "I don't understand what's taking so long. I mean, unless they decided to spice things up—"

She looked at the clock and put her hand through the bars, shoving a vial of blood into his chest without a word. He took it, not finishing his sentence or saying anything else as he downed the entire thing. They grew silent until she decided to poke more at his wounds, being more forceful this time. Fine, if he thought she was a monster, then she'd be a monster.

"You disappoint me, Damon," she sighed. "You're not putting much effort into getting out of here. Honestly, I expected more of trying to knock me out or kill me so you could leave, less the sulking cell potato."

He didn't take it to heart, merely humming. "Well, I am compelled to kill Jeremy, so I figured it's probably smarter to sit here and chit-chat with you than bust out of here like the Hulk."

Melody found that to be the perfect way to squirm into his head, get him to see that she was not the bad guy of this situation. She may have seemed to be, but she wasn't. All she wanted was justice for all of the people who suffered in the name of Elena Gilbert. No one else deserved to perish because of her.

"You know that's interesting to think about. I mean, what do you think Elena's view on it is? Your inability to overcome Kol's compulsion to make sure Jeremy wasn't killed, even though it meant saving the person she loves most in the world?"

Damon felt the sting that time and she knew he did. It made her smirk, knowing that she got him now. This was the perfect way to convince him otherwise. Maybe he would see how she was trying to save him, despite what he did to Caroline which she did hate him for. Yet there was a shred of her that said he could change.

"She's met me. She knows impulse control's not my strong suit."

Melody turned around, able to look at him through the bars. "And how is your lack of control any different than mine?" Her words were loud, clear to him that she was not messing around. "I killed Carol Lockwood and I regret it. I lost control, it's never happened to me before. You have lost control plenty of times! I made a mistake, how does that make me a monster?"

He turned his head to look at her, seeing the tears streaming down her cheeks. He sighed, his eyes softening as they had once when he actually trusted her, treating her like the sister he never had. "Maybe you're not a monster, yeah we all make mistakes. But why do you care about what I think about you?"

She shook her head, biting her lip before she wiped her tears. "Because Damon you used to care about me before you fell face first into the abyss Elena created. Because of Elena, you and Stefan haven't been able to bond as brothers. She's tearing you apart. I won't let another family get ripped apart like mine did." Her voice broke. "I lost everything because of Esther. My own brother can't even look at me. My mother is dead. My father isn't the same. And if I can save you and Stefan, maybe it'll make me feel better about myself, soothe my guilt."

Damon didn't reply, not knowing what to say. She got into his head though, she buried herself in that small piece of doubt he had for loving Elena. He wouldn't join her side that easily, but at least now he knew where she stood and what she was trying to do. Melody's phone rang before either could say anything else and saw that it was Kol.

The fairytale woman sniffled and answered it, surprised that he was calling. She wiped her tears easily and cleared her throat. "Decided to stop being stupid?"

"Not quite. But you see Melody, I'm in a bit of a predicament. Nik's darling former blood bag and her brother are trying to kill me."

She looked over at Damon who still wouldn't look at her. He looked guilty. Because he knew. Within an instant she was standing up, clenching her jaw. "Kol, get as far away from there as you can. They clearly are using you to complete Jeremy's mark. You need to leave and go to the mansion." But she had a feeling like he wasn't going to listen to her. All of them seemed to have pride that wouldn't let them back down from a fight.

"Don't pretend like you're not in on this. You want revenge on me for trying to kill you and you want to find the cure for Rebekah. This is the perfect plan to do just that. The time for our bonding is over Melody." She gripped the phone in her hands, feeling desperate. "I'm going to rip off Jeremy's arm and kill Elena just for sport. Then I'm coming for you."

"Kol wait—"

But then he hung up on her before she could assure him that she knew nothing of this plan. And suddenly, she was seeing red. The door swung open as Melody barged through, shoving Damon to the wall as she choked him with her fists. Her eyes were pitch black, her dark veins going up her body. "You lied to me." Her tone was low, menacing, dark. It chilled him to the bone.

"Hear me out."

She laughed darkly at that, raising him up the wall a bit, thanks to her dark magic. She tilted her head to the side, choking him hard. "Hear you out? I don't think. You had your chance and now Kol is going to die because of you. If you think you and Elena are getting out of this alive than you are sorrowly mistaken. Because unlike my father I don't play mind games. And believe me, that should give you no relief." Then she shoved him hard against the brick wall before tossing him to the floor like a rag doll. "If I find you left to warn anyone, I will kill you and make your girlfriend watch."

Then she turned on her heel and threw her hand up to teleport herself to the Gilbert house. When she arrived Klaus was already there, seeing her state. He quickly grabbed her tightly, making her thrash. He was going to keep his promise. And so he held her to his chest, them getting to the door of the house.

It was too late. Kol screamed in agony and burst into flames, collapsing to the floor. Dead. Slowly the last living Gilberts turned their heads to see the couple standing there. Melody snapped out of her trance, putting a hand over her mouth. Klaus let her go from the shock of witnessing his brother's death, looking heartbroken.

"We didn't have a choice," Elena defended. "He was trying to cut off Jeremy's arm!"

Melody felt her anger skyrocket within a single second. "You idiotic little bitch!" she screamed, still not able to enter the house. Even though she didn't know Kol well, he still was a part of Klaus's family, he still had a place in her heart. And he died thinking that she hated him and was plotting against him. All thanks to Elena. "He never would have stepped a foot into this dreadful house if you hadn't allowed him inside!"

"You two said you were going to put him down too."

"I was going to make him suffer on my terms!" Klaus yelled at her, starting to cry. "We're going to burn this house to the ground. And then, when you try to flee for your lives, we will kill you both without blinking."

Both were outraged. While Klaus was determined to kill them both, Melody was too busy crying, holding her stomach as she stared at Elena with such hatred. She promised herself she wouldn't let anyone else perish. And even though the doppelganger killed Kol, she didn't want to kill her right now. No, she was going to wait it out even longer. Elena wasn't going to die on the island anymore. Instead, she was going to make her turn human and then make her suffer.

"You kill us, you'll never get to the cure," Jeremy pointed out, standing behind his sister slightly, afraid. "You'll never be able to make any more hybrids."

Klaus shook his head, letting their plan flow through his words, without revealing the most crucial detail which was Elena's death. "You really think I care for an instant about my bloody hybrids? We want the cure so Rebekah can have it. We would've killed you all the second we dug it up, but now we're just gonna watch you burn instead."

He couldn't get inside though and instead fell to his knees, crying as he mourned his brother. Melody fell beside him, wrapping her arms around him. Bonnie entered their line of sight suddenly and looked to the Gilberts. "Invite them in."

Melody already knew what she was planning, feeling the magical spell. "Not a chance in hell. I'm not just going to kill Elena, I'm going to kill you Jeremy, I'm going to end your family line for good." Then she looked at Bonnie, tears still on her face as the drops scorched her skin. "You get in our way, I'll make sure you burn too. . ." she trailed off, her eyes going pitch black, her dark veins covering her arms, going to her face.

"You are all going to burn," she whispered before she and Klaus went up into violet smoke.

———

For those of you who think I'm going to kill Damon, I'm not. And don't worry, Kol and Melody will become closer in The Originals! Because that duo will be a mischievous one and I could never pass up the chance to make it happen.
