01
I step out of a random shop I stumbled across from when I was fetching graduation gifts for my friends back in Mystic Falls. I close the shop's door and look up at the shinning moon.
It's night time and I was shopping here alone. Two things, it's probably a bad idea to be wondering on the streets alone when I now know that Marcel has night-walker vampires roaming around the city. And the fact that Klaus has no idea I left the plantation.
I figured it was a good idea to go now since Klaus is busy with Marcel and creating an evil plan behind his back, so I thought, why not?
As a huntress, I did come prepared incase any vampires attack at me but so far it's been clean and I'm hoping it stays that way. As though I thought...
Walking on the empty sidewalk, I begin to make a turn, not exactly knowing where to go. I stop to pull out my phone for some directions. I'm beginning to get tired and I needed to get back to the plantation before Klaus realizes I'm gone.
Just as I thought, there was no service. I put my phone back in my purse and start to walk anywhere but here. At least anywhere where there's service. Since Klaus was in and out all the time, we barely get to spend any time together and it honestly hurt. I know it's not his fault, but it feels so different now.
Back in Mystic Falls, Klaus was either always his house or at the grill. It was always easy to spot him. Now, I don't even know what street I'm on and he's too busy trying to fight over the city he lost.
I felt someone watching my presence from behind. "It's brave for a girl like you to walk out on the streets alone."
I stop dead at my tracks, recognizing that voice. Marcel. I pretend I didn't hear him and continue to walk forward, hoping he'd leave me alone. I was wrong.
He uses his inhuman speed and flashes right in front of me. As pretending to be a local, I act surprised. "How did you–"
His face turns into confusion. "Have we met before?" he asks and I shake my head. I hope he didn't see me at the time he had his courtyard party.
He continues to examine my face and I sneakily put my hand into my purse to pull out a syringe of vervain. Planning to inject him with it, he catches me.
His hand quickly grabs mine, ripping the syringe out of it. "Vervain? So, I'm guessing you know about vampires."
"And I'm guessing you know about hunters?" I ask, trying to remain calm. "You're a hunter? What's a hunter doing in a city full of vampires? I gotta say, it's not the smartest idea coming here."
"It's not? Move out of my way and we won't have a problem." I retort, stepping out of the way but he moved in front of me again. "Now, now. I can't have hunter in my city, threatening my vampires."
"I'm not going to threaten any of your vampires, but I'll make it at the top of my to-do list if you don't let me go."
Before I could walk away into the dark city of cuisine, I felt a hand take my wrist. "Sorry, can't let you leave."
I hear him whistle and a group of vampire start to crowd over me. "You are a threat to my vampires. Can't have you roaming around the city while you carrying a stake on you, now can I?"
"If you're threatened by a little stick from a branch, you really aren't the big bad vampire of New Orleans." I respond back, getting quite agitated. There's no absolute reason to bring a few vampires here. I didn't come here to pursue some hunting career.
"You're having an attitude towards me? I should just kill you right here and end this, but there's one person who even my own vampires fear..."
"And obviously that person is me."
I hear him stifle a laugh before stepping towards me. "No, you've heard of the originals, right? You know, the first vampires ever created?"
I nod, waiting for him to continue. I knew I had to pretend I never met any of them, so my facial expression changed.
"You see, I happen to be best buddies with the almighty hybrid. He's actually in town right now and I'm sure he wouldn't mind paying you a visit." he tells me and I give him a look. All I know is Klaus is going to be pissed that Marcel caught me.
"Who says I can't take him down?" I question and he raises his eyebrows. "I'd like to see you try."
In a swift motion, I pull out my stake and stab a nearby vampire in the heart and I watch him fall to the ground with ease. "Really? Because that seemed easy."
He doesn't respond, only looking down at his now dear friend. "What makes you think I can't take an original? I think you're really underestimating me, Mr. Gerard."
"You will pay for this." he tells me before whispering to some of his vampires. I watch as his friends pick up the dead vampire that I killed and soon they walk away.
Only a few vampires were remained standing near me. "Take her."

I wake up to a throbbing pain to my head. I flutter my eyes open, looking at my surroundings. I didn't know where I was, but I knew why. I resisted the urge to fall back into the deep sleep I had previously been in because I knew I had to find some way to get out of this strange predicament.
Looking down, I realize I'm tied to a chair. In cases like this, I knew how to get out of being tied to a chair, but I didn't want to escape just yet.
"Oh, look who decided to wake up!"
"Go to hell." I spat at Marcel, avoiding eye contact. "I told you she has an attitude." Marcel states, only he wasn't talking to me, just to someone behind me. I just don't know who.
"Oh, look another fragile little girl trying to show that she matters. Why did you bring me here, Marcellus? She's pointless and useless." I hear that voice behind me. I knew he doesn't mean those words. We're just keeping the end of our deal we made.
"Like I said before, she's a threat to my guys. Figured you wanted to have some fun, Klaus." Marcel replies, showing off his smiles to Klaus behind me.
"Aww, look the big bad wolf finally came out of his den. Why don't you come over here and face me." I respond after a moment of silence and wait for him to stand in front of me.
He slowly walks over my way, grabbing the side of my face so now I'm looking right at his eyes. As I thought, he's pissed and by the look on his face I could tell he's worried too.
"Might want to keep that pretty mouth of yours shut, love. Other wise you'll regret it." Klaus tells me, wearing his usual smirk on his face.
"Now, tell me. What brings you here?" he asks me and I shrug, thinking of a lie. Of course he knows why, but Marcel probably needs an explanation.
"I could ask the same thing. What brings the original hybrid into town?" I interrogate, a small smirk forming on my lips.
Klaus walks back and forth in front of my eyes. "So, you managed to kill one of his vampires in front of him. What other skills do you have?"
"Well..." I start, managing to release myself from the rope. Once I'm free, I grab the rope and show it to the two of them. "One is knowing how to escape." I stand up, but I get pushed down so fast I could barely comprehend it.
Someone's hands were able to put my arms back where they were and I hiss in pain as the rough patchy feeling of the rope makes contact with my skin. It wasn't long before Klaus runs in and takes the rope from Marcel.
"What're you doing, man?" Marcel asks him and I wonder if Klaus took the rope from him as an instinct in seeing me in pain. My arms were still being held behind the chair by Marcel.
"She'll just escape again. It's best to wrap the rope around her." Klaus then takes the rope and gently puts it over my chest and around the chair so I cannot move. I let out a sigh, wondering when this will all be over.
"Honestly, this is pointless. If you're going to kill me, just do it." I imply, waiting for anything to happen. Of course I knew Klaus wouldn't let that happen, but I am curious to what Marcel has planned for me.
"Oh, we're not going to kill you, sweetheart. Marcel tells me you believe you can take down an original. Very bold."
"He's not wrong." I reply with a smirk.
"Go on, Marcel. I've got this." Klaus turns to Marcel, who then nods and walks out of this building. After a few minutes, Klaus unties me from the chair and pulls me up.
"What the bloody hell were you thinking? Were we not clear about you staying at the plantation?" Klaus whisper-yells at me with a hint of anger in his voice.
"I get bored after staying inside the same house for a week and not being able to go outside!" I respond back at him, walking past him but he takes my arm and pulls me back towards him.
"You could of gotten yourself killed, Maya! If he hadn't called me..." Klaus trails on and I turn back to face him. "But I didn't get killed." I say to him and he gives me a disappointing look. "But you could of."
"And if he did, I can't die. Well, supernaturally I can't. Remember my family's ring?" I ask him, holding out my hand to show him the ring.
"Didn't your teacher have an alter ego?" he questions and I roll my eyes. "Yes, but I never died so it'll take a few deaths before I go all psycho."
"Maya, we can't determine if and when the ring will have after effects on you, and I love you too much for that to happen." he tells me and those words made my heart flutter.
I step closer to him and pull him into a long lasting kiss. I pull away and give him a small smile. "I love you so much."
§
"No, I told you. I'm not staying here by myself again." I tell Klaus once we walk through the doors of the plantation. He closes the door and makes a loud groan underneath his breath.
"Really? Because I told Marcel I let you go and if he sees you in town, he'll take you once again and not invite me. And you're not by yourself, you've got my sister and Hayley."
"Who are nowhere to be seen." I say to him as I put my gifts and bag on the table besides me. "Of course they're here. Rebekah!" Klaus yells and there's no response.
"I've got four dead vampires in the front of the house." I hear Rebekah state once she walks through the door with Hayley besides her. "I need you to burn them."
"What is it with you two killing Marcel's vampires?" Klaus asks, pointing at the two of us. He fetches a gallon of gasoline and a lighter from the other room before walking out of the house.
"Why did you kill a vampire? I thought you were leaving your hunting business back in Mystic Falls, are you not?" Rebekah asks me and I shrug. "I did it for protection! What's your excuse?"
"No werewolves in the French Quarter. Your lovely friend Hayley decided to be there tonight and I was right on time, wasn't I?" Rebekah says, looking at Hayley.
I furrow my eyebrows, unfolding my arms. "That's against Marcel's rule. What were you doing there, anyways?" I ask her, a bit curious and worried at the same time.
"You killed one of his vampires, isn't that against his rule?" Hayley replies back only with an attitude. I watch as Rebekah leaves the house to join Klaus outside and judging by his facial expression from afar, he seemed quite mad as before.
A few minutes later, Klaus comes back with a vampire in his hands. He drops him to the ground and looks at Hayley. "Does anyone have any more questions? No? Good, because I have a question. Hayley, what were you doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me!"
"Leave her be." Rebekah defends and Hayley steps forward. "You wanna know what I was doing? I was buying poison, so I could put your little baby out of its misery."
I felt my heart drop and as if my blood was going to boil. Tears form at the corner of my eyes but I quickly blink them away. I'm so angry I could cry right now.
Klaus runs at her with vampire speed and pins her to the door by the neck. She gasps for air and Rebekah runs at Klaus and pushes him off of Hayley, grabbing him by the shoulders after he wouldn't listen to her name-calling.
"Keep your hands off her! She is pregnant, for God's sake! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of it? It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted."
I couldn't handle this, I just couldn't. I turn around quickly enough to storm into the bedroom that Klaus and I share. I threw my bags on the bed and frantically start to take the gifts out and put them in other bags I bought. I needed to take my mind off of something before I actually rip Hayley's head off.
But, it wasn't working. A couple moments later, Klaus came into the room long enough to see me have a mental breakdown. I hear his footsteps walk over to me and he takes the items out of my hands.
"Hey, hey. Talk to me." he inquires, giving me a sincere look. "I don't trust her carrying our child, Klaus. She tried to kill it! It's not even hers. If she wasn't pregnant, I'd let you choke her longer."
I push the sides of my hair behind my ears as Klaus wipes the tears off my face with his thumb. I pull away from his grip and sit on the bed. After a moment of silence, I speak, "I don't want her to be carry my baby, our baby. And I know it's not something that either of us can control but it's just not fair."
"Shh. Calm down, love. We'll get through this together. Remember, always and forever."
"That's your family's vow, Klaus. You shouldn't say it to me." I inform him, shaking my head as I do. He takes my hands and stares into my eyes.
"You are family."
