• Chapter 12 •

I ran over to the door, trying to open it before realising that Sirius had locked my own front door.

"Dorcas, what's taking so long?" Remus asked, hovering expectantly.

"The door's locked," I sighed, "Damn, I regret giving Sirius the key, guess we're locked in here."

"Yeah..." The two of us stood up and walked over to the sofa before Remus suddenly shook his head, "Wait, what are we one about? This is your flat, you have keys too!"

"Oh right, yeah!" I jumped back up again, "Hold on they're somewhere..."

I dashed over to my bag and coat, rifling in the pockets for my keys.

"Come on, Dorcas, the more time we have to wait, the more damage Sirius is doing to your relationship with Marlene - "

"Yes, Remus, I am well aware," I snapped, my arm up to it's elbow in the bag as I desperately tried to find my keys. Instead all I found was a few tissues and multiple Oreo wrappers which were honestly the least helpful things I could find right now.

"Where do you usually keep them?" Remus paced up and down, "Where do you usually keep them?"

"Um... I had them a few days ago - "

"A few days ago?" Remus look horrified, "Didn't you lock your door last night?! You could be in danger!"

"No, I never do because there is a very friendly neighbour downstairs called Herman and he wakes up at the slightest noise so if I'm ever in doubt, I know that Herman will be there," I replied defensively even though now that I said it out loud, it sound ridiculous. Herman was not the best defence mechanism.

"But you're Dorcas, you planned  a party in 24 hours, you organised the Lone Wolf Scam... you're organised!" Remus said, looking as if his entire world had been shook, "You're... organised."

"Not when it comes to keys," I replied, desperately wracking my brains for any idea of where I had put my keys. At least, if I couldn't find my keys and Sirius wrecked what little chance I had left with Marlene, this would be a valuable lesson about taking care of my possessions. Still, I would rather have Marlene over a 'valuable lesson' any day. Valuable lessons tended to slip out of my mind and turn it into opportunities for James and Sirius to mock me. Suddenly, my finger brushed something metal and I grasped it, pulling the metal object out to reveal my keys.

"Aha! I found them! Who's disorganised with keys now, Remus!" I said triumphantly holding them up. Remus cocked his head to the side, frowning slightly.

"Still you, Dorcas. After we've sorted that out, you and I are going to have a little chat about organisations," Remus said, sounding scarily like my mother. I shrunk back a little unnerved before grabbing my jacket, ready to go after Sirius.

"Remus, let's go... we have a crazy man to stop." I said and the pair of us dashed out. We began to run down the stairs, two at a time before we both came to stop, we'd both realised the same thing: Emmeline was passed out on my sofa.

"We should go back for her..." I said although I was still tentatively walking forwards.

"We really should..." Remus replied.

"But will we?..." I said giving him a mischievous grin. Remus looked very tempted for a second before he shook his head.

"We can't leave an unconscious girl on your sofa, Dorcas, plus she's a bit unstable. Are you really to willing to risk your flat getting trashed by her?" Remus asked. I looked down the stairs, thinking of how every second Sirius was getting closer to Marlene with that dumb blonde wig that was meant to look like me.

"Okay, you go look after Emmeline... I'll go and stop Sirius," I began to dash away but Remus grabbed my arm and I looked back, "What? Are you scared of Emmeline?..."

"... no..." Remus said unconvincingly but his face said otherwise.

"But Remus, Sirius is getting away!" I replied. Remus looked between me and my flat before finally shaking his head.

"Fine... fine," Remus looked very hesitant, "Okay, I'll call James, Lily and Peter to help me take her on. You go and find Marlene and Sirius. Dorcas, do what you need to do."

"Remus, I don't want to leave you," I replied. Remus straightened his collar, looking up boldly. I looked after him as he began to slowly walk up the stairs, "Remus, you're the bravest man I know."

"I'm not really, I'm probably going to spend 90% of the time hiding in your room until I'm rescued by the others," He looked up again, "But if you want to believe that, then I'm cool with that too. Go Dorcas Meadowes, make Morcas happen."

"Thank you, Remus," I said before dashing down the stairs. I gave one last look back but Remus had vanished, sacrificed himself to the terrifying Emmeline. I put my hand on my heart for a second before running away and running out the door. I had a mission.

I began to walk briskly down the street with a newfound purpose. I suddenly realised that my brisk walk was all in vain, I literally had no idea where I was going. It was a weekend so the café would be closed. Then it occurred to me that maybe Sirius didn't know where he was going either, he probably had no idea where Marlene was too. If he hadn't told me where he was going, there was only one other person who would know. James.

I grabbed my phone out of my pocket, urgently dialling his number. Time was of the essence but luckily for me, he picked up on the first ring.

"Hey Dorcas, what's - "

"James, I need help. Did Sirius say where he was going?"

"Wait, Sirius, is gone?" He asked, "What like another holiday thing? I hope not, he kept preaching about how the sun livens up your life for weeks. I love the guy but when he gets an idea in his head - "

"No, no, not like that," I said quickly, "Something happened, the plan went weird, he hired someone to be me but she was crazy and was trying to steal my identity and then Sirius came and knocked her up - "

"Up?"

"I meant out," I began to walk faster, "James, I'm freaking out. Sirius put on the blonde wig and went to go and 'fix' it but it's just going to go badly and I need to find him - "

"James, what's happening?" I heard Lily say in the background, "James, put it on speaker, I'm driving."

"Oh right, of course," James replied, "Okay, Dorcas, you're on speaker now, everything you say is being broadcasted to Lily."

"Maybe she'll actually be able to help me," I muttered, "Lily, do you know where Sirius would go to find Marlene? That doesn't make any sense, he knows no more than I do..."

"Actually, Dorcas, he probably does," James said, "Are you forgetting the whole Remus as you incident? Sirius is a lot better at tracking than you think..."

"Well, then I need to know where Marlene is," I replied quickly, "Lily, you work with her? Where would she be?"

"I don't know - "

"Lily, turn left here!"

"James, what did you think I was doing?" Lily replied, "Anyway, I don't know Marlene too well but I think she goes for a run at the weekends sometimes, actually she does have an art class sometimes that she mentioned once... oh actually 90% of the time she just eats a lot of pizza - "

"I don't get it, why would you eat pizza when you have Oreos?" James cut in, "You know what, I should try and turn her, I can be very convincing when I want to be."

"James, that sounds so weird out of context," I said, holding the phone to my ear closely as if other people had heard him say that.

"Plus, if she doesn't eat Oreos, then it's all the more for you though." Lily reminded him.

"Ohhhh," I could hear James smiling even over the phone, his voice seemed to change when he was happy, "I never thought about it that way. Damn, all these people I've converted to the Oreo's side, were actually hurting me. Right, that's it, I'm never going to try and get people to like Oreos again."

"No, James, don't do that! It's sweet. Tell you what if all the Oreos disappear because you gave them away, I'll make a whole batch for you," Lily said, "Anyway, Dorcas the best bet is to go to her place, I reckon. She usually goes on and on about her art class to me and Remus if she's going and she mentioned that she was having a 'casual' weekend so you could probably go there."

"Okay, okay, slight problem though," I said quickly, "I don't know where she is, I'm not quite as good as stalking as Sirius is... oh God, I'm never going to find Sirius in time and he's going to scare Marlene away and I'm going to be a lonely woman with cats - "

"Dorcas, calm down, okay?" Lily said quickly," Marlene is hard to scare off... this is quite hard to deal with this but she might be okay with it, she even might be into it. Anyway, I've been around to her house a few times, look I'm coming around to yours anyway, Remus called us to come around. You did know about that right?"

"Yeah, it's cool," I said, "That would be amazing though, I'll see you - "

I crossed the road and stopped dead as a car stopped right in front of me, a screeching of brakes appearing in real life and on my phone. For a second, I saw my life flash before my eyes and wondered if I could sue the driver to stop being so broke but quickly put two and two together that the people in the car were none other than Lily and James.

Lily stuck her head out the window, her long red hair dangling down the side so that I was a little concerned it would get stuck in the door handle.

"Dorcas, look where you're going!" She called, grinning. James's stuck his head out the other window. The way that I could hear their voices over the phone and in real life was weirdly eerie.

"Sorry, I was talking to a pair of idiots on the phone," I called back.

"Are you getting in or not?" James asked. I dashed around, opening the car and slipping in the back. Sitting in the back seat, I felt like James and Lily were my parents driving me off to a friend's house. I shook my head, trying to get rid of the weird image.

"What about Remus?" I asked.

"Marlene's flat isn't too far," Lily replied, "He can manage until then, you put up with that girl, Remus is strong, he can do the same. Anyway, I kind of want to catch a glimpse of Sirius in drag."

"Seen it before," James said, "Year seven. He weirdly pulls it off but it's kind of disappointing."

"Wait, that was Sirius?" I laughed slightly, "The guy who got cast as Mary in the nativity over all the girls?"

"Yep, who else would it be?"

"I hated that kid," I said with a small smile, "I wanted to be Mary and instead I was the manger. There were two of us and we had to hold up this silly baby doll."

"I was a sheep," James said wistfully, "Good times."

After a ten minute drive, we pulled up to a large white building, which I assumed was Marlene's flat.

"Damn, Marlene's building is nice," James said before suddenly pointing, "Oh God, there's Sirius! He even looks like you!"

"What? Shut up, James!" I snapped, "Oh God, I am so nervous."

"Don't be," Lily said, "You're the real Dorcas, just remember that."

"Okay," I looked towards Sirius pretending to be me as he walked up to a small box which I assumed was the intercom, "I'm going in."
