Part 14
Mahinder: Okay Samdhanji, Shakuntala and I, want to take your leave now. (Folds his hands) We need to catch our return train which would leave in two hours.
Sidharth: What is this Sasurji? Aren't y'all tired of the long journey? Please stay with us today and may be you can travel some other day.
Mahinder: No Jamaai babu, we can't even drink water at our daughter's house, forget staying alone.
Sidharth: I respect your views but it will be tiring for you both.
Mahinder: No problem jamaai babu. We will not get tired as we will get a privileged travel option due to my job in Railway.
They take leave and bless their daughter before leaving her at her husband's house. This time Shehnaaz's eyes were moist as she knew the seperation anxiety.
She sobbed in her room alone. Sidharth went near her and caressed her head. He sat infront of her and wiped her tears.
Sidharth: Are you sad because they went or because you have to put up with me from now on?
Shehnaaz looked at him and a small smile formed up on her crying face. He smiles and holds her hands in his hands.
Sidharth: Finally we are together Sana. I told you don't fear about Maa. She will accept our relationship. Are you happy?
Sana nods with a blush, putting her head down. He lifts her head up by pushing her chin. Her cheeks were red due to shyness and her eyes were still looking down. She bit her lips to control her emotions. He plants a featherlight kisses on her eyes. She was turning more and more red.
Sidharth: Don't you ever cry again. I love your eyes when they shine out of happiness. The smile which reflects in your eyes is mesmerising.
She slowly lifts her eyelids to look into his eyes.
Sidharth: Beautiful!! (He says as he looked into her eyes)
Sana hides her face into his chest out of shyness. He smiles and embraces her.
Sidharth: I fall in love with myself when I see my reflection in your eyes. Your eyes are magical.
Sana: Sir, I am loving your Literature lessons on my eyes. (Smiles)
Sidharth: Hmm.. (smiles) That reminds me Sana, we need to leave in another three hour to go to the city. We need to resume our tomorrow's classes.
Their faces showed disappointment as it meant that they were going to be again away from each other as a husband and wife. Sana would have to stay at her sister's house and Sidharth at his hostel until he finds a house for them to stay together. The grip of their hands now becomes more firmer as if they didn't wanted the other to let go out of their embrace.
Sidharth: It's difficult to find a house on rent in the city but don't lose hope. We will find ways to be together. We can't tell anyone in college about our relationship because over there you are my student. You are very good in literature but others would think I am favouring my wife.
Sana: Hmmm. Can we spend some time with Maaji before we leave?
Sidharth: Yes dear! But Amma is not at home, she went meet the person who got me the other girl's proposal. She has to cancel the Sunday's visit right?
Sana: Oh! Okay
Sidharth: That means it's just two of us at home. (He whispered in her ears)
Sana: Huh? (She shivered)
Sidharth: Are you scared of me?
Sana: (Looks at him in surprise) No!
Sidharth: But I feel scared to approach you. What if you complain to Maa?
Sana: (giggles) I am not the same old Sana.
Sidharth: Is it? What's different in this Sana?
Sana: Don't you find any difference?
Sidharth: Hmm.. yes, I do. This Sana is too shy. I loved that Sana who would look into my eyes without any hesitation.
Sana: But she had no knowledge about love and husband.
Sidharth: How does that stop one from being feisty?
Sana: I am just shy. If I don't feel shy, you might take me as 'badhchalan' {characterless, badh-Bad Chalan-behaviour}.
**Author's note: A straight forward girl was thought as a shameless girl in that era. The men always took the lead. In most of the villages, men would first watch movies in theatre (screens in tents) and approve if it was suitable to be watched by females of the family. Most of the time romantic scenes were often deemed as censored by the men and women weren't allowed to watch them because they thought that will encourage shamelessness in society. It was more like 18+ and Only For Men. Intimacy wasn't discussed so freely.
Sidharth: I won't judge you dear. You are my wife. I want my old feisty Sana back who would take the lead. You can be anything and everything infront of me without being scared of me judging your character.
She lifted her head, looked into his eyes and smiled. There was a blush but she didn't shy away from looking into his eyes.
Sidharth: I love you Sana.
Sana: I love you too.
She cupped his face and kissed his lips. After a brief moment, Sidharth looked at her and smiled.
Sidharth: You made my mouth jhoota! (Fake comlpaining tone)
She giggled and hugged him.
Sana: Do you remember, when I first came with you to this city, you promised me to take me to watch a movie?
Sidharth: Yes, I do.
Sana: I didn't watch any movie until now. My sister and brother-in-law often invited me to go to a movie theatre with them but I never went. It reminded me of you and my heart never wanted to watch it without you.
Sidharth: I have seen movies earlier but since the time I promised you, even I didn't go to watch any movie. Looks like now we have all the time to go for one as an escape and enjoy some lone time while we stay separately.
Sana: I don't want to stay away from you. I have spent enough time away for these 5 years.
Sidharth: Neither do I, Sana. But it's inevitable. There is another advantage of it as well. (He cups her face) You have to finish your studies as well right? I fear I can't resist myself from getting intimate with you. It might ruin your studies. We will wait until you finish your bachelor's degree to end our bachelor life and enter our married life.
She was very happy to see him being considerate about her studies. She kissed him all over his face out of excitement. He grinned from ear to ear.
Sidharth: Are you testing my controlling power?
Sana: (giggled) No!

They take leave from Sulochna and go back to the city. She took a horse cart to her Sister's place and he took a horse cart to his hostel. They were to maintain secrecy so she had insisted him that she would travel alone to avoid people character shaming them near her place of residence.
They both were happy to be together in a relationship even though they stayed far. They both waited for the next day to meet at their college.
The next day, Sana took an extra effort to dress up. She chose a light yellow saree since it was his favourite colour clubbed it with a matching blouse which had a puffed sleeves. She made sure the saree was pinned properly in all the places which enhanced her figure and curves at right places. She tied the bun multiple times until she felt satisfied. Decorated it with her favourite Son Champa flowers. Applied a kajal to her eyes making a perfect long curve stroke on the sides. She then put a perfect round maroon colour kumkum on her forehead and then applied a wax over it to give it a perfect shine. She wore a matching yellow bangles in both her hands and trinkling anklets in her legs. Her ears had a big earrings.
(Those perfect hair bun was really tidious job, not like present day hairstyles where you just brush and leave your hair open. 😉 Picture nahi de rahi kyuki waise bhi black and white hogi. To sab khudh se imagine karlo 😜😂)
Sunaina watched her standing near the door.
Sunaina: So you've decided to kill my jiju with your killer looks today?
Sana: (looks at her and giggles) He can't do anything else apart from looking.
Sunaina: Mmmmm... You've become naughty just in three days of his company. Jiju seems to be quiet romantic.
Sana: (chuckles remembering him) Yes. Thanks to you since you eloped with my Jiju leaving your Jiju to me.
They both laugh.
Sana: Okay, I need to go. (Looks at herself in mirror) How do I look?
Sunaina: I think I will leave it to your lecturer babu who is a gold medalist in literature. I'm sure he will have a long poem to describe your beauty.
Sana: (smiles with a blush) Hush.. Bye!!

She reaches the college. Her eyes were searching for him. However, she couldn't find him before the bell rang for the first lecture. She went to her class disheartened. After 3 back to back lectures, it was finally his lecture.
He enters the class and the whole class greets him. He greets them back. He steals a glance at her and she smiles. He couldn't smile back.
Sidharth: So, Rehman! Were you able to write something for your love? (Smilingly)
Rehman: It's in my mind sir, just need to put it on the paper.
Sidharth: (laughs) Okay! When you write one, the whole class would love to hear it. Anyone else tried writing in my absence?
There was one hand raised up in the air.
Sidharth: Yes, Gulshan.
Gulshan: Sir, I didn't write anything all these days but I wrote one since morning for someone who is looking enchantingly beautiful today.
Sidharth: Sure, go ahead!
Gulshan recites the poem.
Peeli Saree mein sarso ka saag lagti ho,
Raagon mein tum malhaar raag lagti ho,
Itne din kaha thi tum meri jaaneman,
Aaj saavan mein jalaane wali aag lagti ho!
Everyone clapped while Sidharth looked around the whole class and found that only Shehnaaz was dressed in Yellow Saree. His anger rised as he knew that the poem was directed towards Shehnaaz.
He glared at Gulshan who was smirking and ogling at Shehnaaz. Shehnaaz's face showed discomfort and humiliation.
Sidharth: Quiet! (Yelled) You call this poem? This is rather an indecent and derogatory remark than a poem. I condemn this kind of indecency in my class. Gulshan, please leave my class right now.
Gulshan: Sir..
Sidharth: I said leave my class before I escalate this to the principal.
Gulshan was raged. He stomped out of the class.
Sidharth: Read chapter 13 and write down your inference.
The class quietly looked at their respective books getting busy in reading and writing. Shehnaaz's eyes were red as she held back her tears. He didn't know what to do to help her and console her. Finally, she got up and seeked his permission to go out of the class. He granted the permission and she ran to the girl's washroom.
He was restless as he waited for her to return to the class. The bell rang and everyone moved out of class one by one as it was recess time. He didn't know what to do. He strolled to and fro in the class as her belongings were still in the class. He stood near the door and sighed in relief when he saw her returning to the class.
Her eyes were red, she had taken off the flower from her hair and the bun was now turned into a simple plait, the earrings, anklets were now gone. Kajal in her eyes was also missing. He was heartbroken to see her in that condition.
Sidharth: Sana.. (he said with a shakey voice)
She looked around to confirm that no one was there. She then hugged him letting out a cry. He was disheartened to see her cry. He patted her back to calm her down.
Sana: I shouldn't have done so much makeup. I attracted unnecessary attention. I swear, I put all the effort for your eyes only.
Sidharth: What's your fault Sana? It's your wish and your right to dress the way you want. That rascal Gulshan is at fault. He should be ashamed, guilty, punished and be repenting his act. I am going to teach him a lesson of his life for humiliating my wife.
Sana: No. Please don't do such things. You aren't aware that he is son of the Mayor of this town. We don't want unnecessary problem in our lives. You threw him out of the class, that should be enough. Besides he thinks I am unmarried.
Sidharth: So you mean unmarried girls are freely available for him to humiliate and pass derogatory remark?
Sana: No. I am sorry.
Sidharth: Okay, go and eat something before the recess gets over.
Sana: I.. I got a tiffin box for you as well. (She gives him a box)
Sidharth: Wow! I am going to have it in the staffroom. I wish I could have had it with you.
Sana: I understand.
Sidharth: You were looking beautiful and you are still looking beautiful sweetheart. Remember the best piece of jewellery you possess is your smile, attitude and confidence. Never take them off.
She gave him the brightest smile. He pecked her forehead and went out of the class.
