Second Letter-Waiting

Anneliese's eyes blinked open, and the first thing she did was freshen up and check their mailbox. "Nothing," she murmured. "Did he not receive it, or is he hesitant to reply? I did put Mormont instead of Raymond, but he should know it's his daughter, Anneliese. He knows my name," she mumbled to herself.

"Anneliese!" her mother called. "What are you doing outside with your pajamas on?" she asked.

"Nothing! I'm coming back in right now!" she answered. She went back inside and sat down at the table.

"Eat your breakfast before doing anything else." Her mom set a plate of pancakes in front of her topped with whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate syrup.

"Wow! I get to eat mother's famous pancakes today!" Anneliese exclaimed happily. She stabbed her fork into the fluffy pancake and put it into her mouth. "Mmm! Oh my God! This batch is so good!" She shook her head slowly and ate the rest, enjoying the softness.

"I have to go out today," her mother stated.

"Where you going?" she asks.

"To your father's office. He asked for me to help him with a project," her mother replied.

"So you won't be back for a while?"

"No, why? You want to throw a party while we're gone?" Her mother raised her eyebrow.

"Absolutely not. I just want to watch Netflix by myself." She gave a cheeky smile and stuck out her tongue.

"Go! Go! Watch till your eyes burn!" Her mother sighed, and Anneliese giggled.

"Go now. Father must be waiting," she stated, and her mother left. After a while, Anneliese decided to write another letter to her father in case he didn't receive the first one. This one, she would deliver to his apartment complex by herself.

Dear Nathaniel Raymond,

I don't know if you have received my first letter to you. I don't care if you're ignoring me, or if you're still a coward. I will write to you until you tell me the reason why you left my mother and me. You will tell me the truth! You owe me that much for leaving without an explanation. It had been so hard on mother and me the first three years you left us. She worked day and night until her bones were weak and her body was sore just to provide for the both of us. You have no idea what she had to go through! I hope you reflect on your actions. If you're thinking about coming to find me, don't bother. Mother doesn't know I'm doing this, and I don't want her to get hurt again. If you have something to say, write back. I'm expecting a letter from you.

Your ex-daughter,
Anneliese Mormont

Anneliese sealed the letter in an envelope and put it in her bag then started her car and drove to his apartment complex. She entered the building and gave the letter to the landlady. She told her to give it to him immediately if she saw him.

Later that day, Anneliese was eating dinner with her parents when her mother asked her a question. "Anneliese, I saw that you dug up some envelopes and letter paper recently. Have you gotten a pen pal or something?"

"No, mother. I'm just writing some letters to my future self," Anneliese answered.

"You do those kinds of things?" her stepfather asked.

"Yeah. Do you find it weird?" Anneliese asked him.

"No, I just think those are for people who are aiming to improve themselves, so they write letters to their future selves to see how they changed." He smiled, and she smiled back awkwardly. "To put it in another way. I'm saying you have nothing to change, Anneliese."

"Thank you, but it's just something I wanted to do." She shrugged.

"Well, show me them sometime?" her mother asked.

"Sure." She smiled. "I'm done eating. I'm going to go to my room and finish some homework," Anneliese stated.

"Put your dish in the sink first," her mother remarked.

"Oops! Sorry." She quickly placed her dish in the sink and rushed to her room.

"She's acting quite odd these days," her stepfather stated.

"You're right. I wonder what's up," her mother remarked. Anneliese lay on her bed, hoping her father would reply soon.
