Chapter Four.
Neither Lillian nor Ryan could get out of the car. They were in the parking lot of their local drug store and it was dark out now. One of them had to go in the store and get one but they were both terrified.
"Ryan, will you please just go in and get it?" Lillian begged. "I can't go in there, my mom goes in there a lot."
"You think mine doesn't?" Ryan questioned. "This can't be happening. I bet you're not pregnant."
"Then you explain why my stomach's suddenly getting hard." she hissed. She was surprised at her tone but got over it. She was in panic mood. This is serious and he just needs to go in, grab one, pay for it, and she can take it alone. "Because I sure haven't eaten since this morning and I'm hungry as heck."
"You go in, you're the one that wants it." he said.
She glared at him, pressing her lips angrily together. "We'll both go in, better?"
"Someone we know might be there." he said, looking at the store.
She snorted, "You're a jerk. Just give me the money and I'll go in." she hissed, holding her hand out.
He leaned forward and reached in his back pocket. He opened his wallet and handed her ten dollars. She angrily got out, not wanting to be in there with him anymore. She couldn't believe this was happening.
She walked into the store and the old lady behind the counter smiled at her. Lillian gave her a forced smile before walking around for the pregnancy tests. She'd never had to look for any so she didn't know where they were.
After a few minutes, she found some near the back by the pharmacy. She looked around for a good affordable one. She grabbed a Clear Blue one and looked down at the box. Her throat filled up with a lump and she had a hard time swallowing it.
She was scared to go up to the cashier now because she didn't want to get the disappointed look teenagers get. But she'll have to. She forced herself to turn and she walked back up to the counter.
Her cheeks blushed up when she placed the box onto of the counter. The look of disappointment crossed the lady's face, but she quickly changed it, "Who's the lucky man?"
She wasn't sure if she should tell her who's it could be because apparently Ryan was much too worried about anyone knowing. Didn't he think that she's worried about people finding out too?
"His name is Ryan." she said.
She nodded, "Your first?"
She nodded, "Yeah," she said like she had everything planned out. But really, if this is a positive, she isn't sure what to do.
The lady rang up the Clear Blue and Lillian gave her the ten dollars for it. She told her not to worry about putting it in a paper bag because she's going to take it here. The lady gave her back the change and Lillian went over to the bathroom that was in the store.
She read the back of the box and read that she just had to pee on it and wait three minutes for the negative or plus sign. She unbuttoned her pants and sat down on the toilet. She took the blue cap off and peed on it.
She felt awkward doing the whole thing, but she thanked God when it was over. She put the cap back on and put the stick back into the box. She pulled her pants up and washed her hands.
She left the bathroom and raised her hand to the lady in goodbye as she left. She walked back over to the car and got in.
"So?" Ryan questioned.
"Two minutes." she said, looking out the window, taking deep breaths. When she was nervous, she started to breathe hard and feel like she was having a panic attack. "Can we please turn on the radio?" she asked, needed something to distract her and the quiet wasn't helping
He turned on the radio and they sat there in their own awkward silence and it was way past two minutes before she finally decided to open the box.
Ryan turned down the radio and Lillian took the stick out. She saw a '+' sign and she felt like she stopped breathing.
"Well?" Ryan questioned.
"What do you think it is? A boy or girl?" she asked.
"Damnit.", he said, hitting the steering wheel and slumped back in his seat. "You can't be serious. Jeanette's not going to like this."
"Jeanette?" Lillian hissed. "I'm pregnant and you're worried about Jeanette? I'm the one that's going to be carrying this child and disappointing my parents. My parents and I had my whole life planned out and that stupid party changed everything!" she hissed, throwing the sticking behind them she couldn't take seeing it anymore. "God, why'd this happen? What am I going to do? Oh god, I'm going to be a teen mom!" she said in horror to herself. "Why is this happening to me? I'm a straight A student, I made honor roll for that last five years! I'm respectful and a good daughter-",
"Lil, relax!" Ryan said and her head snapped to him, remembering where she was. "Look, this is happening to me too. I'm scared too."
She snorted, "Don't talk to me like you're going to be the one dealing with this. I'm the one that's going to get huge and mocked at school. You're going to deny him or her cause you don't want Jeanette finding out. You're going to leave me alone with this child-"
"Lil, stop it!" he yelled. "Yes, I don't want Jeanette finding out but whether I like it or not, this is my child to. Now, there's a simple way we can handle this. Just a suggestion, but there's this clinic in the next town over-"
"You have got to be joking." she said in disgust. "I'm a Christian, Ryan I don't believe in abortions. You know how long that would be on my chest if I do that? I can't kill something that didn't even do anything wrong-"
"Okay, never mind then," he said, clearly annoyed at how she was responding. He pressed his arm against the driver's door and leaned his head down on his fist. "We...we'll figure something out."
Mad that he's not taking all this seriously, she grabbed her back pack and put her hand on the handle to open the door, "You know what, Ryan, forget you. I'll get through this by myself. Let the whole school call me a slut and whore like Tamara Rogen, so don't be afraid of Jeanette finding out. I don't need you." she said, opening the door and got out.
"Lil, come on!" Ryan said. "Get back in and I'll take you home."
"No, I can do it by myself." she hissed. "I don't need you. Like our stupid mistaken one night stand, it never happened! I'm not pregnant with your child and we never had sex-"
"Lillian, stop making me feel guilty!" he yelled to her surprise, making her jump. "This is my way of coping, so stop yelling at me like I'm some asshole! I never said I'm going to leave you alone with this to deal with. All I did was suggest the clinic, you just overreacted. You're overreacting about everything I say, not even let me get a word in this!"
Lillian glared at him but knew what he was saying is true. She was accusing of him of many things, but she can't help it! She just found out she's pregnant!
She got back in the car and threw her bag down, crossing her bag over her chest stubbornly.
Ryan sighed heavily, "Look, I didn't mean to yell, but you weren't listening. If you hide your stomach for at least a little longer until I can find a way to tell Jeanette, I would like that. But I have to know what your plan is to do with it."
She shrugged, "I don't know. I don't know if I'm ready to be a mother. I'm only sixteen but I don't know if I can handle my child being raised by someone else." she honestly said. "I can't take care of a baby, though. Giving it to a couple that really wants a child though sounds like a good thing to do." She brought her nails up to her mouth and started chewing on them. "I could really use a chocolate shake." she mumbled to herself randomly. She meant to just think it, but it came out.
Ryan drove out and went to the local diner to get her one.

Ryan pulled up to Lillian's house and unbuckled her seat belt. "Thanks," she said tiredly. She picked up her backpack and opened the door and got out.
"Hold up," Ryan said and she leaned down to look at him. "I know many guys say this, but I'm going to be there for it if you do decide to keep it. Whether I like it or not, it is my child, too."
Not sure what to say, she just nodded and closed the door. She walked up to her house and went in. Her parents and sister were in the living room watching TV.
"Hey honey, where were you all this time?" her mom asked her.
"With Jeanette, we grabbed something to eat at Tony's." she said, holding the cup of her milkshake up. "But hey, I have work to do." she said and they both nodded.
Lillian went upstairs to her room and turned on her bedroom lamp. She got out of her clothes and changed into some comfortable pajamas. She raised her shirt up to show her belly. She placed one hand on her small bump and rubbed it.
She sighed heavily and went over to her bed, lying down. Usually right now, she would start homework but she was really tired. She placed her hands over her stomach. It's weird how she didn't feel pregnant. Like nothing was even there. She remembered what she learned in Health class. She should have noticed the signs.
Sore breasts; bloating; peeing a thousand times a day; cravings; always feeling tired. Her periods were always light, which explained why she didn't question anything but she should have when it only lasted four days.
After an hour later, she did her homework and took a shower. She came back out and checked her phone, seeing that she got a text from Jeanette.
' Hey babe, do you know the answer to tonight's science homework?????? I can't figure it out! Helppppp!'
Lillian sighed, telling her. She couldn't help but feel Jeanette using her now every day to help with her school work. She hoped she was just imaging things.
~
Lillian woke up in the middle of the night with a sudden rising feeling of bile in her throat again. "Oh god," she said, getting up with her hand over her mouth and ran out of her room and into the bathroom on time when the chocolate milkshake came back up.
As she threw up, she heard someone come in and turn on the lights, "Sweet heart?" her mom questioned.
A moment later, Lillian stopped throwing up and she wiped across her mouth, flushing the toilet. She walked over to the sink and brushed her teeth.
"Are you okay, sweet heart?" her mom asked behind her.
Lillian nodded and spit out the tooth paste, "Yeah, food poisoning."
"Aw honey, that sucks." her mom said. She put her hand on her forehead, "You do feel a little warm. Do you want to stay home today?"
Lillian shook her head, needing to go to school because it'll be the only thing that'll it get her head off of things for a minute. She went back to her room and tried to go back to bed, it but it was an hour later before she could.
